Hello everyone...its been awhile. So much has been going on. It took 2 days of reading to catch up on everyone else.
Its now Friday...the end of my first week at work.TGIF I am a vocational rehabilitation counselor. the first two days I had to take a pain pill when I got home(I hadn't been taking any two weeks prior). On Wed. I had to sit through a two staff meeting in the afternoon so I took a pill before the meeting and felt much better that evening.
Yesterday I had my 6 week checkup and all restrictions have been lifted. DH was very excited!! He got home earlier from work last night then he ever has! The doctors exam went well for me...no pain or discomfort. Sex went very well too so I'm really starting to feel that I'm almost normal!
I'm having trouble sleeping so the DR prescibed Ambien. I'm going to try it this weekend. I've also had several crying jags this week but I think it was just because I was tired. The night sweats aren't as bad. I can't take hormones because I'm a breast cancer survivor but I think I can live with my symptoms without taking more drugs. Even the fuzzy head is getting better. All in all good things to report about the TAH.
My doctor is scheduling a breast biopsy because they can't tell if an area is something to worry about or just scar tissue so its off one problem and on to the next.

Best wishes to you all.

hello my new friends
thank you for the nice words. i have completed 2 full days at work and so far so good. i am a little tried around 3-4pm but no pain so that is very good.
ADLEGER - i am not sure why i have to wait. i am afraid i do not ask too many questions. i think because of the type of surgery i had. i do not have too many restrictions. no heavy lifting, do not stand for a long period of time and no sex.
ELLEN54-thank you for the kind words. i think you are correct about everyone gal being able to do different things at different times. i trust my doctor and will do everything he recommends. i just wish i would ask more questions when i am there. i get nervous, so i usually write stuff down, but i ask the nurse, not him. not sure why. he just seems so busy.

i hope you get nice weather in your part of the world to enjoy the weekend.
all the best

I am glad you are doing good at work. TGIF! I didn't know that you had a more detailed surgery-sorry

I am fortunate that I am a stay-at-home Mom and I don't have to report to work anywhere but home. I did start doing chores very early on though.

Have a good weekend and pamper the princess!

Hi everyone,

Bellatim-So glad to hear your first week back went fairly well! I have to see my MD in Dec 2007. I don't know if it's my age or what. I did have a small abnormal area/biopsy taken off my perineum last year and I think she just wants to check. She said I would keep with my yearly exams, breast checks, mammograms and with my ovaries, still need a pelvic exam.

shortyw-Yeah! you survived your first week back. I will be thinking of you as you undergo the biopsy.

me1113-I'm in healthcare and although I encourage others to be assertive with asking MDs etc, when I go to MD office I have to take a note too otherwise I end up being the nice, smiley patient and before I know it the MD is out the door and I forgot to ask my questions. You're not alone! Even with the note, I usually forget something.

I hope this fatigue gets better over the next few weeks. I think some of mine might be due to some extra weight(10lbs) I have put on preop and post op due to less walking -hope it will come off over next few months.

Teacher30-Continue to be thinking of you. Hope everything is going ok with the bleeding/MD appt.

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend.
Take care sisters!

Hello Girls--
Well today is the family wedding. Kinda dreading it because I my belly is already a bit swollen. Guess I won't be dancing to much. The new outfit I bought is a bit tight in the pants but not uncomfortable (bought them big just in case) but the shirt just looked ridiculous so it will be going back this week. Luckily I had something for Plan B. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with your families. Blessings to all.

Glad to hear that everyone is doing well and making it through the days back at "normal" (or at least semi-normal ) pace.

The bleeding I had stopped, so I decided to just wait and see my reg. dr. on Monday (that will be my 6 week, it had to be postponed since he was out of town. poor DH, had to wait a whole extra week!) I'm still having lots of pain, but I think it is the endo. My dr. thought it might come back, but we had decided to hold off doing the BSO to see if just taking the uterus would be enough. Well, guess not...I'll let you know what he says on Monday.

