I never slept one wink again last night. This has happened 3 times since the surgery. I only had my uterus out???..............I don't know what to do. I don't know what is causing this.......

I thought I was the only one that could not sleep. I had my uterus and cervix removed and my surgery was on the 29th of May. I had an infection and I am always tired. I am also emotional and wondering if I did the right thing. I have not been released to go back to work yet (I am glad because I am not sure I can take it) I take warm showers so I can rest but it is short lived? I do not know what to do either????

Hang in there Szargar..... I had my TAH on May 29th also. This week ( 4 weeks out ) is the first week I do not feel totally drained. Before, if I was up and did the least little activity, I needed a nap. Found I didn't sleep well at night, because sleeping on my back and any movement stressed my incision. I found dozing in a recliner to give me the best rest. Just try to take little cat naps until you build up your strength. I too am not ready to go back to the office yet, so I am working a little remotely out of home on the computer. Remember you had major surgery and you have to give yourself time to heal.

Hugs to you !!!

I am going to the doctor for my four week check up tomorrow. I feel a little more energetic, but want naps every now and then. I too get a little weepy, but I am sooo glad I had the surgery. Having two periods a month was noooo picnic. I'm enjoying the lack of appetite and weight loss. That not sleeping thing is a pain, but I've taken Melatonin which helps knock me out and get a good night's sleep. I am definitely not pushing it, allowing my body to heal as should you.

I definitely understand. There are truly days I have no energy and I have realized that it is alright to take it easy. We'll be fine. In time!

The problem is I'm in no pain or uncomfortable when I'm sleeping..............................only complaint is I can't sleep at night......and for some reason that really bothers me......then the dry heaves come in the middle of the night with frequent bathroom trips. Last night I just relaxed all night but never fell asleep. I'm hoping I sleep tonight

Not Sleeping

I am also experiencing insomnia,,difficulty falling asleep. I've been waking up at 4:30 every morning. I am tired all the time. For every one day that I am energetic I have about 3-4 that I have no energy. I go back to work in 2 weeks so that should be interesting. Hopefully soon we will all be back to normal. We will get through this. Hope it starts getting better.

Gee, I'm glad to find out that I'm not the only one with insomnia. I fall asleep easily, but find myself waking up several times during the night with my mind just full of "stuff" and I can't seem to stop thinking long enough to go back to sleep. I've tried cutting out my afternoon nap to see if that has been interfering, but so far no change.
Something that has been on my mind a lot is the big question of s-e-x! Just wondering how that's going to feel, cuz I had everything removed and I know the doc makes a "cuff". I don't get clearance until my 6-week checkup, and that's still 3 weeks away, so I guess I'll just have to wait!
Anyway, I do know that I definitely did the right thing with the surgery. I was having prolonged heavy bleeding for the past three years, causing anemia, cramping and all the rest. Two years ago, I had endometrial ablation done, which was supposed to take me through menopause (I'm 53) but that only lasted for about 6 months, then back to periods lasting 6 weeks at a time. After tests, tests and more tests, my doc finally admitted that he had no idea why I was still bleeding, (not cancer, thank God) and FINALLY scheduled a TAH with tubes and ovaries going too. You can imagine my relief when I had completed stopped bleeding before I even left the hospital!!
I do have the added complication of DVT-deep vein thrombosis, which has caused me a lot more trouble than the surgery, but after a week of self-administered injections and lots of blood thinners in pill form, that too is responding nicely.
After my 6-week checkup, I'm scheduled to return to work for one week, then I have two weeks vacation booked at a cottage at Wasaga Beach, so even if I find I'm stressed going back to work, I'll be easing in to it gradually. Although, I have to admit that after reading what some of you ladies are up to, and so soon after your surgery, I feel like a real slacker!
I just want to say thank you to all you ladies who are "threading" on this site, because you have all been such an inspiration and continuing source of information and humour! Keep up the encouraging words and I pray for complete recoveries for us all.

Hi! Hystersisters,
Thanks for creating this site. I am recuperating quite well, so far, but just yesterday my DH trying to help me with the cooking accidentally chopped the tip of his right middle finger. Hope it won't get infected although it would permanently be missing a piece of his finger. He said that that portion does not seem to be able to have it reattached. So now, I am the one that can't sleep thinking about it...
