How old is everyone?

ANGEL EYES, hi....I'm 34 no kids, and just had tah w/bso 3 weeks ago today. Are you having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that you'll never have kids? I didn't think that I even wanted them and now that the choice is not mine, I'm struggling just a bit. It's wierd how things change when they aren't under your power anymore, isn't it? I just wanted to let you know that you are NOT alone. I've had a rough time dealing w/the whole thing. It has not been fun.

How old is everyone?

I am 37, no kids, tubes tied since I was 27. I personally never wanted any children and after having a few minor problems with birth control, my husband (now ex) and I decided it would be best for me to have a tubal ligation done. I had cervical dysplasia when I was 22, for which I under went cryosurgery for and had a clean bill of health until a few years ago when ovarian cysts started popping up and causing pain. I also started missing periods and my primary care doctor said to give it a few months. I did and then she put me on birth control pills for a month to help with the cyst, which went away after my period. I was fine for another 18 months when I noticed I would have abdominal pain before, during and after my period. I figured it was another cyst and did not go back to the doctor until it was time for my yearly visit. My doctor then said that I probably had another cyst and then she sent me for an ultra sound for confirmation. And I had cysts on both ovaries. She told me to wait another month, to see if this one too would go away. It didn't, so she referred me to my gyn and she did a vaginal ultra sound and found that I also had adenomyosis and said that since I did not want children that a LAVH w/BSO would be perfect for me. I had my surgery on 3/26/07 and have progressed very well with little or no problems. No one knows how you feel and the pain you deal with. That is what I love about this site... we're all going through it together and have great information to pass along.

How old is everyone?

Hi! I'm 57 years old. I had my total hysterectomy, DSO when I was forty. I have two grown children, a daughter thirty-seven and a son thirty-one. I am surprised to read that so many of you have had or are contemplating having a hysterectomy at such an early age. I wish you all well!

How old is everyone?

Hi, I'm 57 with two grown sons. Had my tubes done about 23 years ago. My "castle" date is May 16 and I'm anticipating having either a LSH or a TVH. Lots of fibroids that have not shrunk following menopause, plus cysts on my no-longer-functional ovaries. Looking forward to getting rid of that heavy, achy feeling, and waiting to see if this will also help circulation in my legs. And, even at my "advanced" age, I have people saying "Are you sure you want to do this?" It would be an easier decision if I were having bleeding or lots of pain (I'm not having either), but, yes, I want to do it, and do it now. I'll never be younger or healthier than I am right now, and I feel like all of that stuff is just hanging around inside me, waiting to go bad.

How old is everyone?

I'm 29. I have a two year old son who is the love of my life. My mother in law is trying to convince me not to have the surgery b/c she wants more biological grandchildren. She can just back off because she's being selfish and rude! I remember when I told her I was pregnant, and she got upset b/c she felt she was too young to be a grandmother!

Seriously, I did grieve the loss of my ability to have my own children a little, but giving birth is not the only way to have my own children. I totally plan on adopting in the future.

I am totally with you! I have a 5 year old son who is adopted. He IS MY OWN! Most folks I know, (myself included) don't have perfect genes that just HAVE to get passed along.

Yeah, adoption rocks! I always knew I wanted to adopt, even before I had to make the decision to remove my reproductive organs.

I'm 27 and have no children. I am getting more crap from people than I care to talk about. My husband and I don't ever want children anyways (we decided that before we got married) and have been getting "oh, you'll change your mind" since. I just really want to be pain free and actually get to spend some "quality time" with my husband before he deploys for the war. The doc is being great and fast tracking me to ensure that we get in before deployment!
