Teacher30- I feel that way at least twice a month (pack it up) and I have been teaching for 10 years. Once you find the ONE that will share that you made a difference, write the moment down, take a picture of you two and keep it close by. I now have 48 pictures to keep me going.

Ellen-good to hear from you. I want a full report on what the Enquirer has to say - so I know that you have been resting. If there are many typos - better yet! That way we know you have been drinking as well

March 17-Yea, this site is great to vent to! We all feel that everyone was accomodating the first week and then...are you still in pain? My BF is great, but I can't even call my sisters etc. to complain. That's Ok - I have the "hyster-sisters" to talk with.

For the first time, I felt very sad that I don't have the option of having kids. Mind you, I am 38 and have 17,11 year old girls. Not that I wanted to start over, but the finalization hit me today. I felt a sharp pain when I saw a lady smooching her baby at Target. Have you ladies experienced the feeling yet?

Holy Cow am I glad to have found you ladies! I had a TAH (kept right ovary) on March 5, 2007 am I thought I'd be doing much better than I am today. Very frustrated, still needing pain meds by days end because I am allergic to motrin and regular tylenol doesn't seem to do anything. This TAH was my 4th surgery since November of 2006 when I went in for a simple ablation for heavy periods. Still not sure what went "wrong", but I ended up having an emergency d & c 10 days later, followed by laproscopic removal of endometrial tissue and old scar tissue two days after Christmas. This road has NOT been fun! Sometimes I wish I could just trade it all back and deal with my monster periods again. At least then I could leave the house (even though not for more than 30 minutes, with "elephant pad" and superplus tampon AND a towel on the carseat). Yikes! As I really, truly think about it, I guess I don't want to take it back! But I DO wish I could start to feel better! It really helped me today when I read the posts about the painful sensations between incision and belly button. I am experiencing exactly that, as well as pulling sensations when I try to walk a few blocks. Very frustrating! And by now I have noticed that well-meaning neighbors and friends are somewhat suprised that I am not "back to my old self". After all, it's been 4 weeks today! The posts from you ladies really gives me perspective on this recovery process. Obviously, this is a process that should be respected...otherwise it will just take looonger!!!

Thank you for your wonderful, honest, insightful, uplifting posts my HysterSisters!! Tomorrow will be a better day...and if it's not, then more rest is in order!

Angelika,
I'm glad you are finding things a little bit easier now. I hope things continue to improve for you.

Runplenty
I found the decision to have the hyster quite traumatic as I have no children. Once I came to accept that my life was complete in so many other ways, I was able to move on and now look forward to the new life of no pain. The turning point for me was to understand that having child at my late age was not a risk that I would would be prepared to take in any case. Today, I know that this was the correct decision for me, and am so thankful that my surgeon allowed me all the time in the world (6 months) to get to the point of moving on.
I'm sure that you can look forward to many exciting and new experiences to enjoy with your children as you too move forward.

I have a recollection that you are returning to work next week - me too. I feel quite ready now, and in fact, the things I am doing this week are more to catch up on what I've not been able to do so far. I've a great boss who works closely with me and has been in contact for a good chat a couple of times each week. I did start my private teaching last week, so that was enough to ease me in.
I hope all goes well for you as you plan your return.

I have used the gym this last week as a form of rehab. to gain back some strength and stamina. Mind you, I've not done too much and planned it with a personal trainer after the Drs OK to make sure we did the right thing - mainly cardio machines and arm strength whilst sitting - but it has helped me so much.

I go back to the surgeon tomorrow for my final check up after 18 months on the rocky road. So I'm looking at it as day 1 of the new way for me.

I wish you all continued improvement each day.

Hi everyone,

Amytune, I am in week 4 and yes I seem to be doing quite well even though I still get the slight pulling and taggin pains here and there. I think it has a lot to do with my fitness level before I went into surgery. I always go jogging 2 to 3 times a week and I have been very active stripping the wallpaper in 11 rooms and clearing all the items out from my partner's home and the garden workshop. Some very heavy stuff too. This went on from January to the day before my surgery and I think that held me in good stead physically.

I have noticed that drinking lots of water with fresh lime juice, taking vitamins and minerals, cod liver oil seems to help with the healing. Also, I find that the walks are really helping me too. I am now doing 40 miniutes walk a day but as soon as I get back home I lay and rest completely for half an hour and I do this with whatever I do, for example when I have done very light housework. I have never stretched or lifted anything as yet and I do not plan to until I see my consultant. Basically it is about listening to one's body and being gentle with it. To be honest I would not go back to work until the six week period is over and I would not drive the car until I have been for my first check up on 9th May (8 weeks since the op).

Whilst I admire all your determination to get back to work in only the 4th week of your recovery I would not be ready to do that just yet. Please be careful as it can delay your road to full recovery. This is the crucial stage when the stitiches are falling out and the tissues are mending.

I do worry about you all doing so much so soon...I feel I have bonded with you all through the hystersisters. Thanking you all so much for all your wonderful support...it touches me.

Take care and keep smiling.

Angelika

Bless you amytune....thanks for thanking of me. No, I don't have an incision along the tummy area. I had a Laprascopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy which was done via the vagina.

Yes, I do get the odd twinch of pain but I find it improves when I have been for a good walk. I do still get the pulling sensation down below but very little pain now. I was told that with this kind of operation I would heal more quickly than those who have had it done via the the stomach area. Also, I did not have any children either.

Sounds as if you are doing well too. You are one week ahead of me. I will be thinking of you. Take care.

amytune, I do have the Ab cut, and it is hard like a ridge. I think it is the many sutures that we don't see. I read somewhere there are sometimes more than 150 stitches on the inside that we don't see.

Sorry I haven't checked in in a few days. It's good to see everyone is doing well. I am praying for the down days of you all and praising for the ones that are better.

I have been helping the dh-to-be with home renovations. I get all the easy stuff and "project supervisor" duties. Translation--bring him some sweet tea and tell him how good it all looks. I did paint a little and am so very tired now.

I return to teaching middle school next Tuesday. I am very nervous but do keep telling myself..."last six weeks!"

Blessings to you all.

I return to teaching elementary school next Thursday.(Same week)
My prayers are with you. I have some of the samer fears.
I am concerned becuase I just cant teach from my chair with Kindergarteners and First graders. I am afraid I might over do it.
On another note,
I just got a call from my regular gyno. I went to have my hormone levels checked. My Estrogen level was 20! (dangerously low, and that is with 1 mg. of estridiol a day!) He said my body isnt absorbing it enough and bumped me up to 2mg 2 times a day. I hope this helps my fatigue and hair loss.
I would STRONGLY suggest going to an endocrinologist to have your hormones tested NOW! It will really help. I am fortunate. My gyno is also an endocrinologist specialist, so that helps. He is at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton/plano border and had been a Godsend to me over the past 5 years!
