Anyway, I'm now 13 days post-op (TAH) and the Guts are behaving themselves reasonably well (tho' I'm still drinking Lactulose 3 times a day and am getting very tired of prunes). The worst thing at the moment is being unable to drive - am walking for about half an hour at a time round the fields behind the village and the dog's getting as bored as I am! I was very stiff & sore all over for the first few days but that improved once I got home and could move around more. Also found I had to ditch the painkillers after a few days as they were giving me headaches, but apart from needing to sleep a lot I'm feeling really well; better than I expected, and looking forward to exploring this site for useful tips etc.
Hi Sarah

My name is Bev & i am from Doncaster. I found this site 3 days prior to my operation & it's been fantastic, loas of support & great information. I am 15 days post op
TAH due to multiple large fibroids. I am not doing too bad
sleeping lot's the main thing i am concerned about is the stomach ache that i seem to have constantly & of course
the swely belly which i hope in time will go down. I also
have just above my incision quite a lot of fluid & swelling
i have read other posts from others who have also had this
problem. I will see how it goes & will contact the Doctor if it doesn't improve

Keep in touch

Bev xx

CLEANING??? Aaaagh!!!! My main philosophy on life is that it's too short for housework - and I intend to make the most of the best excuse ever for not doing any!

Hi! Thank you for your response! It was so nice! Don't get me wrong, though, I still hurt some and I know that I need to be walking. I have read where some of our other members are walking 1,2 and 3 miles a day at this point! Good grief, I am terrified that I will walk something or some stitches loose on the inside. It scares me so much!! Have you tried walking yet? I am worrying that I am not doing enough exercise. My MD didn't schedule a 2 week post-op visit; however, due to bladder spasms, I did see him 5 days post-op, and he said I was doing as expected. Just wondering if any one else is walking and how far and how does it feel? Thanks for your input! Poohtie.

I am lucky I can walk to the end of the driveway to get the mail and back without having to sit. And this is from someone who took 3 mile a day walks prior to surgery. Everyone is different and the thing is everyone's surgery and reasons for surgery are different, which play different roles in how everyone feels at the same point. If you have an abdominal incision from an abdominal hyst, as apposed to laproscopic/vaginal, typically, not always depending on circumstances, your healing time is going to be much longer. Try to keep in mind your own set of circumstances and listen to your bodies. It will tell you when you are ready to be up and about again..

Thank you for the advice. I agree. We are all different and had the surgeries for different reasons. I need to stop comparing myself to everyone else, hey! Thanks for such great advice! Poohtie

Hello Sisters
I am getting better each day. I have to remind myself to take it slow.....Even if I feel good.
I ran out of the Percocet and the doctor has perscribed Hyrdocodin/APAP 7.5 -500 whatever that means.

I called for a refill because I still need pain meds at the beginning of the day and at night before bed. Hopefully after this perscription I can start taking over the counter pain meds.

Gas pains are not as bad as they have been consistently taking stool softners, drinking water, prune juice when I can stomach it.

I have been walking every morning. Nothing Strenuous just a nice stroll eating healthy and resting the remainder of the day.

Poohtie.....Well, I had been feeling kind of sorry for myself reading how so many were doing better than me...happy for them but not happy for me LOL. .. and I got to thinking how everyone is different...our ages, our health before surgery, our reasons for surgery, our types of surgeries and how we actually did during surgery. Since it is all so different, our recoveries will be as well. Some are doing better and some have been worse off than I. I am trying to look at all the positives for myself now and just let my body heal and let me know what I can and cannot do, instead of having a pity party. Trying to look at the glass half full... and for everything I am thankful for

My six week mark is the last week of school. I'd really like to be there to say goodbye to the kids. I am able to access my gradebook from home online, so that has been nice. I just did progress reports for my students so the sub didn't have to worry about it. I keep up with staff email, so I don't feel as out of the loop as I could.
I teach 3rd grade then loop up the next year to teach 4th. I am thankful for email so I can keep up with what is going on. I am blessed to have an awesome staff. They brought dinners for me and my family all last week.

I have my masters in Instructional Leadership and will take my final principal's test in June. I'll be reading through case studies while I sit.

I haven't done any major walking. I pulled my son in his wagon for a loop around the church parking lot next door and that was a kinda tough. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I guess I'll ask him how much walking I should be doing. I joined Curves in December and don't know when I can go back.
