Went today for my 3 week post-op check (first since leaving the castle). No pelvic exam, dr. said it was too early, and he didn't want to disturb anything ? Even he couldn't believe how well I am getting around and feeling. Cleared me to drive and do whatever I felt like (but no sex) as long as I wasn't overdoing it. Cautioned me to remember this was still major surgery and body still needed more time to heal.

If he didn't do an exam, how can he tell if everything is healing correctly or not? What did he say about sex"? I can't wait for the doc to clear me (last time I went this long was when our youngest son was born - 15 years ago)! TMI ;0)

Hello All,
radicial hysterectomy on April 2nd. Today is April 26th. I am still really swollen and very distressed at the follow up surgery. I did have 1st grade endo cancer which spread down into the endocervix. He said it was very rare that it would spread this way. I went to see the radio/onco and she wanted to do six weeks daily radiation because WHOOPS... surgeon did NOT take out any lymph nodes. I was so upset. When I asked him about this he said.. well, we went into this surgery with the idea that you did NOT have cancer. (biopsey said endometrium glandular atipica) and I saw no reason to take them out. I could of CROAKED. I told him what the radiologist said and he said that it was ridiculous and that he would have a talk with her. Well, she called later that day and now downgraded my therapy to six out patient brachytherapy treatments. (intra-vaginal) I asked her the reason for the change of mind and she said that it was very low grade cancer and it didnt go outside of the uterus (?..endocervix??) and that all his margins were clean. I was VERY leary of this explanation and am wondering if he isnt just covering up his mistake. HAs anyone else had this experience? I am going for the first treatment May 15. I thought that really soon after surgery too. I am REALLY nervous. THank you to anyone who replies.

Hi, I think I would get my records and get a second opinion just to be on the safe side.

I would get a second or a third opinion. I would also make sure to got to a doctor NOT affiliated with the same hospital (if that is an option for you).

I would be angry and uncertain. Taking action on my own behalf always makes me feel more empowered.

Good luck!

Hello Everyone,
Im sorry but I dont think I am working this site properly. I thought that I had replied to thank everyone for their input but I dont see it.
So... THANK YOU to everyone who replied. I have already sent my records to another doctor who is amazed that he did not take out the lymph nodes because the doctor I am seeing now is one of the nations top gyn/oncos. He is CHIEF of a major Philadlephia Hospital so it is hard to get a second opinion with that in mind. However, I called two different specialists and did get 2 different opinions.. one, being OMG I cant believe he didnt take out the lymph nodes so you are guessing which is awful because that does mean the six weeks intensive radiation and then the other one said he thought the brachytherapy would be enough since it did not go up into the uterus but down to the endocervix (which apparantly is rare for endometrium cancer). so... one said 20% chance of reoccurance without pelvic radiation and the other one said 5% with brachytherapy. ugh. now I really dont know what to do. I mean, really, why in this world would you leave in the lymph nodes.. unbelieveable.
Thanks to all again

Sorry.. forgot to add. They both asked me if I could go back into surgery and just get the lymph nodes out. Both said it would mean open gut surgery again.. (shudder).. has anybody had to have this done?? Just lymph node resection??
thanks again,

I can definitely relate to that, Jen. I am 3 weeks post-op and wonder if I'm ever going to be back to normal. I've heard anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months! Am astonished how tired I still am after 3 weeks!
