Adenomyosis Symptoms?

Those of you who have adenomyosis(sp?), do you have pain all the time, or does it come and go? Not sure if that is what I have. Use to just have pains starting 2 or 3 days before periods and then the first 3 or 4 days during my period. In January of this year, I started getting pains, off and on, all month long! Some days it is really bad, others days I am ok. I had an ablation done in 2005, and am scheduled for ab hyster mid-April. Can adenomyosis be detected by an internal exam in the doctor's office? Just wondering. Thanks for any info.

Adenomyosis Symptoms?

Sorry, also meant to mention that my periods are about 15 days long, some days heavy, others not ... and clots, too. (the ablation, obviously, did not work).

Adenomyosis Symptoms?

Well, I can tell you my story....I had an embolization to remove fibroids but I still had sharp, knife-like pains with my period and it lasted 10 days or so. The pains were so bad I had to use Vicoden--Motrin did not cut it. Ended up with the hysterectomy anyway and the dr did tell me that the only way to determine ande is the pathology report after the fact. And mine did show that. My dr said a hysterectomy was about the only alternative at that point because trying to remove the ande parts meant removing most of the uterus anyway....

hang in there..hope this helps.

Adenomyosis Symptoms?

Maxine, I think only a medical professional can answer your question correctly. But I have read, I think on the Mayo clinic site, that if your adeno is bad enough, it will cause pain all month. Mine started about 7 years ago just on the first day of my period. Then as time went it it got to be more and more, and it is constant now. My Dr. has not said if she thinks I have it or not. But if I don't have it, I will be shocked. I have every single symptom. (sometimes I think I read too much and I could make myself have just about anything though! LOL) I could never come up with exactly how to describe the pain. I called it that ice pick in your butt kind of feeling. Now that I have read the Mayo site, I think knife pain is a more fitting! Someone told me they can see as soon as they look at the tissue if you have it. Others have said a path report is the only way to know. For me, I don't care when or how they know, I am just looking forward to that pain being gone!

Thankyou for the replies. I guess I willjust have to wait until the pathology report comes back to see if that is the source of my pain. Sandbox, good luck on April 7th!

Adenomyosis Symptoms?

Hi,

Aden. does occasionally show up on MRI's, but it is more often a "rule out" diagnosis and can really only be confirmed after a hyst. with pathology. I had it. I was in constant pain, worsening before my "cycle" (although I was always bleeding). My pain was very sharp- took my breath away most of the time. It wasn't constant, but I did have it every day, for several hours. I also had a pretty constant lower back ache.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Adenomyosis Symptoms?

I had a horrible pain and cramping. In addition to the adeno though I also had fibroids. My Dr told me that the pain I was experiencing was the same as extreme labor pains because my uterus was trying to expel the endometrium and fibroids which were embedded in the uterine walls. My adeno was diagnosed by the pathologist after surgery. Before that, it was just thought I had mega fibroids.

You might be interested in knowing that for me, the pain from surgery was nothing compared to the pain before surgery. I hope you find the same true for you also. It's been nice living without that adeno pain.

Best Wishes and ,
Kay
