Day 17

[font=Lucida Sans Unicode]Well as lomg as I stay sitting or laying down with a heating pad on my side all is finr, the pain is not as bad. I spent most of today asleep since I was so worked up and upset over the doc appointment.

I was wanting to try and get a fathers day picnic together for all the wonderful fathers in our family , Maybe I can get my aunt to help. I have mised seeing my family over the past 3 weeks. I have to feelbetter soon, I have family from Cali and Oregon comming in for a week or two to see my kids and dad. Plus we are having a suprise party in July for my husband and BIL...their cousin is driving in from Michigan to see them, It would be great if I could join in the fun!

I am off to bed now, hmaybe I will get the sleep needed. Sending to all my sisters!

It's been over 3 weeks now and still not feeling great

I had my surgery on the 23rd of May and have been home really resting except for a few times that I drove to a store close by to get just 'a few things' and I was so wiped out that I have just given in to the fact that I will really be away from work for another couple of weeks. I am on a really strange sleeping schedule and quit taking the Ambien because it made me more anxious than actually helping me sleep after the first week. I think it is really addictive in a wierd way. My pain is lessened but I am still really tired and keep wondering if this is normal. I am taking ibuprofen and then taking vicodin when the pain is too much for just ibuprofen. I thought I'd feel better by now...am I crazy or does this really take a long time to heal???

Hi girls,

I had my TAH on May 23 and can tell I am getting better with my movement. I have two questions for you all. 1. Is the incision spot suppose to be all bumpy underneath and will that eventually go away?? and 2. My belly is still swelly, (and depressing me a bit) will that go away or at least get better?? Not that I had a flat stomach before, but I thought I'd be better by this time in my recovery. I'm getting really tired wearing my biggest shorts in this heat wave we're having here.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Jen, I had a tah too on the same day, my incision is bumpy and raised. I dont remember it being like that after my c-section, but i couldnt even see my tummy because i was still so big for so long. I hope it goes away, my stomach is still a little swelly, and i had a flat tummy before the surgery. i fing it gets bigger at night after doing too much and being on my feet all day. My biggest problem now is hormone issues. I was up all night with night sweats and anxiety. Horrible. I was hopping i could get through this without estrogen, but i think i am going to start my estridol pills later. I want the vivelle dot that eveyone raves about, but my insurance wont cover, only climara. good luck, feel better!!!

Hi All
I had my TAH on May 23rd and my incision is bumpy too. I'm sure that will all smooth out over time.
Mariposa - I found that the more I do physically, that I get tired. Listen to your body and if you need rest then give yourself permission to rest. I do feel more couped up in the house and have been trying to get someone to go with me to the mall and walk around to get some exercise in. It's too hot here to walk outside (110 degrees that past two days). My doctor told me walking is very good for me but to take it easy and pay attention to what my body is telling me.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and hang in there. I know we're getting fed up with the healing process but we'll be through this before you know it.
Take care
Darlene

Hi, Girls,
I also had a TAH on 5/23, & I called the nurse about my lumpy incision. She said it is very normal, & could last 8-10 weeks!!! I know you don't want to hear that, but, think how long we all suffered before we made the plunge, & how much better the end result will be!!! I've also read that the swelly belly could go on for months!!! Sorry to be such a downer - I look at my incision & swelly belly as my badges of courage for going through what a lot of women should do, but are putting it off because of fear or whatever. Wear them proudly ladies!!!
I know in my case, I had a bigger swelly belly before surgery because of my enlarged uterus & fibroids, but, at the time, I didn't know what is was. Just thought I was getting the "middle-aged spread". Now, at least I have a reason for it. We will have a lot of time to work on our lovely 6-pack abs later =
I'm so grateful to be on the other side of all of this!!! It feels great!!!!
Hugs to all !!!
As long as we have all this going on, let's use it to get pampered as we should be !!!

Also, I have to say I was scared to go on the estradiol, but I did it the day after surgery & feel great!! Good luck!!

Had a long night. Hot flashes galore leaving me drenched in bed. The cologne I had put on made me feel nauseous when it mixed with sweat! I had done a lot and the swelly belly reared it's ugly head as I went to bed. Other than that, the energy levels are coming back (again!), and I'm on a huge level of Levoquin for the UTI, which I'm pretty sure I did have. DH had these test strips which showed a lot of blood and the urine was pretty cloudy. Sorry for the TMI. I did manage to do a lot of walking and to sit through a 3 hour dance recital!

Diverchick, i too was up all night with night sweats, AND panic attacks. It is awful. Are you taking anything for it? Last night was the worst for me too. I was ready to get up and shower at 3 am, but have a house full of family over today for DH birthday and fathers day. Yep, I am really over doing it. I am glad they got you on something for your infection.
feel better!

Thank You for all your support and encouragement. We are all brave for taking this action in our lives and the worst is behind us! For all of you struggling with sleep, I know that for me taking Ativan helped. I however kept my overies so maybe sleep issues have more to do with having menapausal symptoms. Hang in there!

Does anyone have any good tips for getting bowels back on track?? Too much fiber the other day created a lot of painful gas. I am currently taking a stool softener at night and Metamucil wafer in th afternoon. I'm open to any sugestions.

Hi everyone, I am also TAH on 5/23 and I have had a really uneventful recovery.

I started having bowel movements the day after I got home and I have been fine since. I have had bouts of gas here and there but nothing really painful. I am walking a lot and on my feet quite a bit but no lifting yet. I had a problem with my incision (verticle) where the bottom had split open due to my belly pouch. It was just big enough to put pressure on the incision and break it open. As of a couple of days ago it seems to be healed over but I still cannot sit upright very well. It also bothers me at my pant line because they had to cut up through and above my belly button due to the size of my uterus. I have slept through the night every night except for a few when the incision was achy. When I wake in the night I just find the most comfortable position I can get in (with pillows jammed between my knees and my back) and do several really deep slow breaths. That usually puts me right back into Lala land without having to take pain meds. It is amazing what breathing can do. All in all I am happy to say that I have very little to complain about.

I got to keep my ovaries and I am surprised I have not been hit by the surgical menopause that people have described. I've had the sweats a couple of times but it has been hot here in New England this past week and I think it was the weather.

My worst probelm now is being aggrivated at having to lay down still. I have had days where I wake up in pain and ache all day so I am down with that. I am sick of being down in such nice weather and sick of my belly being swelled like crazy. It grosses me out sometimes.

Does anyone else ache really badly in their incision when it is raining and cool out???

Oh yah, some of you are talking about fiber. I have been eating apples which are really good fiber. They have made a HUGE difference with my bowels. I really notice it when I don't have one a day.
