Can I drink now?

I have an interesting question. First of all, I am not much of a drinker. However, we like to do a lot of camping and when we do I will occasionally have a wine cooler. Well I have noticed the past three weekends that I have awakened on sunday morning to an awful headache. The only similarity is that I had a wine cooler (only 1), on saturday night. Yesterday, (Saturday) I awoke with a headache and nausea. I don't think it was a migrane, cuz I've never had one. However, I had (1) beer on friday night. I am wondering if it's the hormone patch that I'm on. I'm on estradiol .1 mg. Anyone else have this problem?

Can I drink now?

Patti, I'm with you I have the same problems. Throws my hormones all out of whack. While I have only drank one time since my surgery, it threw my hormones into a crazy spiral and I haven't done it since. Several of the ladies have expressed the same problem. Seems it does something to our estradiol levels. I cant remember exactly but maybe Kim or Becky will be by to lend some insight. Sorry I couldnt be of more help just wanted to say I feel your misery

Can I drink now?

Yes, drinking usually raises your estrogen levels so it can throw things out of whack. Now all you estrogen deprived ladies do NOT go out and get stuck in to the alcohol

Does this mean that alcohol may always have an effect on you if you're on estrogen? Or does that eventually disappear as time goes on?

I have a wedding in September and I guess I will have to be very careful if I have a drink!

Can I drink now?

I do my wine and an occasional cocktail on the weekends. I will say that for about 1 year post op imbibing would send me into hot flash hadies! I have found that over the last 6 months or so that does not seem to happen anymore. As y'all probably know, here in the jungle we are all different. That has just been my experience.

And yes, alcohol and smoking do have direct effects on your hormonal balance and estrogen levels.

Patti,

How long have you been on the .1mg patch? I left the OR with a .05mg Esclim patch on
and that worked for about 5 weeks, then I started having hot flashes and night sweats,
my GYN increased me to .1mg Esclim patch. I did get headaches for the first 7 days, GYN
told me my body needed to get used to the .1mg. he advised to take excedrine migraine for headache. I have been on the increased .1mg for three weeks now and the headaches just disappeared on day 8 and none since.

Even before my surgery I always got a headache when I had a glass of wine. So I don't know
if the wine could be causing your headaches. It could be a combination of both the estorgen and the wine.

If it continues, I would let your GYN know. Hang in there it does get better.

barbara.

I have been on the estradiol since coming home from my surgery. They had me on .05, but after a couple of weeks, and thinking I was having a heart attack and panic attacks, they upped it to .1 Since then I haven't had those problems, just occasional heart palps, but the headaches have only come after I had a single drink like a wine cooler, and the latest was a beer.

Hope you keeping doing as good as you're doing on your dosage.

One tiny little drink can sometimes really mess things up! Same goes for caffeine. I believe that caffeine stimulates the adrenal glands which, if I remember correctly, produce adrenaline and cortisol. These tamper with your estrogen levels. Alcohol does something similiar. Keep it to one glass of wine with food and there shouldn't be much problem. And Starbuck's decaf isn't half bad!
