18 days Postop

Well, I am 18 days post op. II have been working a little this week at my shop but somedays I work 3 hours and some days only an hour or so. Today I rested and did not need to take any pain meds until about 2pm in the afternoon. I started to have pains in my right side that made it hard to walk and then I have been having pains at or near what used to be my cervix. I guess my vaginal cuff maybe healing? Not sure. I was talking to a Dr. friend of mine ( not my regular Dr.) who specialty is pain management now ( he used to be a gyn specialist) and he said it could be scar tissue causing a little pain at this point. I think I will post that as a topic to see if anyone has ever heard of that before as an explanation for pain. I can not get over how patient and caring my family has been through all this, it's just wonderful! I hope everyone is hanging in there!

Hello Sisters, I hope you all are recovering well! I had my 2 week post-op Friday. I was so out of it after the surgery and sick from the morphine the next morning, I really didn't get to talk with my Dr. before I went home. I found out that my uterus weighed in at 250 grams and a normal uterus tops 120 grams. One of the Fibroids was large and at the top of the uterus. I also had Adenomyosis. I am hoping that as my ferritin levels come back up that my my hair will start growing back in, And I won't be tired all the time. Right now I am feeling pretty good about my decision to have a hysterectomy, I should have done this years ago. Take care

[b]Hello!

As I respond,I hope everyone is on the "happy" road of recovery! I had my surgery on 4-6-07, a (TAH). I am feeling much better each day. My surgery took longer than expected;(4hrs.+). It was discovered that my uterus was twice it's normal size, Dr. and I kew it was enlarged, just didn't know it would be larger. I also had adenomyosis amd endometriosis, plus scar tissues and adhesions on my uterus and colon. No wonder I was always in "pain" every day. [i]Thank God![u] everything went well during surgery and afterwards. I was in the hospital a total of four days. First week home was the worst for me. Husband and children and extended family has been wonderful! Ladies! Ladies! get all the Necessary rest possible. Let your body heal, and do not rush into anything! Leave all heavy work and housecleaning to others and to whomever voluteers. Fortunately, all of my lab work came back negative. I continue to take pain medication, but need less, as opposed to soon after surgery. I am just glad it is (the surgery) is behind me now and the recovery and healing can continue. Many Blessings to all! and healthy and speedy recovery to all!

Sincerely,
Nefratiri7

Three Weeks Post-Op!

Hello, princesses!

I am now 3 weeks post-op and feeling great following TAH with anterior repair and bladder suspension. The weather here in Maine has been gorgeous! Hard to believe it was snowing a week ago - yesterday was in the 80s! My 2-week post-op check went well, and my 5 lb. weight restriction was changed to 10-15 lbs. And I can drive again... yippee! FREEDOM! I have been taking frequent walks around the yard, and even took a short walk along the beach last week to check out the storm damage. I've been lightly grooming my horses as well. I keep busy indoors with sketching, watching tv and napping.

My incision is healing nicely - my doctor used stitches that will dissolve - and the bruising is almost completely gone now. I am no longer taking pain meds... not even tylenol. My swelly belly gets worse by evening, but it's better this week than it was last week. Still experiencing painful gas, but had been experiencing IBS symptoms prior to my surgery, so my colon is probably still unhappy with me. The gas pain is worse in the evening when my belly is more swollen. Has anybody else experienced this? I've never been formally diagnosed with IBS, and I'm not ready to have it checked out until I'm more healed from the hyster. I can't imagine going through a colonoscopy right now! My doctor suspects the IBS symptoms were related to my enlarged uterus, fibroids and scar tissue.

Hope everyone else is taking it easy and healing nicely!

Hi Sisters!!!
I am also 3 weeks post op TVH and doing great. For the last 5 or 6 days I haven't had any pain when I wake up in the morning. I only start to feel pressure in my pelvic late in the evening and I attribute that to gas pains. My bowels have been regular which is a miracle for me... The last two days I don't even feel like I've had surgery. I vaccumed two rooms today. I had daughter pick it up and bring it in the rooms for me so all I did was push it but it felt great. I am doing more each day. I guess what is the hardest for me was watching my boys mow the yard Saturday and not being able to help them. I felt good enough to ride the mower but was afraid the jaring around might set me back. I am trying to build my energy level up so when I travel in three weeks to train employees I will be able to work the 12 to 14 hour days required to do the training. The only problem I am still having is the night sweats. I hope everyone continues to heal well..

