Had my 3 week visit last Tuesday after TAH on May 29. Doctor told me to resume all activities except for travel ( because of lifting a suitcase ). He also stated I only need a pap smear once every 5 years.

Very scary..... I know I am not ready for heavy housework at three weeks and am scared to go swimming this soon. I think I will trust my own instincts and waits at least until 6 weeks out. And I will continue to have my pap smear yearly as I have always done.

And to top it all off..... at 2 weeks out Doctor's office called to say pathology report showed cancer and they were referring me to oncologist. During my visit review of my pathology report shows no cancer. Nurse initially read me wrong report results.

Changing doctors....... but feeling great !!!

I know I made the right choice. I'm already feeling better than before.

With that said, I leave for my trip to IL tomorrow. About a 15 hour drive. I'd fly, but I'll be there for a month, traveling all over the state and don't want to take a second mortgage to pay the rental car company! With my husband still out of state, I'll be doing all the driving. I've built extra time in the schedule to make a 3 day trip out of it if need be. I feel pretty much back to normal, except when it comes to lifting. Still not able to lift more than 25 lbs without feeling strained. I'll keep you posted when I get there. I guess I know very soon if I've recovered as much as I think I have!

I am starting to feel back to normal for sure, however, I still have those days that do me in and I am reminded that my body is still is healing. I am back to work and have been for a week and doing pretty much everything I was doing before surgery, aside from lifting things and vacuuming. I mostly just have a pelvic soreness now on occasion and swelly belly at the days end.
I think that this was the best thing that I ever did. I am definitly feeling good about my choice to have this surgery, since even the soreness and swelly belly are not as bad as I felt prior to surgery.
Take care everyone and even if we are feeling close to normal we have to remember that we are still healing/recovering!!

HUGS!!

Echo,
I am so glad to hear from you.
You sound like you are doing wonderful. Glad to see you are back to work.
I do back on July 5th to see the dr. and probably be released to go back to work July 9th. Still having some issues with that but I am calling my supervisor and having a heart to heart talk with her.
Since my surgery I have done some soul searching and found a happy place in my life for myself (not including my dh or ds those are other issues i will post later)
I will be thinking of you and best of luck
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi everyone. I visited my cancer doc yesterday for the final pathology report and he says I'm cancer free. He said no radiation is needed...just a pap in about three months. I'm so relieved. Yes, it certainly was the right decision...the only decision for me to have surgery. It was a necessary evil!! LOL. Although I got knocked on my butt with C-diff for an extra ten days in the hospital I'm feeling stronger everyday. And I'm an old broad....LOL. I've been driving, doing light housework, cooking and doing the stairs several times a day. I don't lift anything too heavy. My only issue right now is called a seratoma...anyone hear of this? The surgeon explained to me yesterday that it's a collection of lymph fluids that collect in empty spaces in the abdomen...where things have been removed...so they are attempting to keep a drain hole open mid-way in my incision for drainage. Besides removing all my parts they removed 27 lymph nodes to check for cancer. All were clean. When the fluid builds up my belly swells unbelievably and the pressure is painful. After the fluid is drained I feel really good. This has been going on since six days following my surgery. It first started by shooting off like a geyser....LOL...but since they've made an escape hole it's not quite so explosive. I haven't heard anyone else mention this, yet I hear it's not so uncommon following abdominal surgery. This fluid can be one to two liters per day....

I still get very tired mid afternoon and want to crawl into bed at seven each night. I was never a napper so it's a little odd for me to be sleeping in the daytime but I suppose it's my body telling me to slow down and rest.

I still shuffle a little when I walk...but I have this huge belly I'm dragging around...the doc suggested I use the binder again....but it doesn't fit well under clothes....I'm thinking maybe a maternity girdle might work better...hmmm???

Well, it sounds like all you gals having surgery around the same time are doing well...and soon we'll all be back to our old selves and laughing at all our obstacles...take care everyone and good health to each of you...

Thank God for the cancer free results and a prayer for those who didn't get the good news.
For as much as I was wondering beforehand if I was doing the right thing, when I got my pathology reports, I now know I did the right thing. My mom died from breast cancer and 2 aunts had ovarian cancer. After getting results of endometriosis, adenomyosis, polyps, cervicitis, enlarged uterus, yep, I certainly did the right thing. No doubts here. Again, prayers for all of us still recoving. Even though we feel so much better, we still are healing, don't forget! We need to still take time for ourselves when possible. Love to all!
