Well, I called the doc's office and of course my doc's on vacation!!! But the nurse is going to call me back... I am reassured that passing stitches when peeing is completely normal at this stage!

I slept last night! Boy, did I! 10+ hours! Hopefully sleep's healing properties were at work.

Here's hoping jen and jay's trips to the doc go well.

lower back pain

Hi girls! I haven't been around for a while but I'm back....

Did anyone else wake up from surgery with horrible back pain? I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op and my back is still so incredibly tight and sore.

I also feel like I can feel the stitches up in my vagina, almost like a tampon string coming out or stuck where it shouldn't be.

Anyone else with the back pain issues?

Thanks!

Renee

Hi to all sisters. Had TAH/BSO on 27th March 07 in the UK and have just found this site so thought I would join in the support for everyone. You all seem so set up for dealing with this in the States!! There seems to be so little in the UK for this kind of support especially when I left hospital 4 days after with no info whatsoever as to recovery stages/what to do/not to do etc. All the posts on this site have been really useful for me and I no longer feel quite so alone!!! I had a great start to my recovery and felt fab - quite bright and positive but 2 weeks down the line, I think that I have just realised that this is going to be a longer process than I thought!! I still cannot wear my clothes due to the dreaded swelly belly and i am fed up with waking up feeling ok but by the end of the day feeling as though my belly is dragging along on the floor!!!! I am already on HRT (premarin) so do not have the dreaded hot flashes that some of you poor things are suffering - I know what they are like from pre-op hormone treatment!! However, I can sympathise with all of you who feel as though the constant pain and discomfort in the belly area will never go. I still find it difficult to pee unless I am actually bursting to go and am fed up with the constant discharge and need to wear pads since I had a big bleed out last week (I didn't bleed much during the op so I guess it had to collect somewhere!!!). The only good thing is that because i suffer with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ulcerative Colitis as well, my pain meds are already pretty good (which is great particulary as the hospital staff did not have a clue as to what to give me for this!!!!). As I live by myself it is really tempting to do too much so I have to really restrain myself and convince myself that things can wait and that I deserve to relax and recouperate. The one good thing is that I am not due back to work until 15th May!! This is the first time that I have posted anything on a message board so I hope that I have done it correctly - didn't know whether to reply or post new thread - I am sure that all you sisters out there will keep me right as I really value all the advice etc that you have already given me whilst I have been browsing. Love and gentle to all

Kelad ... you're right where you should be with a 3/27 surgery for fellowship with those of us at the same same stage of recovery.

If you have a question about a specific symptom, concern, etc. you would want to post a separate thread so you can get input from a wider range of sisters (i.e., those that have been recuperating longer).

Welcome!

Hi Kelad, Welcome to this wonderful site. I know I would not have gotten through the first few days at home if I didn't have somewhere to share my feelings, irritations, and concerns over what was happening post op. Glad you were able to get some good information from us. I am on this site sooo much during the day.

Colls - I am sorry your dr. is on vacation. That would probably be my luck too, but I'm glad the nurse was able to reassure you that it is normal at this time.

Jen - Good luck with the procedure today.

Jayhawk - I hope you get to see your doctor today.

TK - thanks for the support of my ranting posting last night. I checked out your pic. Only found one - the one of you and your DH at the Minnesota State Fair. I will try and upload some from me later today and let my sisters know to go take a look. It's nice to put a face to the people you are writing to.

I had a very sleepless night last night. Probably because I did not take any pain meds for about 12 hours. Thought I could handle the pain med free. I've had meds left over after previous surgeries, ie. C-section and gallbladder removal and never finished them. I guess this operation is different (in more ways than one).

Sophia - It took me a bit, but I understand the bicoastal sisters reference. Either it was a blonde moment or a drug induced moment not sure which.

TAP - Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with incision spotting and you too are a "to the day" hystersister with me and Sophia.

I will talk to you all later today. I'll probably be napping on and off most of the day.

Welcome!!!! Glad you jumped right in! you've done everything correctly (none of us actually knows what "correctly" is, though - ha ha)We are all learning together. You seem to be going through very similar things to our little group.

I can sympathize with you. As time goes on, I feel a little better each day and yet I'm also faced with the stark reality that recovery is going to take weeks and months, not days. Initially, I imagined myself back at work part-time already (I was supposed to have a VH but ended up with an AH). In reality, I won't be back part-time for at least two more weeks (and that's isn't very sure right now).

Again, welcome!!!

Welcome back! I get shooting back pain when I drive. I'm technically cleared, but something about driving irritates something inside. It's not really muscular. Who knows...

Driving gets me too! It is way down the back, below the curve of the spine.... Not fun. I even have begun to enjoy (ha ha) groin pain while driving too.