I am 3 weeks out today from a partial abdominal hysterectomy, some days I can go most of the day without taking anything, but today is not one of those days, it's very frustrating.......

I've been taking the kids to school and picking them up and have managed to make supper a few times though.

Our house is under contract now and once we get through the inspection period I'll begin packing, which will be next week sometime, I know I can't do any lifting yet, but I can at least pack........

Our plan is to move to Denver in early June, so that should give me plenty of time to recover fully, my 6 week post op is on the 18th of May and I hope she'll give me the all clear to do all the stuff I normally do....

Well, I am now 3 weeks post op. I got the pathology reports back, and thank god, no more cancer. The first week was hard, I thought it would honestly be like having a baby, and BOY, was I WRONG!!!!! The second week was better, and now I feel like I am so much better that I am trying to get back to real life. Unfortunatly, I am not completly healed, and sometimes I push it a little too much and don't realize it until after I start hurting. My biggest problem right now is that I still get pretty tired after just minimal activity. This is so against what I am used to, that its difficult to adjust to. When does life really get back to normal??????

Hi! This is a great forum! I'm just now posting about my TAH on April 2. Mine hasn't been going so well.

I decided to do this because of heavy bleeding and ovarian cysts. I had had cysts before and this was the third time getting them - very painful! I was tired of it all and told the Dr. to take it all away!
The actual surgery was supposed to be a TVH, and the uterus came out that way, but my Dr. couldn't reach or get to my ovaries so she had to move over to a TAH. I had so much scaring and everything was stuck to my bowels that it took 4+ hours of surgery. Final conclusion was endometriosis (a surprise), Cysts - both complex and simple, and adenomyosis.

I don't remember much about going into surgery, or anything until I got back to my room. Then I remember snoozing for what seemed like hours, but according to the clock it was only 7-8 minutes - really wierd. They took out the catheter that evening and made me stand up and sit in a chair. Yikes! The nausea sent me back to bed as soon as they'ld let me :-) I finally got out of the hospital on Thursday evening. I got home, had dinner, went to bed and slept pretty well.

The next day I took my drugs like a good little girl, but by the evening I had such a bad headache and fever, that I was having trouble keeping anything down. I had aches and pains in my chest and lower right rib cage. My husband started calling Dr. Friday at 10pm, and didn't get a call back until the next morning. She put me back in the hospital for "observation" and to run a catscan a radiograph. Turns out I had a blood clot somewhere off my kidneys in my abdomin and the lower part of my right lung had collapsed. I had already been on Lovenox because of a previous blood clot, so everyone was pretty surprised. I didn't get to leave the hospital this time until my blood thinners had straightened out, which took until Tues (4/10/07). Other than the headaches, which were nightly, I had no other pain. I didn't take any pain relievers other than Tylenol after day 5.

On day 11 I called the Dr. back again - I was still running a fever, so they ran some *more* blood tests and urinalysis. Now I had a bladder infection - back on those dratted antibiotics, and my liver enzymes were bad, so I was told to quit taking tylenol, and to not drink as much water (my sodium level was way down)! Luckily the pain wasn't bad at all.

I went in for my first INR on day 11 and found out that my blood was 8.8 (it's supposed to be between 2 and 3) and was asked if I would go into the hospital again. No way! They said if my level was 9.0 I would definitely be going back in, but they would give me the benefit of the doubt and let me stay home *if* I went straight home, and stayed there all weekend - no driving around.

Back to my Dr. on Monday, where she sent me back for another blood test to check out the liver enzymes, and back to my blood Dr. My liver enzymes were getting back to normal, but not all they way there yet. My next INR was better - blood level at 3.1 - so less worry about bleeding out.

Day 14 I'm finally done with all the antibiotics and starting to feel better for more than a few hours at a time.

Today is Day 21. I still tire very easily. Drove for the first time today and I am starting to feel antsy and ready to do stuff. I went to a quilt class tonight. The whole day was way too much. I'm very achy right now and so tired, but every day I feel better and better.

I've been keeping my mind busy with hand sewing, and books on tape. I highly recommend books on tape!!! I was totally unable to read or do anything for the first two weeks, and the BOT were a life (mind :-) saver!

I'm looking forward to a time when I can think clearly for more than a couple of hours at a time! To top it all off, due to previous afore mentioned blood clots, I cannot take any hormones to alleviate the night sweats and hot flashes. So far - I've been able to deal with them.

Thanks for listening and I hope others are having a better time than I. I'm sure when I get farther into this I'll be glad I did this :-)
