Ok a hormone question now

I went to my pre op and from all the stuff I had read I asked all the right questions. Do I need a bowel prep.......no. Will I need hormones......no. How long will I be in the hospital.........6 days. When do I see you again........April 27. Please could someone tell me a little bit about the hormone thing. I am 50 and was still having regular periods but my doc said that being I was so close anyway I shouldn't need anything. How do I know. I think I am finding the func in dysfuntional if you know what I mean. Kay

Ok a hormone question now

I also was having periods at 53 when I had my hyst and having hot flashes as well. I have used the Vivelle dot patch for relief and liked it.
If you are having symptoms of menopause , like hot flashes, insomnia, moodiness, and they are making you miserable, then hormones might help you feel better.

Ok a hormone question now

Hi Kay,

I was 52 and a few months with my hysterectomy. I was having non-stop bleeding, not really ovulating, but having the hot flash, night sweat thing for a long time before surgery.

After surgery for the first 3 weeks, nothing....I was actually cold and that has not happened for a long time! After 3 weeks I started getting hot flashes again and started on the vivelle dot 0.50mg last week. It seems to be doing ok I've only had a random hot flash, but I've only been on it for a week.

See how you do post-op, some people don't need any HRT and others do. It is very individual.

Take Care and good luck with your surgery,
