Diagnosis DUB??

I got my lab order today for presurgery tests. The diagnosis was "Enlarged Fibroid Uterus, Severe DUB, and anemia."

What is DUB? I will ask the doctor, but my appt isn't until the fifth. The anemia diagnosis is old. I don't think he will be able to support that one once the lab work comes back. My hemoglobin count when I gave blood three weeks ago was in the 40's. I used to be anemic though; I've been taking a good vitamin though. Speaking of vitamins, can I take those prior to the surgery?

Diagnosis DUB??

DUB is dysfunctional uterine bleeding. That was the diagnosis I had also after my D&C. and my understanding from my doctor is that vitamins are okay. But you should ask your doctor and ell him exactly which vitamin supplements you are taking.

Diagnosis DUB??

Thanks, Brandy. I've never had functional uterine bleeding.

I'll have to call and ask about my daily vitamin then since I don't see the doctor until the day before surgery. I'm googling DUB now, but I doubt that I'll be surprised.

Diagnosis DUB??

I was wrong. I was surprised. The page said that DUB was diagnosed when the cause was unknown and there were no tumors present. So how could he diagnose enlarged fibroid uterus and severe dub at the same time? Is he covering all basis for the insurance company?

Oh, that HAD sounds good!

I will call the doc Tuesday; that will give me over one full week. I'll also read the bottle and compare the ingredients to the list of vitamins and herbs in the list. I hate to go that long without my vitamin B complex---I get goofy and forgetful. (Okay, more goofy and forgetful!) Maybe I just won't take them next week, and take only the Bcomplex when I feel like I need it.

Diagnosis DUB??

I think that it is definitly something that makes the insurance company approve it faster then if he didn't diagnose it. But in truth it is kind of a catch all term for anyone who doesn't have the normal 5-7 day period with the "normal" flow.

Diagnosis DUB??

i think with just a diagnosis of dub, insurance companies dont approve hysterectomies as quickly. they like to see that hormone treatments have failed and possibly less invasive things like d&c or ablation.

Diagnosis DUB??

I was never told to not take my multivitamins so I never stopped. I like my B complex too.

I think with two myomectomies behind me and documented treatments and checkups since the last one, it probably won't be denied anyway. Mine isn't the emergency situation so many women face, but I don't think even the insurance company could deny it's need.

Oh to please the insurance powers that be....
