Melish - I've been back at work since last week Monday. Just try to take it easy at work and when you get home try to take it easy there also. I have left work a little early last week a couple of days.

Melish and Soccerchic, I understand it is perfectly normal to be exhausted after working at four weeks. I think those of us with vaginal hysterectomies forget, because we have no external scars, but we have many, many, many cuts and stitches inside of you. My surgery itself was a little more complicated than most, because of my anatomy, but my nurse told me that I had over 100 stitches inside of me. I have to think you guys have lots and lots too.

Was it your choice to go back to work so soon? My doc said he'd release me for part-time, but I am supposed to ease back into my routine, not jump in with both feet. Is there a chance to cut back?

Also, nausea is a common result of a body being stressed (think of what it is like to run a long ways if you aren't used to it).

I had to get back to work! My buddies at work missed me & I didn't want to cut into my vacation time. My doctor told me 5 weeks, I negotiated 4. I am in front of the computer all day behind a desk with my heating pad. Everyone has been great at work getting me things. I wish I could stay home the whole 6 weeks. My DH hasn't been much help the past 2 weeks at home anyway, so why stay there & be tempted by dust bunnies!!!

I'm a teacher (although you couldn't tell it by my message above --- I MUST force myself to proofread!) so when I go back, I'll be on my feet for seven hours straight each day. On a concrete floor. So, I'm going to take the full six weeks.

Or maybe I'll sit in my rolling chair and let the kids push me from one place to another!

Shantra:

I am on Climara and it works like a charm. As history, I was given the shots of Lupren three months prior to my surgery to stop my periods and shrink the uterus. Basically, chemical menopause. I went through ALL the symptoms - no fun for sure. Doc slapped a patch on me the day after surgery and it was like night and day. I hope you find the same kind of relief. Hugs!

I had my TAH BSO on April 23rd and I am starting to feel much better. No hrt yet. So far no symptoms. I hope it stays that way. Finally I am starting to get some good quality sleep. And I can sleep without the abdominal binder on. The tenderness with my stomach is much better. I still get tired easy, though. Dr. says my blood is still low even though I am taking iron pills. They tell me it takes a few months for the blood to replenish itself. I did a lot around the house yesterday. Probably more than I should have. Ended up taking a nap at 3 and didn't get up til 6pm. I have to be careful about bending down and then standing up. I get really dizzy if I stand up fast. I end up holding onto something until it passes.

I still wonder if I'm going to have to end up on hrt? So far no real hot flashes to speak of. Maybe with some people it takes time. I don't know. Seems like everyone else here is on hormones. I think my dr. said that if I ever had to take something, she would start me on Premarin. But how do you know what hormone to start on? There are so many, with so many different side effects. The thoughts of trying a dozen different hrt's to get to the right one isn't that appealing.

My dr. talked to me about the Lupron shots in the beginning, but she told me it would take time and I was bleeding quite a bit. I was told Ablation had a 50/50 chance of working and that with Embolization you often have to have two treatments, or more. If I weren't so anemic at the time I might have given some other option a chance. But everything turned out ok. Now if I can just stay away from those hormones I'll be fine. Does our body really need the hormones even though we feel fine? Anybody know? I am 44 and didn't have a chance to go through natural menopause. I was told it would be a good idea to take Calcium with vitamin D. And I'm going to ask my primary dr. if I can have a bone density test. It's so good to start feeling like myself again. I know it's going to take more time, but at least I feel the beginning of feeling good. I don't feel as depressed as I did. I hope this is a permanent thing.

I'm lucky. I still have more time off. But then again I had another surgery the same day they did the hysterectomy. My gallbladder was infected and had to come out.

I had my cysto yesterday, i have a constriction in my left ureter and they placed a stint. Will see if this increases the kidney function, if so they will do some repair work, and if not ...well I'm not real clear on what then...I didn't get to talk to the doctor...just repeating what he told my hubby and my mom.. I feel pretty crappy today...lots of UTI symptoms, but he put me on an antibiotic and pyridium..so I assume this is to be expected. I would have never guessed 7 weeks ago that I would have been going through first a hysterectomy...including ovaries....now kidney problems.....what is next.

Hey Luvs2Quilt- I am not on any hormones yet-my Dr and I agreed to take the wait and see approach. I was having hot flashes, memory problems, fatigue etc for many years before this so I'm hoping I will not need anything! Guess time will tell! So far so good!
