nail polish???

Went this morning( day before surgery) to have my artificial nails done and a pedicure complete with polish. I now read on here that you can't have artificial nails or polish. My pre op nurse nor the paper they sent home on what to do and not do said a thing about polish. Anyone out there allowed to have artificial nails during surgery?

nail polish???

Most don't allow (but some do) so they can see your nailbeds which I believe lets them know about your oygenation...
I think I would call just to be sure...would hate to show up with it on and not have any remover available!

nail polish???

I had no nail polish restrictions. I would contact the pre-op nurse to make 100% sure though as every hospital/dr. has different rules.

nail polish???

Like Ellen said it is because of the need to check the patient's oxygen. My hospital checked oxygen flow by a clip on thing on my finger so that is why I could have nail polish.

We had the clip on the finger thing too Sandy, but they still did not allow finger or toe polish....
Lucky you!

nail polish???

I had restrictions that said no make-up , no nail polish, no powder perfume pretty much nothing including deoderant. So I would call to make sure. Good luck....

nail polish???

I just had another pre-op conversation today and asked about this. They said they would have a total revolt if they asked every woman to take off her nails (I've had mine on for years!) so they've lifted the ban on acrylic nails and nail polish.

However, their preference is that toes are "clean" of all polish. Again, I believe she said they check nail beds for oxygen clues.

nail polish???

I just had my LSH last week and while I didn't have any polish on my fingernails, my toenails were polished. They had me put footies on as soon as I got to pre-op so I don't think anyone looked at my toes!

nail polish???

I showed my hands to my dr during my pre-op. I've got the pink & white acrylic on. She said they were ok so I went had had a fresh manicure & pedicure right before going into the hospital.
My feet were totally covered in white socks, then green no slip socks, then these inflatable things on my legs--no one ever saw my toes but I did the French pedicure on them--just in case!
