I don't feel as terrific as you and am envious. I am 63 years old. Maybe you are a young chick! I am also 5 weeks out and still lack energy. I went to my doctor for a post-op appointment because I have been spotting off and on. He put my mind at ease and told me I am healing up fine. I have a vaginal cuff that has stitches (had everything taken out) and the spotting is the stitches dissolving.

Post Op Check

My six-week post op check went well. I drove three hours each way to see the Doctor who did my surgery and she spent maybe five minutes with me. A quick look at my incision and a quick internal (didn’t hurt at all) and she said I had healed beautifully and could resume all normal activities. I started to ask questions about exercise and was told to use my common sense. She did say that some twinges and sore muscles are normal and okay. Finally she mentioned that a normal uterus is about 90 grams and mine was 1078 grams. She seemed amazed by this. No wonder I looked pregnant all the time. I’m feeling great. I have already been walking about 10,000 steps a day and this week will add a little swimming and ride my stationary bike. I’d love to hear from everyone on how they are doing at the six-week mark.

I am 6 weeks post-op and am doing fine, though I am still quite tired and not back to where I was before surgery. I am 63 years old and had a total hysterectomy for uterine cancer. It just takes time. I am walking further and further though and feel stronger.

I had my 6 week check-up yesterday. Everything is healed. My vaginal walls are thinning and pale so she put me on estrogen cream once a week at night. (everything was removed) I'm still a little tired and nap every afternoon. I plan to start looking for a healthclub to join to help me get motivated to get back in shape. I'm 43 and this heat down south is already making me nuts! I am starting to have some "baby" hot flashes which I don't like. It's like I am prespiring all of the time. Yuk. I'm to go back in 3 months for follow up to see how my "vaginal walls" are doing.

I went for my six week post op also and he said I was doing well and healing well. I had a total hysterectomy and had 1st grade endometrium cancer which had spread down into the endocervix. I have not had my brachytherapy yet and am really nervous about that.
I am very tired but am starting to be able to go a little more each day I guess. I have definate hot flashes and feel like my very core is heating up and I sit in front of the fan for about 15 minutes which helps. I am not a candidate for hormone replacement as I had blood clotting issues in my life (I am 52). Glad to hear all of you are doing about the same as I am. I like this site as I dont feel so alone and feel like I get more questions answered just by reading everyone elses experience. Thanks everybody for just being here!

I had my 6 week dr. appt yesterday. I feel great and have been doing more and more each day. The doctor gave me the release to go back to work ...and told me to do anything I want in moderation and to be sensible on how I feel. I still have a couple of stitches (had a TAH) so no 'sex' for at least another week. I do have trouble sleeping at night (no daytime nap). Only sleeping about 4 hours. Been a bit moody. I told the Dr. I was supposed to be post menapausal (i'm 55). So I'm going to use Remifemin, a natural product. I used this when I was pre-meno. Anyone else out there using natural products that they've had good success with.

Continued recovery to everyone.

Back In The Saddle...

I had my 6-week checkup today, after TAH with rectocele repair, and my doctor released me for everything (but with caution). How liberating!!!
The biggest shocker was that she even said I could start riding my horse again (I had thought I would need to wait until the 10-week mark). I don't ride hard - I show in western pleasure, and my horse has very smooth gaits. Now I can start working my way back to the activity level I was at prior to the surgery. My doctor said to take it slow at first, and in another 5-6 weeks, I could be back to my pre-op activity level. I have tons more energy now than I did before the surgery, but I plan on being extra careful.
I still have a little bit of an IBS issue, and am hoping it resolves on its own in the next couple months.
I am so happy I found the HysterSisters site as it has helped me immensely in providing information and planning my recovery. Best wishes to all in your recoveries!

hi all, it's been 6 1/2 weeks and i'm doing pretty good! walked about 1 1/2 miles late afternoon yesterday and was hoping it would just make me sleep like a log but i was extremely achy and would get hot and then get cold, within minutes and kept tossing and turning all nite. i had an estrogen shot in the hospital and have no other synthetic hrt. i do have soy milk every morning with my cereal so that may be curbing some of the symptoms...but no real hot flashes yet (waiting). i had everything removed tvh. anybody else having similar symptoms and have any suggestions?

since i am still fatigued (i think that's more from my fibromyalgia) and had some granulated tissue on my vaginal scar that he scraped off at the 6 week appt my dr is keeping me out until 6/4, 8 weeks. i'm bored but ok with that. i am doing some work from home (computer) but mostly trying to catch up on my house stuff like filing insurance papers and getting some house things repaired. that's pretty exhausting in itself! take care all!

Hi Jeanie, I am 7 weeks out and am walking 2 miles a day slow, but feel I am doing very well for my age (63). I too am experiencing hot flashes worse than before, I guess because they took out everything. No HRT ( had uterine cancer) or varsity sleeping pills. My doctor won't prescribe them. Am having lots of trouble sleeping and taking Sominex and it is better. I have come a long way from surgery, but still have a ways to go regarding my energy level. My doctor said 3 months and that would take me into July.

Take care, Connie

I had my hyst/cystocele/urethra surgery April 9th and I am still miserable. I am having painful urination and abdominal pain. Went for 6 week check and the doc says that I am healing very slowly. She gave me some estrogen cream to speed things up. I am more concerned with the painful urination more then anything. There is no sign of infection so I am worried that maybe something went wrong. It still hurts to sit for long.
