I am 30 and been through BC and subsequent chemo. I wanted to have my ovaries removed for added protection because my BC was er/pr positive. When I consulted my gyn, he recommended TAH along with BSO. I am terribly frightened about the thoughts of menopause at 30. Any suggestions to make it a little smoother?

SMM, my aunt had BC. First in one breast then 2 years later in the other. She tested for the cancer gene and was positive. She decided to go ahead and have a TAH to remove the threat of ovarian cancer. She was not allowed to take HRT because of her history with cancer. She said at first she was moody, angry as all etc. Then she went to her doctor and they put her on a low dose of anti-depressants and they totally worked for her. She says she is feeling better than ever. Good luck to you!

Get the book The Premature Menopause Book by Kathryn Petras. It's a wonderful explanation of early menopause. I've found it really helpful and it's given me a great starting point to talk to my doctor.

I'm 30 and in surgical menopause, too. It's challenging. My biggest problems so far have been insomnia, night sweats, and hot flashes. I'm also very concerned about my future health, but that book has helped me to make sense of the issues we face.
