Had an appt. today

I love having a doctor that knows what he's doing and supports me!!! I am only 29 but do have three children. We do not want anymore (had complications with all three pregnancies and it would be too much of a risk to myself and a baby). Up until this point hysterectomy was never given to me as an option b/c of my age alone. My doctor now (who I have been seeing since last year) has been so supportive. He agreed that yes, at 29 it's not what they would like to do but that he also takes into consideration my life plans and where I am at in them. He agrees the pain is to a point now (continuously daily) that theres no need to make me suffer through the lupron and returning pain if that isn't what I want. We went over all of my questions about the surgery and at a relaxed pace (he didn't rush me out which I really appreciate).

I go back Friday morning for an ultrasound to see how the ovaries are looking and then to sit down with him again. He hopes to leave at least one but we'll go into the surgery understanding that if he needs to take them both then it will be done. I should hopefully have a surgery date set up this week. I feel relieved that I can see a light at the end of this tunnel but nervous and depressed all at the same time. I have no one around me who understand what I'm going through and if it wasn't for this board I would be completely lost!!! Oh.. and what would the abbreviation for a vaginal hysterectomy w/ laproscopic assistance w/ possible oophectomy be???? hahah.. I'd hate to try and abbreviate that one by myself!!! Thank you ladies!!!!

LAVH -- laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy
RSO/LSO -- right/left salpingo oophorectomy

You can read about the various acronyms here: Hyst Types.

I am glad you have a doctor with whom you feel comfortable. Will you be seeing a second opinion as well?

I wish you the best and hope you have been able to read through the Endometriosis Resources to help you with your discussions with your doctor(s) prior to your surgery i.e. how will the endo be excised, what about HRT if there you do have a BSO, will you need to use progesterone to treat any microscopic endo, what if there is endo on the bowel or bladder, etc.

Take care and keep us posted!

I feel very comfortable with all the questions I had which most of which he answered before I had to ask them. I have seen several doctors about this over the years (I believe it has been 7 involved throughout this). The other OB/GYN I had been seeing had mentioned the possibility of it coming to a hysterectomy but never discussed it further with him b/c the practice I was with was so large that when I was having abnormal bleeding (and I mean heavy and 7 weeks straight) last August they told me I couldn't get in for a follow up appt until DECEMBER!!!! That's when I went on my search for an Endo specialist that wouldn't treat me as a number. I am feeling good about the decision we are making just wish there was someone in my personal life who had a clue what I was going through. Ya'll are as close as I'm getting so you can't believe how happy I am that I found this site! Thanks again fro your support!
