I also had my 4 week post op appointment today, and everything is looking good. Infection has healed up nicely, and although tummy is still very sore, doctor said that is to be expected after the type of surgery and it will take a while to recover. I was a bit nervous about the exam, mainly having him touch my stomach, but no problem...his bedside manner is terrific. Discussed vitamin supplements to combat hotflashes, insomnia, etc., and will step up the regimen I was taking prior to surgery. Since I can't take HRT, the natural supplements will have to do. The past two nights I have had better sleeps, so I am staying optimistic.

Today I had the most energy since surgery, but did find mental lapses in conversations...very embarrassing. Hopefully that will diminish right along with my swelly belly!

Just One, God has a plan for all of us, and He always shows the way, even though it may not seem like it at the time. You are in my thoughts and prayers, and know something good will come out of this.

Ok everyone, on to week 5....yahoo!

thanks so much for your report. My doc too is very, very good and I am certainly blessed to have her watching out for my health.

I have had good energy today too. The 40 mi one way to my doc didn't exhaust me and I am still functioning at 8pm. I am feeling good except for the sleep. So I found some relaxation stuff I had saved on my computer and loaded it onto my mp3 player. Here's praying for another good night's sleep.

Yeahhhhhhhh.....onto week 5 (after I make it through week 4) and I will just like all of you will too!

Good night, friends!!

Luvdabeach: the spotting I had (which you have also so aptly described) was due to a urinary infection from the cath. inserted during surgery. If you have no infection, maybe you just can't push recovery any faster than your angels can fly! Pamper pamper pamper! Hug.

Well, I had my 4 week yesterday. I really dont know what color my light was but is wasnt green--but not red either. I can walk, I can start to lift weights, but only very, very light ones. I can go back to work 1/2 days and build up to full days (which was my plan starting on monday)

As for Sex, (the reason my husband came with me to my appt) we can kind of have sex! YEP kind of - only an inch. till my next appt. 4 weeks away! should have seen the look on my DH face. I guess I have to laugh, only because much more than that would scare me right now. So I called my best friend (hubby & her get along great!) and told her about it so she can give him a hard time about it for the next month.

My internal exam really suprised me, I have left the doc after every exam in tears for the last 15 years! and yes it hurt when he bumped my incestion, but the exam did not!! I was so happy, I almost cried anyway. I guess it was the first time I have been really OK with the decision to have surgery. I am 32, and even though, my DH and I were not planning on more childern, now that I dont have the ability to has been very dificult for me. I think my doc appt might have been my turning point. I can honestly say, I am so thankful, to finally not be in pain, EveryDay! I know waking up from surgery I was in less pain then the day prior to or the year prior too. I guess I have just been dwelling on the negative (which is not like me) and I forgot the positive.-- I am glad to finally feel the good side!

Note to sisters, don't try on clothes with swelly belly! I have had an extraordinary busy few days. Know I'm swollen, but decided to try and find an outfit for a wedding....WRONG! It just made me depressed. The tops, looking good, the bottom, not so good. Guess I'll wait a few weeks on that one! Haven't been sleeping well, but I've had a lot of stress, so that adds to it. Feeling pretty good other than that!

hey ladies,
i've been meaning to ask if anyone still has their steri-strips on their incision. I have just started my 4th week (TAH on 5/25) and still have the strips on. I was thinking about taking them off. My doc never really said anything about it, but i have heard that one should wait until they fall off themselves. It does not look like the majority of them are going to fall off anytime soon. Also does anyone put neosporin or anything on their incision?

Hope everyone is doing better. today i feel pretty good with the on and off pain, off and on spotting, and on and off tiredness.... starting to move a little better now. i do walk to get where i need to go but have not done any walking on a treadmill or around the neighborhood. anyone have any suggestion on how much i should be walking? should i start trying to walk miles or a certain length of time just for exercise or therapy?

anyways, just a few questions i keep forgetting to ask. would love to hear others opinions. thanks so much!

Today was a pretty good day. I went grocery shopping today for the first real time since the surgery, it slap wore me out but I enjoyed it. I am having the brain fog thing too. I knew my daughter had a doctors appointment..got the kids up and had them get ready and boom forgot to go. My DH came home and asked what we were doing here. I felt so stupid especailly when I called her Dr. to reschedule for next week. What was I thinking? Is anyone else having problems with having to have a nap every afternoon? If I dont get a nap in I am evil. This is new to me. Well I am off to bed, just wanted to see how everyone else is doing and wish everyone a GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!

Hi, luvdabeach I just wanted to reply really quick. I had my surgery on 5/23 (TAH BSO) and my doctor's nurse told me to remove the steri-strips before my 2-week post op. I was VERY nervous, but she gave me a great hint. Take a shower and let the water fall over the strips (you don't have to get them soaked). Then, use a blow dryer on them. I thought it was to dry them up, but really it just made the adhesive melty and made them easier to pull off. After the first couple, it was fine. I held the blow dryer with one hand and pulled the strips off with the other.

Hope this helps! BTW I did put neosporin on the first couple of days, but once I was sure the incision was closed (i.e., no scabbing), I stopped.

Take care!

I had to call my Doc for something else around the 2 - 2 1/2 week mark, & I mentioned the steri-strips to the nurse. She told me to take them off. Wasn't really a big deal, but my incision did feel a lot better after that. I have been putting vitamin E oil on mine, but I didn't check with my Dr. first. I'd advise you to call your Dr. before doing anything. My instructions when I left the hospital were just to keep the incision dry for 1 - 2 weeks. I don't see the Doc til my 6 week visit, so I feel kinda on my own. Wish I dould have gone back around 2 weeks just to make sure all was o.k.
As far as walking, I'm doing a mile or so & have no problems. Once again, if you're unsure, call your Dr. Each case & each Dr. is so different. Enjoy your weekend!!! Here in Iowa we've gotten about 8 inches of rain in the las 48 hours, so my walking is a little "mushy" LOL !!!

Hi everyone!
Almost 5 weeks for me too! At my Dr. visit he wanted me to wait to have sex until week 8 if I could. I can!!! I am afraid of messing up my stitches and having a sore "yoohoo". I asked him about my belly and how long it would take for it to stop blowing up every afternoon. He said it looked the same as pre-surgery. I thought ok, buckwheat, then why don't the pants I wore to the castle fit (actually they hurt) even though I have lost a few pounds? But I figured he's just a guy, so I will listen to what your Dr.'s tell you guys, hopefully it stops soon. I did manage to wear a pair of jeans last night. The only thing that bothered me was my incisions. I did go back to work last week and by 3:00 monday by belly was sore. Tuesday, I was sore by 11:00. Wednesday, same thing except it kept hurting all evening so I had to use another pain pill. Thursday I left @ 10 and went home to rest because the feeling of pressure while going pee-pee came back, which had left during week 2. I told my family that I am not doing so much any more since I am back to work. I guess they figure 4 weeks is enough time for me to heal so after their "long" days they come home and relax while I do what needs to be done. It drives me nuts! My dad told me to go on strike and I am. It drives me nuts but I can't care. I'll do the dishes and small stuff but no more carrying laundry and stuff that hurts. UUUuggghhh...thanks for letting me vent!!! Anyway, I was REALLY bored so I went back to work but I wish I had waited. My boss is VERY good about all this (a woman) so I am lucky. She wanted me to work half days but I couldn't afford to, I didn't think disability would cover half days. ??? I know a lot of you are bored but try to be glad you are home and comfortable. This weekend I think I will go buy some knitting needles and try to learn how to knit while I watch the dust, dishes and dog hair pile up. I am glad everyone is doing better for the most part! Take care!!!
