Normal Recovery Time

Before I left the hospital, my discharge nurse gave some instructions that I needed to follow during my normal recovery time but she never defined what that was and I never asked.

I intend to go back to work on April 23rd - that's my definition of 'normal recovery time'. I feel pretty good and don't want any setbacks. Is there some ballpark timeframe?

Dear Safeone,
Did your Dr. give you any guidelines as to when to come in for a follow-up? I know, my discharge instructions were also kind of vague, but the Dr. had already told me what she expected. I think you'll find many of us on this site have been told to expect anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks to recover before being able to lift more than 10 lbs and have sex. A lot depends on what type of hyster. you had and what was done inside.

If you're uncertain and don't have a follow-up appointment set for anytime soon (often 2-4 weeks out) I'd recommend calling the Dr.s office and asking them what's the procedure post-op.

Good luck and speedy recovery but don't rush it! LJC

Normal Recovery Time

It appears that the normal recovery time for a lap is anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. It seems that most go back around 4 or 5 weeks.

For a TAH or SAH it is 6 to 8 weeks. Let your body dictate when you go back. As many people say here you only have one chance to heal correctly.

Be patient and talk to your dr.

Normal Recovery Time

Safe -

I had the same surgery and was out for 6 weeks and then back the first week at 6 hour days (I really needed this as I was pooped by 2 PM).

I found I had a hard time getting my energy back and that made 'returning to normal' a challange.

As many will say realize this is your opportunity to heal correctly.

At 4 weeks I decided to surprise my staff and show up for the year end party. I got up and ready. Stopped by a friends for about an hour and then headed into work. I went in said 'hi' and left for home when they headed over to the party. I was pooped when I got home and a bit sore. All in all, I think I was out of the house about 4 hours.

I guess I am impatient. I just can't believe that my recovery would be so easy. I go to the DR on Weds for staple removal; maybe she'll give me some guidance then. You are right though, I only have this one time to heal properly. I certainly don't want a relapse and at my age, I know should know better
