feeling good, but tired

Hello princesses,
I am 10 days post op, TVH. I have been feeling pretty good everyday since surgery, but today I am really tired. I have been walking and running errands, no lifting and very light cooking. My DH and kids have been great helping with everything. I have been bending down when I need to, but using my legs and trying not to bend at the waist. It's interesting that some of us lose weight and some gain. Fortunately I am in the first group. I have been eating less overall, but figured I would stay the same weight or gain a couple not doing as much. I have lost about 5 lbs. I am going back to work in a week, which will have given me 2 1/2 weeks off. I am returning to a very physical job and am hoping all will go well. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy recovery

two 1/2 weeks is not long at all, had a fellow teacher last summer that went back at two weeks... ended up in the hospital...she is an elem PE teacher, and she was not cut in ab, said it was biggest mistake she made so be careful, are you sure ??? Only your Dr knows, maybe with your procedure recovery must be much much faster.. pray all goes great for you.

My One Week Later

A week ago today I was recovering from my full-hysterectomy. The DR took everything. I have had good days and bad days. I am moving more easily and can't wait to get these 40+ staples out on Wednesday! I still have quite a bit of pain so I sit a lot, watch tv, read, and play board games with my kids! The first thing I learned is to NOT take a shower until 24-30 hours after your surgery - you WILL pass out and it WILL be embarassing!

ok, so my TAH was on the 12th, and I have been home since the 15th. First I had no pain at all, but come the 16th, I guess the nerves woke up, because I am downing my Darvocet like a good little girl. The nights are the worst, when I toss and turn, which I am very good at, it feels like my incision is ripping open. Finding that I don't sleep much. Getting to bed around 12 or 1am, and then back up and making coffee by no later than 7am. I used to be able to sleep like there was no tomorrow, but not anymore. Also, I am finding the same pain on the right side, that I have to hold the incision, so it doesn't feel like my innerts are going to fall out there. Weird feeling, I tell you, and not fun either.

So, I was doing pretty well here, and then this killer storm hit yesterday evening and I decided after the neighbors called to tell me that their house (2 houses to my right) was hit by lightning and that all their PC's, TV's, and brand new Ionic Breezes were "toast", I decided to unplug all my electronics. Got on my hands and knees and crawled all around to unplug everything. That was easy. But then this morning after the storm I went to plug everything back in and the big monster TV in my family room sits on this humongous monstrosity of a homemade piece of furniture, that I had to move away from the wall to get the plug back in. Well, that sucker weighs in at around sumo-300lbs. and when I finally got it pulled away from the wall, you guessed it, the inside of my belly screamed a mourderous "ouch" and now I am nursing the right side of my incision back to non-throbbing heaven. Much ice and a few more pain killers later, and I am here to attest, that I DO NOT RECOMMEND moving furniture for at least 6-8 weeks in.

I am hoping everyone is having a great recovery and I will surely laugh about the TV incident much later.

Your sister in arms,

2 week post-op

Had my appt. today, Dr. said my uterus weighed 9 oz., she acted like that was big, what does a normal uterus weigh? I had joked before the surgery that I hoped my uterus weighed 40 pounds...that's how much weight I need to lose. She said it was full of fibroids. I had the hyst because of a reoccuring problem with hyperplasia. Anyhow, I'm doing great. I've lost 7 pounds since the hyst. She's uping my estrogen as I've had a few hot flashes and am having trouble sleeping on the current dosage.
Still can't vacuum or lift anything over 10 pounds. She said to start walking more, that rest is important, but moving will help my recovery.

Hope all are doing well.

Living up to my name, Freckledwalker!

Walked my 2 dogs tonight - not together like I did before surgery. One at a time. They are too big for that. (They are Russian Wolfhounds) But I am going to make my goal of walking 2 - 3 miles a day with both dogs by the end of summer. I put this surgery off for years because my doc told me that I'd be layed up for 4 - 6 weeks! Since things were not pressing, I just kept having my fibroids checked by ultrasound. Then I had my 3 week period that left me with amenia. Time for it to go, the doc said! I got my daughter graduated from high school and I had my TAH a week later. Like I said before, for me it has been no worse that my 2 c-sections.

It's so interesting how different eveyones experience with this has has been. I am rooting for you all!

Might be late but...

MeShe.... This might be late but I was reading your post and noticed that you were trying to wait for a bowel movement by eating fruits and drinking water. I don't know if you are taking the stool softeners or not but I couldn't. Might not be sure but I DID have headaches when I took them so I tried eating almost only fruit and liquids and still had a terrible time with my bowels. Maybe that was my problem. ANYWAY, I finally joined the hyster sister world of prune juice and it seems to have helped. I can not make myself drink it cold so I heat it and drink it like a cup of coffee! Hope you are doing better! TAH June 11th

Stubborn joining ranks of prune juice!

Had TAH on June 11th and had bladder spasms (or whatever you want to call it) at every urination. AND as was once quoted "the bowels from [email protected]". I still have to make sure and go to the bathroom whenever I first get the urge to urinate or it still is painful.. AND last night for the first time I had a BM that was not quite as long and painful. Because everything was so painful I kept to mostly fluids for a week and then added mainly fruits and veggies but no prune juice. Couldn't take stool softeners because they were giving me a headache. EVerything hurt on way through. NOW on Sunday I gave up and ate some baked chicken with some other veggies and did not have a BM that day. Normally I would consider that normal but not since hysto because I panic if I cant get things out. Drank 3 cans of prune juice throughout the day and Mon night things moved along and not quite so painful. Maybe I needed something solid? Who knows.
Anyway... thanks for the support. Not glad for others' pains, just glad to know I'm not alone. It makes THINGS less scary.
ALSO... with my TAH I did not have staples. My Dr sewed me from inside out and said stitches will disolve on their own. Incision has been very clean and almost no drainage or care necessary. Have had no bandage at all since 2nd day after surgery!

skichick,

Did you go to the Dr yesterday? How was your blood pressure and what did the Dr. say? Hope your appt went well and you are on the road to recovery. I didn't sleep the night before, so yesterday I was so tired. Slept better last night. Trying to walk everyday but it still hurts. Just taking it easy and not over doing it.
