Estradiol/Climara Patch HELP

Right after surgery, the doctor put a climara patch on my thigh. I change it once weekly.
My problem is that it stays on perfect for the first day but by day 2 or 3, it starts coming off. I use surgical tape to keep it on but that starts coming off as well .

Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice what to do?

I am afraid that after 3 days, I am not getting the dose i should be.

Estradiol/Climara Patch HELP

Hi Lisa!

I'm sorry that you're having problems keeping your patch stuck. If they aren't sticking properly, they aren't as effective and that can cause you to have more symptoms than you would if it were sticking properly.

Are you using brand name Climara patches or did you get generic patches? Some women do well on the generics but many have problems keeping them stuck and do much better on the brand name.

The directions say to apply the patches to the abdomen or on the rear so I'm not sure why your doctor would apply it to your thigh.
Apply the sticky side of the Climara patch to a clean, dry area of the
lower stomach below your belly button or the top of the buttocks
(, page 2)

Be sure your skin is clean, dry and free of all lotions, oils and powders. I apply my new patch before I bathe because that's when my skin is driest. I put the patch where it's not going to be rubbed excessively by clothing and where it's not going to be creased or twisted by movement. For me, the perfect place is on my rear or hip and I alternate from side to side when I change patches. You don't want to alternate from front to back because that can cause fluctuations of the hormone levels. There is about a 20% increase in the absorption rate when patches are worn on the rear.

Sometimes I rub the area where I'm going to put my patch with a little rubbing alcohol and allow it to dry and other times I skip that step. My patch stays stuck either way. Be sure to hold down the patch with the palm of your hand after you apply it and make sure you press down the edges so they are sealed tightly. If it happens to come loose on the edges, you can try blasting it with some warm air from a hair dryer and then pressing it down with your palm again.

If all of that fails, you could try to keep your patch on using a Tegaderm patch or Nexcare Waterproof bandage applied over the estrogen patch. You can purchase either without a prescription at a drug store or even online. If you don't want to try that option, you can let your doctor know of the troubles you are having. Some will rewrite the prescription so that the patch can be changed more frequently. Or, you may want to opt for a patch which is changed every 3 1/2 days such as Vivelle Dot. I'm using Vivelle Dot and it sticks really well.

I hope these tips help!

Estradiol/Climara Patch HELP

Thank you.
I am going to call my doctor on Monday.
The instructions do say to put them on my rear or belly but for some reason, the hospital put it on my thigh and then alternated the following week. I am just following what they did. But I will ask him directly what I should do.

Thanks again for the advice.
