A blue spot - on the cervical cuff???

I tried searching for information on this, and was wondering if anyone has heard of this? My background - I had a hysterectomy for cervical cancer (adenocarcinoma in situ) August of 2006. This was my second 4-month checkup since the surgery. The nurse practitioner (or whatever her level is - she is not the regular gyn.) visually saw a blue spot about the size of a peanut - appears to be under the skin near the cervical cuff created from surgery. She does not seem to know what it is and wants my gyn. to take a look. I don't know whether to push things so quickly and get my information back to the gyn. oncologist's office that had performed the surgery, or wait the week for the reg. gyn. to take a look. I just know that this time around has been much harder to "put my fears on the shelf" and wait...
To make matters more difficult, my surgeon has since retired, and his assistant is out on medical leave, so I don't really have anyone at the oncology dept. that is familiar with my records, so it would be like going to someone new.
Am I panicking and should I wait?

A blue spot - on the cervical cuff???

Hi NewSailor,
I looked up alot of variations on blue spot & couldn't come up with anything. I wonder if it could be a vein near the surface or a bruise of some sort on the cervical cuff? Maybe it's a hemangioma, which is a vascular lesion. For your own piece of mind I would say call your Gyne/onc & just tell them what was found. They might have a very easy explanation for it or may want to see you. I hope all goes well. Let us know.

A blue spot - on the cervical cuff???

Hi Bertha,
Thanks for replying. I did some research on the web as well, and did not find anything either. I did call the onc/gyn office and they are going to take a look at the office notes from the visit. So I guess I'll just wait and see. The nurse practitioner did say it could be nothing, but I have to tell you I'm somewhat sensitive as the original diagonosis came out of nowhere as well, and they said then that it was probably nothing. I'm sure I'm just panicking a little - o.k. a lot. We'll see what they say when they call back.

I question anything I don't understand. I am a nurse and I tell my patients always ask if they say something you don't understand. I fully understand your concern.I think everyone here would agree you dd exactly what needed to be done. I hope all is well.
