I had a TAH, I have a super Dr and the staff at the castle were great.
I have been home from the "Castle" since 6/15. I thought I was going to be up and running in no time. Went to post op appointment on that Mon. and felt good that day also. Then I crashed and burned on Tue - Fri. I have not been up to "par" all week. Today a little slow and my husband finally took me out for a shopping trip but I want to feel fantastic! I guess everyone is right, this does take some time to get back to normal. Pain in incision and bladder I know this is normal, Good luck to everyone going through this.

Made it home in one piece today!

Hi all,
I'm home after TAH two days ago. Feeling great and SO happy to be in my own bed. Ovaries looked very healthy so happily those are still working their magic.

No pain in the incision area. Had the On-Q pain ball inserted in that area so that's probably why -- what a great little invention! Keeps everything numb down there, I guess. Just on Motrin when needed. Trying to keep the narcotics at bay if possible.

I'm peeing and moving gas but nothing else. Am eagerly awaiting the first on of "those" and hope not to have too many issues.

More later -- just wanted to say hi to all my sisters who I have eagerly conversed with in the past two weeks. You made the waiting game much more bearable!

Hugs,
Cat

I have been using the Gas- Ex melt in your mouth things and they really work. Sorry to hear you are feeling crappy. Just take it easy. I am sure that after my burst of energy today, I will feel bad tomorrow too.

Had LAVH/BSO Friday night and got home yesterday afternoon. Lots of pain. I've been up trying to walk it out. No BM yet.

Hope everyone else is feeling better.

what an adventure!

Had my TAH on Tuesday and was able to come home Thursday morning. But the procedure went from 1.5 hours as estimated, to 3 hours when my doc found that my endo had returned, and had covered my appendix. She had to call in the general surgeon on call to remove it. Notwithstanding that (!) everything went pretty smoothly. She had to take out my right ovary, but thankfully was able to leave the left one in. The fibroid was as "big as my head", pretty yucky, I have pictures! My time in the castle was OK... I had/have very little pain, and no bleeding so far at all.
Resting, reading, watching tv here at home, feeling pretty good and glad to be on the other side!!
Thanks so much to all the Sisters for their caring and sharing, it helps to know there are others out there going thru the same thing at the same time, not to feel alone in this.

Hello Everyone!
It is nice to be on the "other side" .As brown*dragon stated!e Everyday brings something new. Keep your pillow close by for those unexpected sneezes! Today for me is 11 days post op and I feel like I am not out of the clouds! Unfortunately, I decided one day I felt so good I was going to go for a small walk on my property. I live out in the country and I totally fainted outside! I think from a combination of things, a drink of coffee, pain pill the night before, low blood count and nothing to eat! An now If I don't eat, I feel faint! So make sure you take care of your self. Otherwise, the burning sensation from the incision is gone as well as all that gassy feeling!
Good luck!

4 Days post op

Hi ladies, I had my tah/bso on Wed. and came home on Friday.
The surgery went fine except that my ob/gyn was delivering a baby and I had to wait for 5Hrs. The docs kept me sedated because I was totaly flipping out.
They found adheresions from my uterus to my rectum.
I had alot of love and support from my family. I am still taking the pain medicne and move very slow. But I feel better than I thought I would.

Got home yesterday after a TAH on Tuesday morning. I asked to stay in the castle (crazy right?) because my kids are young and I just didn't feel like I could handle much. Surgery went longer than expected as my uterus was adhered to my bladder. The doctor said "It was almost like cement", he had to chisel my uterus away and he couldn't believe I wasn't complaining of more pain than I was. He did remove my left ovary (cysts) and tube, along with the uterus and cervix. I still have a lot of pain, still have the staples and need to go on Weds. AM to get those out. The BM are the toughest, the gas pains went away, but caused me to vomit all day Thurs. Anything I ate would just come up and we couldn't find a pain med that wouldn't cause me to itch. Back to bed for now.

Tanya, do not feel bad for staying at the castle longer than some others have! Everyone heals differently, has different problems found upon surgery, etc. You did the correct thing. Thankfully, my kids are older and self sufficient (well, they can't clean up anything, but they are pretty reliable lol) and I didn't have to worry about them..but I stayed three days after my TAH because I lost a lot of blood in surgery and was weak and the pain from that incision was the worst pain of my life! I have had kidney stones before and the pain wasn't as bad as that incision pain! When the doc pulled my bandage off the day after surgery I about climbed the walls! It was agony! I know how you feel about the bms, too. I am almost five weeks out and I STILL have issues with the bowels. Yesterday I had a gas attack that about brought me to my knees! I never realized how intense a surgery this was, and how it impacted a lot of the normal everyday things we take for granted before our hysters. Take care, don't rush it, and go with the flow. Pamper the princess!!
