Hey ZFMM! Hopefully you are home by now. I had my uterus removed on the 27th via abdominal surgery. I had two fibroids, one on the outside of my uterus the same size as my uterus (my Dr. called it my twin uterus). No complications - got to go home the 29th at Noon. I was border line anemic prior to the surgery and even though there was minimal blood loss during surgery, I am now anemic. Dr. didn't give me iron supplements, just my daily multi-vitamin. I guess we'll see how the blood levels are doing at my follow-up appt. on the 10th. I agree with you about getting lots of support from HysterSisters! Even though I have five friends who have had hysterectomies and stories to share, this website has been a great resource! Take care and get plenty of rest.

Mar 26

I had my operation on March 26th, they removed a grapefruit size cyst , my cervix, ovaries, the works. Got home yesterday morning. I had to stay an extra as they had to leave in the cather for 4 days to give my bladder a rest due to adhesions from previous surgery and the cyst. Had trouble with passing gas, but they have a tube that they use to remove all the trapped gas. After that it was smooth sailing. Been walking and drinking lots of liquids. Have to go in this week to have the sutures removed. Not much pain, tylenol keeps it under control.

Thanks for the words of encouragement JayHawk. I am feeling okay today. I have a moist heating pad on my incision. I am getting these feelings of abdominal vibrations on the left side only. Not sure what that is about. I too will see what my blood levels are on Wed. (4/4) to see if I need to continue taking this iron.

I hope you continue to have a speedy recovery. That wish goes out to all as well. Take care.

Hi renaanne, I was also at Northside fro a TAH/BSO on March 27th. What a small world. Hope all is well with you.

On the road to recovery

Hi Ladies! I found this site a couple of weeks before my LAVH was scheduled and "snooped" around as a visitor. I have now become a member and had my surgery on March 26. I had originally been told I had cysts on my ovaries, but I was having a lot of pain for the past few months. My Gyn did a vaginal ultra-sound and found that I also had adenomyosis and told me I was a perfect candidate for a LAVH. My surgery went very well, my doctor said she was very pleased. I only had to spend one at at the castle and everyone was great. I have been doing well since coming home. I am not in pain much at all, so I take my percocet just before bed. I started on the Climara patch on Wednesday. I go tomorrow (4/2) for my first post-op appointment and am looking forward to my staples being removed. I am glad I found this site prior to my surgery, I found answers to questions that I hadn't thought of and that were not covered in the pamphlets that the doctor gave me. I have also found answers and tips for my post-op recovery. Best wishes to all my new "Hyster Sisters"!!

home and recovering

had a TAH and LSO in March 27th. Seem to be doing OK at this point but do have more pain on the left side. and still dealing with some gas and irritable bowels 6 days later. Is this normal? I am walking about 15 minutes 2 times a day.

I Had the hysterectomy because of endometriosis and when the the doctor came to talk to me after the surgery he told me he had a difficult time of it because the uterus was stuck to the bladder. Hopefully this relieves all the discomfort.

Hey Renaane, yep, I was at Northside, too. Fortunately it wasn’t too far of a drive. I live in Alpharetta. I had trouble getting my bowels to work, too, and finally decided to give gold old prune juice a try. I was SO uncomfortable, even though I had not eaten a lot. It did take a while (about 5 hrs) but I feel SO much better (in that area anyway). I stopped taking the percocet (which can also make the bowel situation difficult) Saturday. Today I am dizzy (ok, dizzier than I normally am, ), really weak, and would say that the pain is mostly associated with the longer incision. I feel like I had more energy and felt better the night I came home and the next day. Go figure…….

Hey Sebus, if still having potty issues, try the prune juice, worked for me.

Hugs to all of my fellow HysterSisters!

It sounds like I'm right on track with fnnyfce! The day after surgery was the best I felt! Today I am dizzy, really weak and my eight inch incision burns and hurts. I have contributed the dizziness and weakness to anemia. I cut back on the pain meds yesterday but was so miserable. I am still having difficulties getting my bowels to move. I am taking stool softener after each meal and have had very little relief! I was so uncomfortable last night I thought I was going to burst my incision open! Therefore, I started the pain meds back on schedule last night. Just for the night though. I have successfully cut back some today.

I'm sending my hubby out for prune juice! So, how much did you have to drink? Did you drink it straight, dillute it? Needless to say, I haven't drank prune juice since I was a child and my mother made me drink it!

I had a STAH (?subtotal abdmominal hysterectomy?) on 3/27, removing my uterus with fibroids only. I still have my cervix and ovaries. I'm 42 and "too young" according to my dr. to go through surgical menopause. Plus, they were healthy. I wanted to do the least evasive thing. I chose to keep my cervix because I didn't want to deal with bladder issues, prolapse, etc... The dr. said I had so much scar tissue from my c-section (16 years ago) on my cervix, she was glad I made the decision to keep it. The c-section is why we did abdominal surgery. Replies and stories on HysterSisters is the reason I decided to keep my cervix!

Thanks for everyone's input! Take care!

Sorry if this is a dupe reply, having issues.

Christina,

I’ve never had prune juice before but I do love prunes as a snack. I think I had about 8oz, in ice. Seemed like a lot but I was SO uncomfortable that I drank it all with no complaints. I did consider a second glass after a few hours but then decided that I should wait and am glad that I did. I wish I had more experience with prune juice so I could give you good advice but this was my first go ‘round, so to speak. Maybe you could start a new post asking others specifically about how much, how often, etc?? Just a thought.

I assume your DH is back from the store already, sorry I am just now seeing this post. Enjoy the juice! It just might make your day!

Hugs,
Kathy
