Recovery and BM's

I have to agree with taking the time to heal...I had my SAH on 5/3. It has been hard for me as I am not one to sit still, but I found things to do while sitting that I have not been able to get to when I could move. It will be 4 weeks on Thursday, and although I am nowhere near 100%, I am feeling better every day. I did not take any pain meds since I was in the hospital due to other issues I have but found it bearable if I didn't move. I am thinking maybe since I could feel everything it made me rest as I couldn't take the pain meds to make it better?? Not sure since I am in no one elses shoes. I don't usually have a high tolerance for pain so I don't know. I do know that I was scared to do anything to hurt myself and cause more problems and possibly more surgery. I really feel it is worth it to just rest and not regret taking time for myself to heal as much as possible. I want to get better and start living again, healthy, and not make things worse. I have taken 2 half mile walks with DH. It was hard but I feel it helped to get things moving and more circulation they say means faster healing. Don't get me wrong, I still have my issues and some pain, but I do think the break has been beneficial to my recovery.
As far as those with BM problems. I have been constipated my whole life. Tried everything natural and what the doctor recommended. I didn't want to become dependent on Laxatives or stool softners. I decided to try 100% STONEGROUND WHOLE WHEAT BREAD (read it somewhere or something LOL). I have to say it has been a Godsend. I have 2 slices a day in any way I can whether it is a sandwich or toast etc. I also drink a lot of water like many but it never helped on its own. If you are desperate enough to get things moving, I suppose its worth a try. Helped me within a day or 2 and I NEVER miss it, as when I have I would have problems again, so I know it is the bread doing the trick. I think I will repost the BM part on its one, hope it will help someone.
I hope everyone takes it easy and cares for themselves...I hope all are doing well
Hugs...

Hi Bev,
I read your other post about the feeling of bricks, I say bowling balls . I have had that since day one and it is finally feeling just a little better. I am not a doctor, but for me I think it feels like it is the swelling and from gravity pulling. I find it is worse at the end of the day and if I am up a lot. Seems the more I rest and lay around the better it is. Is yours better in the morning or is it bad all the time? Mine is not so bad when I first get up that is why I try to rest as much as possible. Listen to your body and what it tells you. That is what I have been doing and it has so far worked for me. If you are really concerned ask your Doctor and remember everyone is different and heal at a different rate. I went in for my post Op on Saturday and I could hardly walk. After I got the steri strips off it felt better as it didn't feel like my skin was pulling anymore, and I could stand a bit straighter, so I am guessing the strips made it feel worse for me. I have been walking a bit better since then. I feel a lot better but I am still going to take it easy as I don't want to be fooled and undo this progress. It seemed in a moment I was better, but from reading here I have found that is typical and then people think they are better and over do. I hope you feel better soon. Yes, hang in there we will get through this..
hugs...

Hopefuldaybyday, I am on the patch, estradiol generic for Climara and it is working great. They put it on my several hours after my surgery and I haven't had any menopause symptoms. Actually my moods are better than ever. I don't know if its relief from the surgery(TAH, and pelvic floor repair) or the patch. I think I might try a more natural way after I've completely healed.
I am almost 4 weeks post op and everything was going great until Sunday. I drank margaritas Saturday night and spent the holiday weekend eating a bunch of junk and nows I'm constipated. Had to start taking stool softners again. Otherwise I feel great.
I hope everyone has a great day.

Hi Girls,
Just back home from my appt with Dr. I am at 3 weeks and 5 days. He ssaid all things look great. I can start driving. But not to anywhere I have to pick anyting up!! Left side internal stitches achey a bit today.. he said that is normal. Not releasing me back to work until I see him again on the 19 th of June. Yow!! Now I have to tell my Sgt. that.
Oh well he knows that once I start back to work it will be non stop.
So I 'm driving and allowed to start walking.
Yea!! Steri strips are still attached.

Now I'm worried because this is a pretty big gap between appointments.

I still get wiped out easily so will lay in bed a few hours on those days. I'm still spotting, but I'm finding it's usually a yellowish color and a lot of times it's when my bladder is full or I'm laughing (while holding between my belly button and pelvic area LOL) Once in a blue moon it'll be light pink. Bowel movements *were* ok, then got tricky again so I got the generic Colace and it did a number on my stomach and I'm hoping I didn't pop any stitches. I get sharp pains from time to time that make me re situate myself - or gasp. ;-( All in all I think I'm doing ok tho. :-)
Hi,
I had my post Op at week 3. I did have my staples out after 1 week, but that was all he did on that visit. Now I go back in 3 weeks at my 6 week point. I suppose every doctor may do it different or maybe it depends on what was done??

I don't know about the spotting but I did just post a suggestion about eating 100% Stone Ground Whole Wheat Bread being the only thing that has helped me with constipation. I had tried everything and eating 2 slices of that a day has been a godsend for me...Hope you feel better soon..

GOSPREY, you mentioned your Sgt.; are you in law enforcement? I am and am wondering how Im ever going to get that duty belt back on! Im not looking forward to going back to graveyard either.....

Im at 4 weeks today and feel generally pretty well. Little discomfort daily, rolling around in bed with a tweak here and there, not wearing out as quickly. I only saw my Dr 1 week post op for staple removal and have been on my own since. Go for 4.5 week exam this Thursday and hope she tells me I can get back to some old activities.

I find it amazing how we are all so similar but different. Ive been off pain meds for nearly 2 1/2 weeks, had only a minor discharge the first week and am pretty much pain free and back to myself (other than swelly belly). Other sisters are far behind or even ahead in recovery; arent our bodies amazing?

Be well, sisters!

Hello sisters!

Just returned from my 4 week check. I am cleared to return to work unrestricted on the 11th of June - which is good. I actually stopped at work and there were things that should have been dealt with weeks ago - oh well. I had bright red spotting last week so my DR did a full exam - ultrasound and all - good results - no problems. Probably overdid last week causing a few stitches (internal) to break. He said they are at their weakest right now soto be VERY careful the nesxt 2 weeks. Pretty much no lifting over 10# - I can garden, drive, light housework, with in reason. I am hoping to carch up on my scrapbooks before I return to work. I can walk (have been 3 miles) for the next 2 weeks then can resume normal workout/run.

My DR had me do a bowel prep before surgery - his nurse thinks that is a reason his surgeries are so successful. Anyone else do a bowel prep?
