stupid things people say...

My husband told a co-worker that my 6 week check had gone well at that I was healing well. This man's wife later said to me, "I heard that physically you are all healled, now you just have to heal emotionally." I know she was trying to me nice but a simple how are you feeling would have done the trick.

Almost everyone I have told that I need to have a hysterectomy the first thing out of their mouth has been "oh, are you going to have a tummy tuck at the same time"....

Well, NO but now it occurs to me that everyone around thinks I need one.....................................Why don't they just call me a fatty??? And for the record~I'm not a size 4, but I'm not that big either!

Yes, Karenlp65! You are so right! A friend told me my kitchen sucked and i should remodel it before my surgery (in three weeks!) Howzabout a simple "What can I do to help?" And it would not involve new cabinets! maybe some wonton soup....

Hi ladies!

One of the "nicest" things that someone said to me was my older sister, 2 days after my surgery, told me to "toughen up". She went on to say that she had 2 c-sections and that I need to get over it. Needless to say that my reaction to that was a prompt slam of the phone!

My insurance has cancelled my surgery twice stating I need to try more "less invasive" procedures first. My step-monster actually said to me... "Well, I guess it can't be that bad if your insurance says you don't need surgery". She also wanted me to have Easter dinner for 20 people 5 days after my Endometrial Ablation. She delights in telling me it "can't be that bad if the insurance won't approve it". Meanwhile I am on darvocet and demorol for pain and sleep most nights with a heating pad. ARRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Well, for the record I have to say my LSH was harder to recover from than my c-sections! The stupidest thing anyone said to me was after my LSH...I was about 3 weeks post-op and someone in my family implied that they thought I had become accustomed to not doing anything and had just had a "pretty easy" 3 weeks!

I have been surprised that women say just as many insensitive things as men. I guess i just thought they would understand more -- being the possessors of uteri. When I first found it in Jan it was pain or hysterectomy the women seemed to uniformly respond, "What's the big deal? Just do it!" The same women who would probably be upset over a bad haircut...

I agree with you... most of the most insensitive comments do come from women. I wonder though if it is because it's a "female issue" and men are notoriously leary of discussing anything even remotely dealing with female issues. My step-mother (aka step-monster) is the worst for me. Her comments are always spiteful and uncaring. When all of my problems really first started with me and I told her I had experienced a miscarriage last summer and my doctor was recommending a hyster due to the pain and clotting etc etc etc... she laughed and said, "Oh so there would have been 3" (meaning my third child). That was it... no support, no caring, nothing.
She also has a friend who just had a hyster. Her comment to me was that Joyce must have "really" needed the surgery... her insurance isn't giving her a hard time at all.

Jackie I am so sorry -- how horrible!! I cant imagine why someone would be so cruel. She must live a very sad life to have such low standards for it and for others. Prayers for you that the insurance company clarifies things for you soon!! And congratulations on avoiding doing the step-monster some form of physical violence! Dont worry -- karma is a "w"itch! It will find her so you dont have too!
