Had my post up appointment yesterday (1 week post op) Doctor said all is healing well. I was released to resume normal activity and I can tolerate. I am so very happy with my decision to go ahead with the LSH. Best thing I ever did for myself!

Recovering after LAVH

My june 8th LAVH went pretty good, instead of the 2 hours expected, it only took 1. Doctor took uterus, cervix. he said that my uterus was big but he could not see any visible fibroids, when he cut the uterus from the tubes the uterus instantly deflated like a baloon and also noticed some endometrio on the back of ot that was attaching it self to my rectum. I had a cyst on my ovary and he was able to remove that without a problem.
I was in and out for most of the day but refused to take any strong pain medicine, I stayed for 24 hours and then went home to my boys.
I think I over did the walking to prevent blood clots and cought some viral infection somehow that gave me sore throat and fever but he prescribed antibiotics and I am now fine! My first post-op visit will be saturday and hopefully the pathology report will be in.

I also have the greatest husband, that has been home taking care of me, our 4 boys and doing all house work!!!
I can not wait to be 100% me.

Hi All -

Had my staples removed yesterday; that was a breeze! I had the doctor prescribe something else for pain meds. Originally, I was on Oxicodon; now have Darvocet for when I need it. I was NOT enjoying the weird/scary/intense dreams I was having while I was taking the Oxi! Several times my DH had to wake me up to break me out of the dream!

Biggest problem I had sleeping last night was waking up over and over to go pee (I drank over 1.5 gallons of water yesterday)! I've been drinking about 3/4 of a gallon every day, but yesterday I was thirsty all the time!

Hey VoratiousReader you don't live to far from me! I'm in south Kansas City!

I got my staples out yesterday too and it was a breeze too. I took a pain pill before I went but I don't think I needed to, I never felt a thing. One of the staples had rotated around and he had to work on it a little longer than the others but he finally got it out. Boy do I feel better. He said my incision looked fine and I have to go back in 4 weeks for an internal exam he said, so he could check the stitches in my vagina. Not looking forward to that, he better be gentle!

Hope everyone is doing better each day, I know I am.

2nd day home

Well I made it to the otherside - TAH was on 11 June!!!! This is my second day home and I am doing ok. Meet all the demands of the doctor before she released me yesterday and got to know the nurses real well. Still a little weak, tired and walking slightly bent. Just started the computer for the first time today.

My friends and co-workers can not believe I am up and about but my gentleman friend says he knew I would not be laid up for long because I am to stubborn and hard headed.

Well time to restart my computer for the updates I missed. Talk to yall later

lulu69 welcome to the other side. From one strong headed stubborn person to another - try to be nice to yourself & don't push too hard. I kinda overdid it & had to call DR to check if feeling I was having was normal. SHe said yes but probably due to over doing it! Not a good feeling.

I guess I've really been out of the flow. I don't know how I feel ...it is just one of those days today. I have weird pains on my left side and some weakness even in my legs. Not sure what is causing it. Even have trouble sleeping on left side, since hyster.

Some lower back today. But I'm not sure if I came out doing to much too soon (e.g., sitting at desk, walking around, lite cooking) or what.

My TVH was on June 5th and I was able to keep both ovaries. Doc stated surgery was "perfect." My stay in the hospital was good. Nurses were very attentative and all very accommodating. Left the hospital on Thursday, June 7th.

I'm enjoing just reading everyone else's post-op notes because I'm finding a little of myself in several of them. So, at least, I'm not alone in what I've been feeling...physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Does anyone have a little more info concerning anesthesia and its effects?

Take care everyone!
Cynthia

Hey fellow healers! Thank you for those who replied about the HRT question I had. It's ridiculous that even those in the ob/gyn profession have different views about this and they all think THEY are right, when it's OUR bodies they are messing with! I found a link, I think thru this site, to a specialist in Atlanta who said we should take estrogen if we don't have ovaries because if not we risk osteo and heart problems....he said it's better than the alternative. I don't know, but since I'm JUST 39 (*grin) I'm going to take the Estrogen patch. I'm supposed to change it every Tues, but sure enough it fell off in the shower today so I put a new one on. May have to switch to pills; it's all a big pain in the tushy. Also, this specialist online said that there is a 10% chance that endo will return even after a hyster, as long as there is estrogen in our system. He said it's better to risk that than the diseases we can get w/o estrogen. Yet, my doctor said it wouldn't happen and I'm not going to worry myself sick about it, but how do I know if he really checked out my bladder and bowel? I'll just wait and see if I have pain down the road and if not, super. If so, I may go to Atlanta to see this specialist! I'm on Day #9 now from the surgery and gosh my incision is sore! Moreso after having the staples out it seems. Please tell me I'm not officially THE LAZIEST women in recovery either! I'm just so....BLAH. I walked 1/4 mile last night very slowly, took forever, but at least I did something. Then went out to eat, but sitting for that long irritates my belly. Plus I'm having insomnia despite sleeping meds, and hot flashes despite the patch (those are fun....), so I guess we all just need to give ourselves T-I-M-E to let our bodies heal. It feels like mine got run over by a horse -- how are y'all doing today?

Hey, fellow sisters!
I had my LAVH with all sorts of fun repairs on June 7th. I've felt very rough until today. Today I believe I may have "turned the corner"! It's been a long week...had a catheter removed then replaced after I retained 1000 cc's and couldn't pee! Talk about painful since I had cystocele repair and sling placed...My cath was removed a second time yesterday (6th day post op).

I believe most of my issues are with the repairs and not so much the hysterectomy part of the surgery. My tush hurts sooo much, I sit on gel packs most of the day. I also started HRT patch on Sunday and so far, so good with that.

I went to the Uro/gyn yesterday and he will do his internal "look see" in 3 weeks~ says he can't look for damage from the over extended bladder until the rest of my repairs are healed a little more. If there needs to be repairs again, it will have to wait but it will be an outpatient procedure and i can be sent home same day with cath, bypassing the nurses who are the culprit to Saturday's fiasco. (They removed the cath, but then didn't ensure I was peeing okay, until I was in such distress that I clamped my own IV drip and was crying and sobbing so loudly the other patients on the floor could hear)....

The GYN appt is sched for next Thursday and am hoping that the path will be back. He had estimated the surgery for 2 hours and it was over 2 1/2, had a lot of endo, adeno and an ovarian mass...

That sums it up for me so far!
My DH is an angel, he's been SO GOOD to me. I love him more today then the day we married 21 years ago! I am a sap but a sap IN LOVE!!!
