Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

After surgery, felt good. 2 1/2 week check, good. Next day, heavy blood flow, which stopped within 20 min. 2 days later heavy blood flow again, went to hospital, said may be a hematoma. Blood flow stopped again. Next day bleeding again. Stopped again. Tried contacting Dr., but not available. 2 days later heavy blood flow, would not stop. Had to call ambulance, as we are in rural area, & I panicked! 5 hours of heavy blood flow, Dr. finally came in, put packing in. Said was due to infection, loosening up stitches, artery bleed. By this time, required transfusion, and another hospital stay, antibiotics, etc. Went home, ended antibiotics Fri. bleeding again Mon. @ noon, but not as much. Went back to hospital. re-admitted, more infection, another 5 days in hospital, more antibiotics. Please, has anyone else had this happen? I am panicking everytime I move that this is going to happen again. Am now over 6 wks. postop. Should be getting back to normal! Going back to Dr. Mon. aft. Please help!!!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Wow, I have absolutely no advice, but wanted to say I'm really sorry you're having such a hard time.

I had to be readmitted for pneumonia, and that was just once, but I know how disappointing it can be to have to go back into the hospital when all you want to do is just have a normal recovery and get better.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

You poor thing, how frightening that must have been. I know there are ladies around who have had similar things happen, although they are not the norm.
How long has it been since you had bleeding? I think it's wise for you to take it easy and to allow your body to heal without much strain. This complication is bound to set you back some in your recovery time, but hopefully not too much.
Listen to your body and just take things slowly. I can understand your concern but you need to be up walking, at least to help get your strength back. Don't push beyond the limits your body gives you. When you feel tired or start hurting be sure to stop. I hope you'll find this is healing well now and you're beyond having to worry that it will happen again. Keep us posted on your progress.

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Panicking was definitely an appropriate response to heavy bleeding. You were in no way over-reacting. And it's normal to feel a little skittish after two bad scares. Hopefully your doctor can reassure you that you're in the clear at Monday's appointment. Our kind hostess, Preciouspearl has very sane and balanced advice. Take care of yourself!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Update! It has been 9 weeks since surgery, 4 weeks since last heavy bleeding! I feel great now! Was to Dr. today. Says healing well, just slowly. Still very tired, and swollen belly, but that's just time I guess. Such a relief that the bleeding has stopped! This website is great, to let you know you are not alone, and share experiences and advice. Thanks everyone!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Hi Daisyd1914
Thanks for posting update and giving others with similar symptoms reassurance! I am playing waiting game after very heavy (and yes, terrifying) bleed last week that I am "hoping" was infection that should be now cleared up. I had cervix left in and am terrified it is cyclical as i did not feel I had an infection at time of bleed - in fact feel worse on the antibiotics. My bleeding has stopped, but I am paranoid it may suddenly start again. Really hoping my outcome is as good as yours is and I am so glad for you. Keep healing well!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Hi Megapixel
I had no idea I had infection either, until all the bleeding. No fever, feeling pretty good. The antibiotics were horrible, dizzy, weak, everything out of whack, couldn't even read as my eyes were blurry. And BAD headaches! I ended up on 2 courses of antibiotics, and it took a few days for them to get out of my system, but each day is better. Still tired, but the panic is subsiding. Are you seeing the Dr. right after the antibiotics are finished? My Dr. did more blood work to be sure infection was gone the 2nd time. (Checking white blood count, in particular). It is terrifying when you go through this, and I think the worst is what your mind does to you. It's the "what if..." that goes on in your head. Any heavy bleeding I would definitely go see the Dr. I had my cervix , uterus and one ovary removed. I feel great now. When you are going through all this, you think you're never going to feel better! But you do, some just take a little longer than others, I guess. I really hope you are feeling better soon!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Hey daisyd! I did not read this until just now, as I am now 11 weeks post op & don't read every day, but I had major heavy bleeding 2 weeks after hyst. But, I bled for up to an hour heavily, then it would stop (after ER visit) and start again 4-5 days later. This went on for 2 weeks, and after 3 trips to ER in that time (once by ambulance b/c I passed out before getting to the car), another gyn - the one on call that night- took me back into surgery for a cuff repair. Apparently, my cuff was not healing well (or wasn't stitched up properly the first time, as is my uneducated guess) and he had to re-stitch it. I also had to have a blood transfusion, b/c my hemoglobin was down to 5.5 post surgery #2 (normal is 12-14). I'm now 6+ weeks past the second surgery & feel great. I'm still wearing pads, mostly b/c I'm paranoid, but also due to lingering minor discharge due to stitches still dissolving, but I FINALLY have the all-clear for normal activities! (Yes...even that...DH has been very patient waiting 11 weeks, but it's better than ever now).

Reading through your initial email I wanted to tell you to have them check to make sure your cuff was OK, but saw that it was three weeks ago, so I'm glad it finally stopped. All the gyns I talked to about my situation said they had only seen someone have to go back in for cuff repair once or twice in their careers, so I'm now in that rare statistic!

Best wishes & hope all remains status quo now!

Heavy bleeding 2 1/2 weeks post-op!!!

Hi wbrmemories! Thanks for the info. I hope this is all past, for both of us, but as you say, paranoid doesn't even begin to explain it! Sounds like you have had a terrible time of it too. Hopefully that is the end of it for you and you continue to heal well! My DH has been soooo supportive through all this ( and yes, patient! 9 1/2 weeks so far! Haven't ventured that far yet!) All the best!
