home too

I'm laughing as I'm reading the post about pulling out the gauze. I thought the dr would never stop pulling out that stuff!! Talk about a funny feeling. Anyway, surgery was 2/14. Had horrible pain when I started waking up, then was sick throughout the day and night following. Was given demoral (sp) and phenegran (sp) (how do these dr. spell these words???) by thursday, felt much better, but my problem (a little gross here) my bowels wouldn't "wake up". The dr. told me that is usually the last thing to wake up after surgery, so since I couldn't pass gas, I could only have liquids and they wouldn't let me leave until I did. Thursday night I walked many rounds around the nurses station, they gave me hot tea, and were cheering me on, but to no avail. Friday morning they gave me MOM, a pruine juice coctail, plus some more meds. Just before noon, things were better, I had a nice hospital meal, since not having food since Tuesday night, it tasted quite wonderful. I was home by 2:00 Friday afternoon. I had bladder repair also, so my cathetar is my new best friend. I take it out Tuesday at home, then see the dr. that afternoon. Other than my back killing me, I'm doing well.
Hope you guys are great also!

Glad to see things are improving for everyone. I am doing very well. Hurting when I should hurt; getting up, down, twisting, coughing (avoiding at all costs), sneezing and laughing. I feel more energy than before my surgery already and it has only been a few days. Life is good.

I have to remind myself to slow down and NOT do things. My coworkers have been sending me meals - I love my kids but Hamburger Helper is going to get boring soon! lol

So chinese tonite and pizza tomorrow night.

My hormone levels seem to be good. So hopefully she started me at a good dosage and I won't have to play with it at all.

still feeling "puffy" and food doesn't taste good. I get hungry - just doesn't seem to satisfy me. Very strange.

I feel for those that had bad experiences with nurses/doctors. Sometimes I think they remove themselves too much and have no bedside manners at all

SO glad to hear you are doing well!! About the bowels.. I had to use dulcolax on the 4th day because I wasn't moving anywhere either and starting to feel toxic and yucky. Worked in about 12 hours. Take care!

Hi Shadowone. Boy, you have had a traumatic and rough hospital experience. It shouldnt have been that way. I would consider writing a letter the hospital administrator. Please be careful with your activities. It is very early to be doing chores and could actually slow your healing instead if aiding it. I know it is hard to get through the early stages of healing but just focus on taking care of yourself and letting others help you.

Well, for my update...I'm 5 days post op. Had a total hysterectomy vaginally. I was thrilled the dr. was able to do it without cutting me. However, he did not order a morphine drip, instead i received Demoral shots in the hospital. If anyone is reading this, I highly recommend to NEVER allow that to happen to you. The shots were extremely painful to receive and have left me black and blue and to keep the pain at bay, I had to receive them every 3 hours. I actually stopped taking them 10 hours before being discharged. My question is whether or not there is anything besides walking and water that can be done for the swelling and for the gas pains? I am moving my bowels again with the help of softeners and Milk of Magnesia, but I still have plenty of gas. I'm a bit afraid of Gas X as I am afraid it may constipate me. How long does this usually last? Thanks.
