This is my first post and I am sorry It has to due with constipation.

I ended up in the emergency room a week ago. I had a UTI and minor constipation. I couldn't understand the constipation because I was going everyday. It seems just not enough everyday. I so understand your agony over the constipation. Best of Luck to you.

To Sarah:

You should really contact your doctor. I wonder if you might have a seroma that has no way of draining? That is a pocket of fluid that gets under the skin (or in some layer of it). This happens alot with people who have abdominal surgery, and if that is it, your doctor would need to know as you run a risk of infection (got one, was not fun). Let us know how it turns out.

Sarah, I am 4 weeks po today and I have been having the same thing, little twinges around the incision and a little lump pops out. I think it may be gas because when I took a pill for it it seemed better. I also got a urinary tract infection 2 weeks ago and they said it is cleared up now but I was dehydrated so I have to drink lots more liquids. Always something. I am going to work today at the library for about an hour to help out my replacement with story hour. I think that will be good enough. What I was wondering is if everyone sleeps on their side yet. I haven't seen any info on it and it feels comfortable but when I wake up sometimes have twinges. No one said I couldn't so just wondering. Have a great day and hope everyone is on the road to recovery. Yvonne

Yvonne,
I was 4 weeks post op last Thursday. I have been sleeping on my sides...almost normally for about a week. Before that I was sleeping on my side during the 3rd week but it was harder to turn over . Before that I don't think I was on my side too much at all unless I was wearing the brace so it held everything still. Doctor never said not to. Hope this helps...

Thanks

I am relieved. I just never saw anything and dr. never said not to. It felt right so I did . I can go to sleep much easier. I went into work at the library for 2 hrs today. I did a lot of standing and I feel it now. I don't go back again til next monday so I will have two more weeks before I go back permanently. Yvonne

I'm a side sleeper also.. have been doing it with a pillow to hug in the front. They actually helped me to do it whenI was in the castle. Proping me with pillows in the front and the back. I find myself in the morning flat on my back.. that is when I give those tummy muscles a gentle morning stretch.. it is my way to tell how things feel down there.
Thank God for you girls!

Hi All
Well I went back to work last night from 7 to 11. I dont think I have been on my feet for that long since the surgery. By the time I came home I was sore but not unbearable. The girls I worked with helped with pushing the med cart and I mostly walked. I didnt pick anyone up. Woke this morning and I am a bit stiff. I think my mistake was I should have taken Motrin before I went to work. I will do that today. I hope everyone is feling good today.!!

I'm allergic to plastic bandaids and medical tape etc.. so they are actually suggesting that I may be allergic to my sutures? and that they may need to go in and take them out. The nurse I've been going to each day said she's heard of that happening? Anyone hear of that before? Other things I'm trying>....Discovered I'm only consuming half of the protein I should be having (30-35 grams/day) and not eating enough of the vitamins and minerals I need so I'll try that. Hubby is getting some protein powder that tastes like iced tea tomorrow so I'll be drinking that on the deck. I've been eating/drinking soy products and other antioxidants too. Not driving cars or riding my hubby yet. I believe I need to wait a bit for that anyway.
When will I get better? arrrggg. Frustrated but not losing my eye on the prize of feeling better. My son is in Kindergarten and asked if I'd feel any better by the time he gets into grade 2. I said I certainly hope so, yes.
Kids-I know I feel guilty that I still can't do what I want to do with them. We play cards, do puzzles, art, painting, read books but I just wish I could do more. I know they are resiliant little kids, (hubby broke his neck this year and is now recoverred) but it's a lot to put on them. My oldest was comparing daddy and mommy's recovery times. Youngest son's birthday is coming up and I was getting concerned. I'm a former teacher and have had the best parties for them in the past. I've come to realize that it's not going to happen next week and I'll just have to enlist friends to take a station, so to speak. I'm getting better at asking for help. Maybe it's a good experience for me to go through as a traditional type a personality. I don't need to be supermom. How many times can I say it out loud?
Shar in Canada-getting antsy with recovery-bored of crocheting-wishing I could drink sangria right now on my deck! Right after my 35grams-6 glasses of soy milk!!! yuck.
Hope every one else is doing good.
I have been having trouble with getting enough protein as well and have discovered a low fat high protein cultured milk smoothie that has 14 grams protein per 1 cup. Only 174 calories, 3g fiber, 2g fat and made with organic cane juice for sweetening. Look at Publix in the healthfood refrigerated section for LIFEWAY Lowfat Kefir in plain, strawberry, capuccino, peach, plain, raspberry, blueberry, vanilla and pomegranate. I drink a cup of this every morning. It is also loaded with probiotics which help keep normal bacteria balanced in your intestines. I absolutely LOVE this product! Give it a try. Let me know!

Thank you very much. I will try it out. I also found a meal replacement formula with 15 grams of protein that my system was able to tolerate. But I like the probiotics emphasis on what you suggested. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks so much.

To tcp45324

Thanks for the suggestion - not sure if it is a seroma as there's no real swelling, just a sort of lumpiness, & it doesn't feel fluidy, but it's something I hadn't thought of. I've started taking ibuprofen as an anti-inflammatory & it's a bit less obvious today, but I'll definately go & see my doctor if it doesn't settle down in a day or two. Thanks again!
