Hi Jetams,

I have had leg cramps since coming out of surgery too! From my hips down my legs...I have had all of the blood work and doppler tests on my legs to check for dvt. They were all clear.

My doctor said it may be potassium levels that have dropped. I will have to admit; I did the orange juice and bananas for a few days and it helped. Then, I ran out for a day or two and they came back. I began doing the treadmill for 10 min. on Monday at the gym. Wouldn't you know it....since yesterday (Tues.) the leg cramping came back. I alternated heat and ice with advil and they subsided. It is very annoying.

I would suggest you call your doctor just to be on the safe side! They are the professionals and not us. That is what they are paid for.

What type of surgery did you have? I had an lavh. I was told that my legs were put in stirrups like a frog (strapped in) and inverted on the table at a 45 degree angle (head to the ground direction). All of this for 2 hours and 15 minutes! So our legs with lavh are stretched for a long time in a strange position.

Good luck!

I have not responded very much to the web and discussions but I would like to thank everyone for the excellent information. It is one thing to hear the Dr. nurse say all of the feelings and "pinges of pain" and discharges are normal but is sure is comforting to know that it occurs with others. I have my 6 week visit next Tuesday and can't imagine not being released. I had a rough go in my third week with a very serious case of vertigo so my activitiy did not start unti my 4th week. I am walking twice a day but find I can't do the distance all at once yet. I teach visually impaired students and I know they are ready for me to come back as they are now starting to send me messages. So, once again thanks for your help even you did not know you were giving it to me.

hi March17
i did a lot of research before my surgery and i understand that our hormones can produce endometriosis; maybe that is why your doctor does not want you to go on hormone replacement just yet. the replacement hormones might "feed" any left over endo.
i had a radical TAH because my endo spread to the ligaments attached to my uterus and i was in a lot of pain, but i decided to keep my ovaries because i am 37. i hope when the endo does come back that it will not be as bad. only time will tell.
i hope you feel better soon. the more you can go outside, the better, i think. just sitting outside for 30 mins really helped. i know i am not going thru everything you are but if you can try to go and be with nature, it might help your recovery.
i love tea with honey too! there is a store called TEAVANA that has great and different teas. they have a website too.
all the best.

Me1113, thank you for the encouraging reply. Bless you and wishing you a wonderful recovery. I will try that tea site!!) But I am still so very confused. You still have your ovaries, even though you had extensive endo. like me. However, are there any sisters out there that had extensive endo., removed ovaries, but are awaiting to start harmone theraphy for 6 months for the endo. to die out per their dr.? Any info. would be great. Also, a great big "hello" to you Viteacher. Don't do too much. It sounds as though your job is demanding; remember, it takes a long time to totally heal. I'm glad that this site helped you out. I only found it several days ago. So I am new too! But it has certainly helped me so much. Please keep us posted as to your healing process, etc. we all love to hear and do care!!) And remember to let us know how you do next Tuesday at your 6th week check up. Lots of love and hugs to all of you sisters. God bless you all!!!!!!!

hello nomorewaiting,
I have been taking iron pills since the md thought maybe my iron was low. That has been a week now but no changes. I had a total vag hyst on 2-28-07. I don't know how they had me positioned. I didn't ask. I am sure that I was in stirrups that whole time too. Surgery included a cystocele, rectocele and an enterocele. So I can just about imagine how many stitches are inside my body!! My poor muscles are sore especially when I laugh and cough. I had to take a very hot bath last night because my legs hurt so bad. I don't think I will go back to work just yet. I see the md next week and my leave from work was approved for 12 wks (MLOA law). I am going to request a few more weeks just to prepare myself. I have not been behind the wheel for the whole recovery so that will bring on a different situation too. Thanks for telling me my experiences aren't so different from yours. It sure helps to hear that.
Take care
Jen

Good luck with your recovery, Jen. It sounds very similar the surgery. My legs have given me a fit today. I wore heels for the first time. Totally cramping up the legs! Someone told me to try tonic water with lime 3x a day. I'm going to give it a good ol' try over the next few days.

viteacher-Welcome! This site has been wonderful for me through my recovery. I'm glad it has been helping you too.
Bellatim-Great news from your MD appt. I still have a week more to go before the "all clear". I have never wanted to soak in a hot bath as much as these last
5 1/2 weeks when I knew I couldn't (per the MD)
angelika-enjoy your ride! I know it will feel good to be out and about. The first time I went out I kept saying "oh it's wonderful to see people and the world again"-my family thought I was a bit weird but a hystersister would understand.

jetams-thanks for the feedback on the discomfort-it always is reassuring when I'm not the only one experiencing something-then I know it's probably just normal stuff

I am on day 5 of the family trip-home on Friday
We're all getting a bit crabby with each other in these close quarters but I am focusing on what I am grateful for in my life-it's working (most of the time!)

Take care sisters

Ellen54,

How are you doing on the trip? I am at 5 weeks 2days from my lavh. My family wants to go to the beach next week for 5 days for spring break. It will be a 5 hour drive. I am just feeling like myself in the past 4 days. Did you do okay with the drive, etc.? I really think it would do some good for me to see something other than my house.

Your body is depleting its suppl y of estrogen, thats why you feel so bad. (insomnia, tired, achy, etc.)
The reason why your doctor doesnt want you to start estrogen is because estrogen is what "feeds" the endo!...it can make it spread.
I went through treatment before my TAH for my endo only. I got a LAP, got "scraped out" and my doctor put me on Lupron shots once a month. I could only do that or 6 months because depleting your body of estrogen causes bone loss, arthritis, etc.
Ask him if you cannot take estrogen for an alternative. All of your symptoms are a result of the hormones! (minus the pain.)

Last week (week 5) my Dr recommended that I have some salt baths. So I've been doing so, combining them with a spa. They are SOOOOO relaxing. It may be worth checking with your Dr about trying them too.

Angelika
Be careful with the driving when you decide to give it a try, and only go a short distance, and perhaps take someone with you. I tried at week 4 and found that all felt well behind the wheel for 1/2 hour, but when I got out at the other end, it was really hard to stand upright - I just felt so exhausted, and then had to think about how I was going to get back home. Also, I felt that my concentration was still affected a little, and I even seemed to be driving and thinking in 'slow motion'.
This was my first trip away from the house on my own, and I'm afraid it did not fill me with a lot of confidence. The next time was much easier though.
I think being able to get mobile again with the driving is key to gaining confidence and getting some independence back, but the message is the same as for most other things -when you're ready, give it a try, but little by little.

Welcome to all the new contributors and readers - progress well!
