More experienced sisters out there?

That's three or four of us I think! Either there is a nation-wide post-hyst virus or maybe it is normal! I have had low back pain, frequent urination, and total diarrhea for 4 days now - felt good over the weekend. Maybe we can get one of the more experienced sisters to let us know if we are all normal? That would be good to know for sure. I will say that I have felt better just knowing others have the same symptoms! (Not that misery loves company ) - just that maybe it's not to worry about. I think maybe our remaining inards are angry at us??? I see urologist in AM for urinary problems.

thanks for posting!! It does help to hear others are also experiencing the same (although I'm sorry you are) Mostly I see the bowel issues posted are constipation rather than diarrhea. I called my dr today and she said to try a very blan diet or 'brat' diet for the next day or so to see if that helps......

DC4ever you're like the 3rd person who said they did good until the 5th day. I'm on my 7th day and have felt horrible since yesterday. I don't have the diarreah, I've got constipation. I don't know what would be worse. I almost passed out earlier trying to use the restroom. I have to take a trip to Austin tomorrow which is about 3 1/2 hrs away and the thought of trying to ride in a car is seriously stressing me out.
One of the problems with this surgery is damage to your bowel and I wonder how I would know if there is a problem. I guess we just have to stick it out. Maybe you should eat alot of cheese ......

day 5 sounds ominous

Hi everyone, I had my LTAV and pelvic floor repair on friday the 13th. Yes, did anyone else have the date? Anyways, I had a UTI yesterday and am now on antibiotics, but other than that, I feel really good. too good. I am still taking pain meds however. I think I might try and hold off tomorrow to see if I am not in touch with my body (or possible pain) because of them. It will be day 7 tomorrow. After no BMs the first 4 days, I had diariha yesterday and today I am constipated again. Well, I quess I'm writing because I wonder why I'm feeling so good and am worried that strangely enough, if I'm heading for trouble down the line.

Take it easy

Sally - I would just take it very easy. I felt as you said "too good" for the first few days. This is day 7 and I really felt crummy today. Went back on the pain meds and stayed in bed. I hope more than anything you continue to feel good because it is pretty disheartening to feel so good for several days and then slip backwards and feel bad. I think I would rather just feel bad from the get go but I am feeling a little better tonight so I am counting my blessings.

Take it easy and hope you heal wonderfully.

Today is day 8. My best day so far. I got up and got my youngest off to school and layed back down for about another 2 hours of good sleep. Then I woke up, I was prepared to stay in bed longer but I really felt refreshed and got up. I took my dog for a walk, about 2 blocks of strolling around the neighborhood. I have overdone it with walking a few days ago so I didn't want to go too far. I sat for a while and rested and then decided I FELT LIKE COOKING! I haven't cooked a real meal (other than frozen pizzas and stuff) since being home. I made chicken spaghetti, green beans, crescent rolls (from a can!) and a really nice fruit salad all from fresh fruit. I had all this complete and ready for our dinner by 3:00. I was so surprised by my accomplishment that I called my sister and my mom and invited them over for dinner at 6:00. Around 3:00 I started having some cramping (that is my sign that I need to go rest, it goes away though with rest). I went and layed down for a good nap, but I wasn't sleepy. I layed down until 5:30 and got up to get ready for dinner. We all had a good meal and lots of laughs, which still hurt my tummy! I told them to stop making me laugh. It was good to laugh after being so depressed earlier this week. I had to pull my pants down after dinner and show off my battle wounds on my belly. I have a HUGE 6 in x 2 in black bruise from the laparoscope plus my incisions. My sister was impressed! My bleeding has just about completely stopped, just some pinkish brownish clear discharge. I felt great today but have to remind myself that I start cramping when I am on my feet too long. I am a RN who works 13 hour shifts on my feet. I had planned to go back in 3 1/2 weeks, HA HA HA!!!! I feel like I need to take the full 6 weeks. I can't imagine being on my feet 13 full hours, even after 6 weeks. Maybe I can sweettalk our charge nurse and get easy patients so I can rest in between. I can take off until May 21 if I need to, but I told everyone I would be back around the 2nd week of May. Some other girls at work have had LAVH and talk about such a speedy recovery and coming back within 3 weeks. I just don't want to be compared to them, we all recover differently and I am sure all our "stuff" inside are different and our surgeries were different. I had a lot of endo so I am thinking my doc had to do a lot of snips here and there to get it all, plus I lost an ovary, if I get any extra credit for that!

LAVH 4/11/07 - kept 1 ovary

pain meds cover up alot

Robinrn, glad to hear you are doing better.
I didn't take my pain meds until bed time yesterday and had a whole new appreciation for what my body was feeling. My husband insists that the doctor gave me those pills because I am suppose to take them until they are gone and to keep ahead of the pain. He also tells me to sit down and "do nothing" when I've been up and moving around too much. Quite bossy! Anyways, I don't know for sure, if I should be taking the pain meds or not. I have to say, life is brighter with them, pain free,etc........but I quess I worry that I'm not in touch with my body. Any thoughts on this out there?

Sally, the point of the pain meds is to stay ahead of your pain. It is alot harder to get your pain under control then to keep it there. I wouldn't necessarily say to take them all but you definitely need them now. We had our surgeries on the same day and if I don't take mine at 4 hours (like when I'm sleeping and sleep a bit too long) I pay for it for at least an hour. If your body is in pain then it is concentrating on the pain and not healing which is very exhausting. You need to keep it under control. When I read your post earlier about backing off, I started to warn you but if you are anything like me, you have to find out for yourself......;. I hope you have learned you lesson ;o)

incision pain

Today is post-op day 9 and the last couple of days am having increasing incision pain over left abdominal "keyhole" (had LAVH). It pulls badly when I move in bed and I feel like passing out when I sneeze! Also, the skin is very sensitive from the incision right over to the midline of my belly, can't stand to touch it. The incision itself looks fine, no redness and it is almost all healed but it does have a hard lump under the skin. I did strain that area last Sunday when I laughed too hard(and peed my pants, lol) Is it possible I did something? Doesn't hurt too much when I am sitting still but rolling in bed woke me up several times last night due to pain. Otherwise I feel great! Just a little more tired than usual but have been taking it easy. Anyone else feeling like this? Robinrn, glad you are feeling better and the rest of you, too!
Have a great day!
