My TVH is scheduled for 4/17/07. My doctor said I'll be getting an epidural for the first two days- does htis mean they are keeping me awake during the procedure? Also, what should I take to the hospital with me? What should I ask at my pre-op appointment? This was sceduled rather quickly so I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed- you input will be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

I was under general anthesisia, so I don't know about the epidural. Under the pre-op tab, there are questions you should ask your dr. I printed them off and took them with me.

As for things that you will need in the hospital....I found that throat lozenges, chapstick, ear plugs, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush and deod. were the only items I packed that I actually used. I wore the hospital gown as I was in only overnight.

Best wishes to you

I had an epidural when I had my TAH/BSO they placed it when I was taken into the OR... it was for pain control I was then put under general anesthesia, but they said they would start the pain meds in my epidural before they took me off anesthesia so I would not wake up in pain it worked great! I had fentenyl in my epidural. My surgery was on Friday am and they weaned me off the epidural Sunday am and started me on oral meds before I was finallly taken off in time to go home early Sunday afternoon. I did get really itchy from the fentenyl and they said that was typical so they gave me benadryl every 3 hours while I was on it, that also helped me to sleep better. Hope that helps.

Hello fellow 4-17-07 Sister!
I also went to the pre-op tab and printed out the list of questions, I am taking them to pre-op with me tomorrow along with my own list of additional questions. I have also followed many sisters advice on this site about what to pack (yes- I have already packed - anyone who knows me would not be surprised -- I am one of those anal type people about stuff like that - ) I have more stuff in my bag for DH than for me, I have jammies, chapstick, grannie panies, and socks ( I get cold toes all the time).
Best Wishes to you!
God Bless
