Just curious mine isn't due till I think next week, but I feel a little like PMS, will they still do surgery if my friend is visiting?
Scheduled for TVH and bladder repair on Monday+(
Thanks,
Marcia

Period b4 surgery?
Yep, I was on mine when I had my surgery. I wore a pad all the way to the operating room!

Period b4 surgery?
I was told that they can do a hysterectomy even if you are on your period. The problem for me is that I have to take 800mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours around the clock for the first 3 days of my period. And, they won't allow you to be on ibuprofen when you have your surgery. (I believe it's a blood thinner or something like that). So, if that's an issue, it's something to take into consideration. I had to reschedule mine for a week later for that very reason (to make sure the ibuprofen will be out of my system).

Period b4 surgery?
My doctor allowed me to take Lortabs for pain until up to 24 hours before my surgery which is what I was taking regularly anyway, but no ibuprofen. Please do ask your doctor before taking anything for pain though should you need something.

Period b4 surgery?
I'm scheduled for TAH on April 6 and had the same question. The doctor had told me that the "monthly visitor" would not be an issue. However, please be check with your doctor regarding pain relievers- my doc advised me that ibuprofen is a blood thinner. During my last pre-op (operation 2 weeks ago) I was asked if I had taken ibuprofen at anytime during the week leading up to then. Apparently there is a long list of meds not to take before operations- you might want to check with your doctor.

Period b4 surgery?
My period came the day of surgery...it also seemed to coincide with all my previous gynae surgery ....No problems surgery wise. First time I felt a bit shy when asked to undress and wear nothing underneath incase I soiled the hospital gown while I was waiting. The nurse can give you paper panties and a pad to wear if you explain you are on your period, just ask, they have seen it 10000 times before.
best of luck

Period b4 surgery?
Aunt flo, the old hag, showed up the morning of my surgery...when I told the surgical nurse, she patted me on the hand and said hun, it's time you showed your body who's boss...we'll get rid of her. She said that if they had to wait for every woman to quit bleeding, they wouldn't do many surgeries.
Kick that old hag to the curb and step on her on your way out of the castle!!!!
Good luck to you

Period b4 surgery?
Marcia,
They will do the surgery. I had my very last period on the way into surgery also. The nurse will give you a pair of gause undies and a very long weird hospital pad to change into. Not to worry when you wake up it's gone .
Good luck you'll do great.

Period b4 surgery?
Yep, I was on my peroid too. The nurse just put a big fold out pad to line the bed with so I didn't have to wear any pads or panties. It was one of my litght days though. I had already asked my doctor about and he said it wouln't be an issue.
