I've resumed my cardio/treadmill workouts this week and have been feeling pretty good about them. Mind you, I was a total slacker prior to, taking very few walks in weeks past and indulging in junk food. Yes, admittedly I've used my recovery as an excuse to let myself off the 1˝-year diet I've been on and be a layabout! lol. When I had my follow-up appointment on Tuesday, I'd actually lost weight and it proved to be motivating. So, this week has been all about getting my fitness on! I realized I still have a LONG way to go in my recovery when I made the foolish attempt at using my stability ball (I wanted to see if I could do an ab crunch). I sat down on the ball, found it painful to lay back, and there was no way in heck I could get back up. I had to roll off the ball to the side onto the floor, and I'm sure if anyone had been watching, they would have found it hilarious. I'm five days away from the 6-week mark and, yeah, there is NO way I'm ready to resume "normal" everyday activities despite what my smarty-pants doctor seems to think. I just thought it was ironic how my doctor insisted I was ready to return to work and resume normal activities when obviously that's not the case. So, ladies, listen to your bodies and let your bodies do the talking (oh, and stay away from the evil stability balls)!

ScrubsFan.... I did the same thing you did with the stability ball... ...definitely not good. From what i've read in here, pelvic tilts are about the safest thing to an ab workout for now. Like you, i'm going back to my dr. for my 6 week checkup soon and i'll be asking about the heavier weightlifting, kickboxing, ect. But even if he says its ok, i'll see how i feel. Your right, you have to listen to your body.
For those going back to work.... I've been back for almost 2 weeks now and it has helped some. I also invested in the swellybelly band and its been a lifesaver. Since i'm on my feet all day, it stops everything from shifting constantly. Unfortunately work hasn't helped my sleep much...but i guess thats normal. As far as the brain fog goes....well i had that problem beforehand (premenopause?) so i can't tell much difference...
Good luck to all.......

I have had the sleeping problem since surgery. Went to dr Fri and was given very lose dosage ambien and slept GREAT the night I took it -- no waking up every 2 hrs & no sleeping for 3 hrs then up rest of night/day. Skipped taking last night and here I am up every 2 hrs and still up. Didn't even go to bed till 12;30am thinking for sure I'll just sleep thru but was up at 1:42am.

Trying to not take EVERY night!

Sleeping? No way!

Boy, the sleeping thing is right on! Some nights I can sleep pretty well, others can't seem to at all + I am up every hour or two all night long, because I have to pee that often!!! I thought the bladder repairs would help, but evidently not -- however, they did cure the stress incontinence I had for 35 years; guess I should be glad for that...best thing about my 15 day relationship with the catheter was sleeping all through the night without having to get up...
LOL about the stablility ball thing: I have been tempted to try it, but something told me NO! Glad I listened after hearing other experiences with it.
Glad to hear about other dieter successes; not me, just keep gaining...at my age, it is obvious that I will be able to gain weight eating nothing at all in the near future which will save me a bunch on my grocery bill...

tvh+vaginal prolapse repair + bladder sling etc.

This may be late in this whole recovery process to ask - but exactly what is "swelly belly"? I thought it referred to all with swollen abdomens as a result of surgery--but is it referring only to the gals who had abdominal surgeries with sutures across belly (like c-section surgery sutures) or does it include us who had laproscopic proceedures (with 3-4 tiny, already incisible scars)---we all have 100's of stitches inside , so i supposed the term applies to all of us----i'm just wondering --

just how long does this "belly" last? A look in the mirror at my profile in the a.m. isn't too bad -- but whoa! i hate looking at myself at nite after the clothes are off!! I hop on to the scale (scared to look) and not much change lb. wise--but my gosh--that belly belongs to somebody else!! can't be mine !! And i'm afraid to do anything as far as exercise (used to be a gym rat till all of this female stuff started happening)-- have read and heard horror stories about those adhesions from torn stitches and overdoing it-- will wait till see doc @ 6 wk appt in 3 days---

one more prob.: still taking those stool softeners 2x day and prune juice--otherwise i pay dearly the next a.m. if i forget--how long will this go on? till i get more exercise? i had heard that after total hyster., with everything out of there, the intestines have more room and things reorganize themselves--but i was not expecting the "morning train" to stop or slow down like it has--and that *#@^ "caboose" hides in the "tunnel" if i forget to fuel it with good old prune juice the night before!

Hi Lydia,
I have been to my Doc today & asked how long is this tummy staying? He explained that because so may organs and tissue has been cut that not only is it all very swollen, but also more scar tissue grows to heal the damage. He likened it to a broken bone & said that the bone reforms with a large lump around the break until eventually it settles down. He says in 6 months I may be able to do my jeans up again. Will try to cheer myself up with shopping I guess?

Hello Ladies~
I just returned from the DR and she said that I have a blood clot behind my incision and I am scheduled for a CT scan on Thursday. She said the insomnia is probably nerves...she said drink some tea, take a bath, dont watch any tv shows with any kind of violence before bed and it all should go away soon...I hope so! She did approve 2 more weeks off for now, unless CT scan shows something really bad. She pretty much said that all of my other aches, pains, b*%#@en and moanen', are a "normal part of the healing process". I am so sick of hearing that, but suppose it is true.
So for now, I will be sitting with heating pad on my "swelly belly" and hoping the 2 HUGE bottles of barium I have to drink Thursday morning, taste like oreo milkshakes...a girl can dream!! :bigwink:
Have a fabulous day!

WitchiePoo....Sorry to hear about the blood clot. Did they say what caused it? Hopefully your CT scan will come out okay. Not sure about the nerves causing insomnia. If thats the case, then everyone one in here is a bundle of nerves..
Well good luck Thursday and if the barium tastes like an Oreo shake, then save some for the rest of us....
