Don't feel too bad about that comment....for the first few weeks I was the one going around telling everyone I had been gutted like a fish. No one ever made a comment after that except to ask (sincerely) how I was feeling.

My Dad used the same remark when my Mom had her hysterectomy, which was about 20 years ago, and thought it was a perfect line. Then when I started using it when I was talking to my parents, he was the one that was getting offended!!! He said it was "different" when my Mom was getting her's done to when I was getting mine done. I actually had more things taken out than Mom did!!!!!

It's a cyst that is filled with edometriosis. Since the "color" of the edometriosis is the dark red/brown color, hence the name chocolate cyst. Guess whoever gave it the name of chocolate must have known we all crave chocoalte when it was that time of the month!!!!

my dad refers to my surgery as "female surgery" and won't really talk about it. he's about 80 and in his day men just didn't talk about that...however, when i made the comment about being gutted like a fish....he thought it was hysterical and now uses it himself when asked about my surgery....i had never heard it until my husband said it refering to my surgery! what a sheltered life i have led....

One of my good friends phoned me 1 week after surgery and said "So I bet you're feeling 100% better now eh?" I told her no, I was still taking pain meds and slowly getting around. Unbelievable.

No wonder I asked hubby NOT to let that one visit me in the hospital!

In a conversation with a family member (who is female) asked me about my patch. I told her that I have to wear because it had medicine in it because I had a hysterectomy. I told her before my surgery that I was having a complete hysterectomy (hint: the word complete). Her response "Oh I thought you just had an ovary removed. I didn't know what a complete hysterectomy was. I didn't know you had everything taken out." Well Duh!!! Is what I wanted to say, but just let it go.

Unfortunately, I've heard several of those. My husband was the one who said I was getting a "six week vacation"....I almost slugged him!

I am 2 weeks out of surgery and doing amazingly well but.....still only 2 weeks after being cut open! My 26 year old stepdaughter called and asked my husband if I was "all better yet"....LOL!

You must keep a sense of humor about all this or you might just loose it!
