Pain Killer Script in Advance

FYI all - I read in one of the posts that I should get my pain killer prescription before I go into the hospital so I have it ready to go home to.

I asked my doc for a drug prescription to take home from my preop appt. She said no. She told me she only does that for laproscoptic operations because the patient goes home that day or the next day. She said she'd prefer to wait and see what works for me while I am in the hospital so that she doesn't prescribe something for me that I end up purchasing that I do not want to take. It makes sense.

Any May sisters out there?

Hi diverchick,

I had my LAVH on May 9, and as far as pre-op drugs, I was given one to control nausea and vomiting after the anesthesia, and another one that I thought the nurse said was to keep my intestines moving along. I was also given the "happy juice" as the nurse called it, the one that relaxed me so much before the surgery that knocked me out almost immediately. All the meds did exactly what they were supposed to do, and I had no ill effects from them at all.

Good luck with your surgery! You'll be fine!

I agree with purplehaze, I had my surgery LAVH on May 9th also. I was told and given all of the same drugs. My "drug nurse" told me that you couldn't buy on the streets the stuff she was giving me. She was so right. I was so nervous prior to my happy juice, then so happy when given it. You will be fine and so "happy". Before you know it, it will be over.

Thanks you so much for your reply. I just signed up yesterday so i am not sure how all of this works.

I am so scared about the surgery. Like i said haveing the 2 little ones at home will be interesting. Also my step daughter is graduating high school on the 26th so i hope i will be able to go.

The surgery will be scarry and it doesnt help that i cant take ANY pain meds beacuse i have tried about 5 different kinds and they all make me sick at my stomach.

Thank you so much for writing me. It helps so much haveing someone to talk to who has been there!

Are you having a LAVH or TAH? One over the other makes all the difference in the world. I had my LAVH last Wednesday, came home on Friday and have been driving, cleaning and feeling wonderful since Sunday. My daughter graduates on the 22nd, and I had all of the same fears. Either way, if you approach it with a positive attitude you will come out better than ever.

Yes, having an abdominal incision takes much longer to heal...

My kids are 6 and 3. You'll be surprised at how they sense things. My kids have been extra gentle and cooperative for me. Plus, I have family and friends who have been great at helping out. Do you have family or friends you can count on to be there for the first few days?

Good luck. I know you're scared, but you will make it through. Ask them for some meds to help relax you when you get to the hospital. That really helped me.

Any May sisters out there?

Good morning Diverchick.

Tonight is girls night out with my close friends to celebrate my surgery. I am anxious about going in but I want this surgery really bad. My abdomen is aching like crazy so I keep thinking about how much nicer life is going to be. I am focusing on tying everything up (school, guardianship of mom, packing to move...) before I take my long summer vacation. These past few months have been a blur.

I am now concerned about how I am going to go from 9000 miles an hour to laying down and scuffing around at a snails pace. Has anyone ever spontaniously combusted????? LOL

I was actually googling to get more interesting ideas for the clear liquid diet on Tuesday. Looks like broth and juice are the main course. The doc scratched off the original time to start the clear diet from 4pm to start at noon instead ...argghhh. They are going to have to drug me out at the castle just so I don't bite them from hunger. HA HA
