I really have been helped here by reading everyone's experience's. Comparing the differences in doctor protocol is interesting. I guess there are many ways to skin a rabbit!

My surgery (TVH, both ovaries, A&P, cystocele, rectocele, and whatever other cele they could find) was 3/7 early AM and I went home 3/8 mid-afternoon. The minute the got me to my room and handed me my morphine button it was glued to my palm until it was drained...twice...LOL No point in letting any of it go to waste since I was paying for it anyway...where was I going? Seems I was grand entertainment for my family...sheeshhhh...why couldn't they let me fly in peace? *pig* LOL They removed my friend morph early on the 8th and my enemy the catheter. Ying and Yang, I guess that was a good balance.

Here is something I hadn't seen anyone post about, self cathing. Anyone have to do this? Anyway, 2 hours after removing the cath they had me practicing the self cath that I would be doing until my bladder was back to normal. I had to empty my bladder and then self cath. If I self cathed less than 100cc 3 times in a row I could stop the self cath. Well, I couldn't even trickle until last night! But today was much better and I just a little while ago made the 3x goal! Woohoo! No more cathing! *doin' da happy dance* (slowly)

Just an hour before I left the hospital I got a bit nauseous and neither the nurse or I was concerned as I had a short bout of it early in the morning that lasted only a few minutes. I think it was because they gave me two darvocet. I think I would have been fine on one...anyhow, it ends up I heaved every single hour from the time I left until the next morning when my husband called the doc and managed to get some phenergen (sp?) I later found out that it was because of the antibiotic I was taking...trashed it. Told the doc I'd let him know if I thought I was getting an infection. I work in a hospital lab so I know a putrid urine when I sees and smells it.

I was miserable up until last night. No matter how bad I felt though, each time I got up to go potty I would do a lap or two down the hall and back. I was starting to think I was never going to heal, have a BM or pee on my own again. Then today I get up and BAM, BM out of the way. I was terrified it was going to hurt due to the rectocele but I can't believe the difference! (TMI? sorry) I was shocked and realized how bad it had become. I am bruised from my belly button to my bikini line and the old stretch marks are humongous on the right side. Just how much air do they pump into you?

WAKE UP! Sorry for the novel and sorry if you fell asleep there...

And last of all, medicine wise, I can't take any kind of codiene, vicodin...darvocet works great for me and I have been taking 100mg tab every 6-8 hours. As for estrogen, I am taking estradiol 2mg. I was on PremPro for 6 years due to horrid hot flashes, bleeding, and mood swings (what swing? they were alway bad moods). I asked him just before they wheeled me in to the OR if he would have some estrogen waiting for me on the other side. He smiled and winked which was a great comfort for me. LOL

Off to check other areas of the message boards. You ladies have all been great and I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I really do want to hear from others who did the self cathing. It really wasn't that bad considering the alternative...

i enjoyed your story ts! i guess i enjoy reading what all of us are going through. i finally had a bm last night and now i'm wondering if i'll ever have another. it was painful and set me into a tailspin of nausea, feeling bad, etc. i'm taking darvocet and i'm afraid its constipating me...cant win that one huh. i'm on an estradiol patch; have no idea what its doing but it must be working. doc took all my plumbing..through incision and that thing is ugly. i have staples and i dont think highly of them either. do i sound bitter? haha..dont really mean to...just ready to be normal..well my version of my normal that is. hope all is well with everyone!

kimberlyjean, the doc put me on colace to help with BMs for a while. Most of those pain meds do slow down the action. I have the abd scar from my c-section 15 years ago and I remember how ugly they are! The good news is that they do fade away...to different degrees for each person.

oh...and I'm not sure I'm ready to "act" normal because I'm kinda enjoying being treated like a queen.

Not many bubbles and blurbs, Calla ~ I do feel 'empty' though. Not really hungry, but I could just keep eating? Which isn't good, being this sedate.

Hammer, funny you mention the sleepover. My sister (age 50) came up to visit (she is only an hour away) and slept over. We both slept in the bed downstairs. Watched Sense & Sensibility, Clarissa, etc. We thought it was quite funny that we were having a slumber party at our age. It was a blast and was great therapy for me

Had a little red blood spotting today, first time for any spotting ~ maybe I pulled something? Not having any different discomfort, so I'll just keep an eye on it.

Take care, rest well !!!

I had my surgery March 7th. And I first have to say that the wait was definately the worst part of the whole process!!
I'm unsure of the abbreviations and dont have the report back from the pathologist yet, but I had an abdominal incision. She removed my uterus and cervix as planned and my right ovary once she got in there and seen how bad it was. Guess there was scar tissue attached to it from my appendectomy scar ('85) and there was a funny spot on it, so she took that also.
Before surgery there was discussion of a tummy tuck and I just laughed it off thinking she wasnt serious. Well she was and told me she could give me one. I about fell out with excitement! )
The stay in the castle was awesome! The nurses were AWESOME and helped me before I even knew I needed it. I kept my sense of humor and had a bag of chocolates on my bedside table for them to enjoy whenever, and that was a plus I think. That and an old best friend was my head nurse, lucky me! Heehee
I've been out of the castle for 4 days and my DH has been EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!! I was worried about my children (4 and 7) but they have been great too! DH is pampering me by making me rest and not do a thing! Kinda frustrating since I want to TRY to do something. LOL
He takes the little one to my parents house in the mornings and then I get our daughter off to school so I have the whole day to rest. SUPER NICE!!
Had a worry with constipation (didnt take my stool softners) and I'd say that was the worst experience so far. Loving having this done and I know that I will feel AWESOME real soon!!! THE BEST DECISON I'VE EVER MADE!!!!!!
Had hysterectomy due to severe bleeding, adnomyosis, cysts and anemia. I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Had LsH/bso on Mar 8th. I have to say it has been good. Could kick myself for putting off to this point. Thoughtful on what to do with hormones as I do believe you still need some type of replacement even after your in menopause. Anybody try biodenticals or very low dose prespcript. Good luck to all the LIW and speed to all of us in recovery stage.

wow what a difference a day can make. Felt so good Sunday night. got up in the am on monday and was ill, today I feel great. Am trying to decide if I want to undergo the toe surgery that is scheduled for next week, or if I want to wait it out. Starting to feel so good now, not sure I want to have to sit and recover from another surgery.

anyone within the last week have supracervical laproscopic hysterectomy. Did you have bleeding or spotting afterwards and if so how long did it last? Today is my 5th day of recovery and 1st with bm which was very tough. Not feeling so good and had slight spotting again. It's tough to remember what the body went thru at times but reality does seem to bite you now and then.

Anyone having seepage from their incision that is making the skin around it raw? The whole things isn't like this - just the top couple of inches.

I am feeling great except for this darn incision. Dr office called this am to check on my progress and told me to use neosporine and keep it dry and clean.

Glad everyone is doing so well (with the occasional set back) we will all be better for it!

bhiggins - I am taking a low dose estrogen (cenestrin ?) at this time -- so far so good.
