Thumbs up - Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 02,2007 Congratulations, Sophia

HOW FANTASTIC FOR YOU, SOPHIA!!! I am so proud of you. At first, I thought you were going to give some graphic detail of something you passed physically (like the mammoth stitch I passed today! )!!!

To realize such an accomplishment on its own merits is exciting. To do so 2 1/2 weeks after a hysterectomy with all the physical and emotional issues that brings to the table -- OUTSTANDING!!!

Snaps for Sophia, Sisters! (from Legally Blonde) Kudos! It's about time you were blessed with some outstanding news! And it's not a physical milestone -that's even a non-expected, bigger surprise!

After insomnia last night, I decided to be more active today. I folded two baskets of laundry and took a short walk. Now I have a new pain! On my right side! I must have over did it. Dr. refilled pain med's - no percocet - Ibuprofen 800mg this time. So far not a miracle worker! She's out of the office until Wed. so I may call her then if I need percocet still. Hope I sleep like a baby tonight!

Hi Sisters! I got to spend all day at the hospital and clinic! Fun! I'm still in lots of pain in the left ovary area and I had an exam, labwork, a pelvic ultrasound and (yet another) C/T scan. At what point do I become radioactive? Yikes! My doctor (who by the way is the most wonderful doctor on the face of the earth...except, perhaps, for yours) ruled out torsion, a hernia and infection.

Today, I also learned the most amazing thing this year. The 4 to 5 inch incision line at the bottom of my abdomen is the "external incision". That's only where they opened me up in order to make the 18 inch incision through my muscles. That internal incision, stretching in a big smile from hip to hip, has hundreds of stitches and and feels like a skinny umbilical cord lying on top of my muscles. So...tell me: did you all know this? Am I the only person who didn't know this? I seriously thought I only had a 5 inch incision. Really!

After seeing the look of amazement on my face, my doctor reminded me that is one reason why I am not to go back to work for 6 weeks. I think if I had realized this earlier, I might not have spent Saturday raking and shoveling doggie doodoo's Ignorance is not bliss, it's painful! Hope you all are smarter than me!

Happy 3-week Hysterversary, All You 3/26 Ladies!!!

Happy 3 week hysterversary to all us 3/26 hystersisters!!!

The only downside to this milestone is that it marks the halfway point to when I MUST return to work! It seems, however, that I'm on track recovery-wise. Sleeping nights again. Ovaries seem to be working again as the terrible mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats seem to be gone. Passing stitches still. I saved the one I passed today to take to the doctor because it was HUGE! (Hope that's not .)

Getting my hair colored for the first time in my life tomorrow. We'll see how the hormones handle it. Change still seems to trigger tears. But since I'm feeling about 90 and my grays are all I see in the mirror, I decided to do something about it. Pray for me that I end up with no regrets!

I was surprised that they asked my surgery date and if I was on hormones when I scheduled the hair appointment. Apparently, you can't have color or perm done within a certain period after surgery and some hormones can affect the way they "take"? News to me. Anyone else ever heard of this? It's not an issue for me, however, as I met the timeframe and am not on HRT. Just curious.

Hope you all continue to improve in your recovery and have good nights' sleep and a blessed tomorrow.

Gotta go, the Bachelor is on......!

OMG, TK...

I had no idea! Of course, I don't have an abdominal incision at all b/c of my TVH, but I have often posted my special thoughts and prayers for those of you who do. Now I'll pray even harder, as that DOES constitute major surgery! Not to minimize the TVH and I am taking it easy, but all you TAH's have been WIDE OPEN! Heal well, and take it especially easy!

Thanks for the good wishes, Colls. I was SUPPOSED to have a TVH, but my pelvic floor was too firm. My doctor also really needed to look around at all my organs and look for adhesions. From what I can tell, the TVH is only slightly less painful, but the recovery time seems shorter.

Happy 3-week anniversary to you too, Colls!
And everyone else that shares this date. I can't believe it's been 3 weeks. It seems like yesterday I was on the pre-op thread getting info about the dreaded bowel prep.

I've been doing great ... all body functions back to normal and my HRT (low dose estrogen pill) is working wonderfully! Last night I had a "milestone" too (no, not THAT one ... yet). I was able to give myself a pedicure for the first time in six months. My huge fibroids had been causing pain on my right side on down my right leg when I would bend to get to my toes on that foot. No problem now! It's amazing how significant little things like that are now.

My doctor does 3-week post-op check-ups, so I'll get the "official" status on my recovery tomorrow afternoon. The only thing I'm concerned about is that unlike most of you I haven't passed any of those infamous stitches yet. I feel left out!

I'll also find out when I can go to work. I wasn't working full-time when I scheduled my surgery, so I didn't ask. But I was offered a new job last week and I'm hoping to start next Monday. Anyone think 4 weeks post-op is too soon (I had an LAVH)? I'm feeling really good, and since I haven't worked since before Christmas I'm rested and ready. And I'm excited about this job. They know I'm recovering from a hysterectomy (I had the first interview at 1 week post-op) and said I can start with shorter days if I need to for a couple of weeks. DH thinks I should wait another week or so, but I'm so anxious to get started.

Everyone sleep well!

I am so glad to hear everyone is doing so well finally. TK I hate to hear about your trip back to the castle. I know where you are coming from. Been back there myself. As of right now my left side is aching bad. I didn't do anything today.

I knew that your outside incision was not the only one you had but didn't think I should have told you about cutting through the muscle. I was totally laporscopic. I have one incision on my right side that is infected and still oozing but dr. is not concerned with that. It is however getting smaller. The other two one on the left and one in my navel have completely healed.

Music Teacher-good luck at the dr. tomorrow. I asked about going back to work and he wouldn't even talk about it with me. I see him again on may 8th. Let us know how he feels about that.

I haven't passed any stitches in about 5 days. I thought with lastnights activity I would pass a lot today. But nope, nothing....

Well good night to all and I hope everyone sleeps well tonight. I give up on that. I am going to go grocery shopping in a couple of hours. Can't sleep might as well do something.