On the up side, I actually made it back to the grocery store today (MIL had been going all these weeks.) It was nice to get back and buy all the stuff I normally buy, and I was able to lift all the bags myself..whoohooo! Of course, I came and took at nap when I got home, but it is the little triumphs that count. I've made it through another week at work and feel better mentally at least. I"m just trying not to think about what my dr. will tell me on Monday!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi everyone,
Teacher30-so good to hear from you! sorry to hear that you are having all that pain. I hope you get some answers. Will be thinking of you on Monday.

zucru4-Hope you had a great time at the family wedding. I know it's a challenge to be at some of these regular life events when we don't have all our energy back yet. It's like we are happy to be at them but don't have all our "happy mood" energy like we are used to .
Will keep you in my thoughts this weekend.

I ended up waiting an extra week(it will be 7 weeks on Monday) to resume the "fun" activity. I had still been having some of that yellow/tan stitches dc and that stopped earlier this week so I felt more comfortable with the fact that the stitches were probably nowfully healed. We finally had some personal time today and I am thrilled that everything works!!! I had been so worried sex would be uncomfortable and that the big "O" wouldn't be as enjoyable with the uterus/contractions gone. I am glad to report that all systems are "go". (I do suggest to have some KY handy in case) I asked DH afterwards if he had been worried or wondering if things would be different..He just looked at me with this blank look and said "no, I hadn't really thought about any of that"... Guys are lucky in some ways in that they don't think about half the stuff we worry about. I have been feeling not great about my weight, my lumps, bumps, swelly belly etc and it wasn't putting me in the "I'm so sexy-how can you resist me" mood. Well, I am so relieved! DH still finds me desirable, the body parts all work. All is well in the world! We went out to dinner to celebrate(well , I was celebrating, DH was just hungry and doesn't think about the significance of these major life events!)

I am continuing to not overdo this weekend-not obsessing about getting all the chores done I neglected during the week. I know that work next week will be just as demanding so I want to be as refreshed as I can be. This "not overdoing" is a new behavior for me-maybe I actually did learn something on my weeks off-to take time to relax in between tasks instead of when they are all done (and then it's usually bedtime!)

I hope everyone is getting some rest and enjoyment this weekend. I hope we all will continue to write updates as we go thru these weeks ahead. It will be good to hear as we all resume our regular activities again. I have appreciated everyones feedback and support so much !

Take care!

Ellen54
Glad to hear you are kinda of getting back to normal. I am also. The only thing, like you mentioned, is my weight and belly. I have alot of dress pants and have to attend a communion at church tomorrow but all the pants are too tight around the belly area. I didn't have a Abdominal incision but it seems to have a lot of extra skin in the belly area making my clothes not fit. Does the swellybelly happen to the LAVH ladies also? You are a little further along than me. Do you think this "growth" (for lack of a better term) is going to stay with us. I am wondering if we can tone this up some kind of way or is it going to be flabby for the rest of our lives! Have you actually put on pounds or is it just swelling? I have put on a few but it seems like my clothes should still fit. Sorry to ramble on.... Glad you and your DH had a nice date!

Hi Adleger and Teacher 30,

I had an lavh and have the swelly belly. Yes, it can happen to us too! My surgery was 2/27/07. My 6 week mark was this past Tuesday, so I am well into my 7th weeks of recovery and still have the swelling by the end of the day. What I eat plays a big role as well in the swelling - I have noticed.

Teacher 30, I am so sorry to hear about the pain. My doc and I decided to leave the ovaries to see what/if anything would happen with the endo. Well, 2 1/2 weeks after surgery I went in for horrific pain on my right side. Turned out to be a chocolate cyst. Go figure! It went away within a few days of what would have been ovulation. I am at that point again in the 'cycle' and felt twinges of pain the past two days. Prayerfully, we will make it through and it will go away. My doc told me due to age (39), they like to leave the ovaries for medical reasons. My grandmother (mom's side) had severe osteoporosis and broke her hip, etc., etc. So I have a history of that in the family. Thus, decided to keep the o's. I will be praying for you on Monday!

Have a great weekend girls!

lavh 2/27/07 kept both ovaries

Hi Ladies,
I just had a read of all your posts!
I went back to work last week. I only do 2 days a week usually, and actually only went back for 1 day last week. Oh dear I was so swollen that night - and it was quite an easy day. Then the next day I kept having cramps, and stitch type pain (like I'd been running!).
Back to work again tomorrow - I do Mon and Thurs. Hopefully I will be better after that. I really don't want to delay going back any longer - financially I have run out of paid sick leave weeks ago. My Dr said basically it will be a bit of a struggle whether you go back at 6wks or 6mths.
Thinking of you all...
