Prayer Request!

I just found out a little bit ago that my mom has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She had Hodgkins Disease when she was pregnant with me and at that time had the max amount of radiation treatment. They are unsure of what they can do, other than remove her affected breast. She will be spending the next week w/specialists to run tests to find out what they can do for her. Please keep her in your prayers. Both her and I also had pre-cervical cancer... so I suppose cancer just really likes my family

I have always known that I am at a much higher risk for cancer, especially Hodgkins Disease, but so far have been pretty lucky. I no longer have my cervix and all looked well during my hyster. I am a tad worried about the breast cancer though, since I have some of the same symptoms that my mom has had. So, anyhow, I'm now in the process of trying to get a mamogram ordered for me... just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Please keep my mom in your thoughts & prayers. I haven't seen her in a couple of years (do to distance and finances). Like I've mentioned in another post, I'm a bit overwhelmed right now, but will try to update when possible.

Dear Desiree,

You are in my thoughts and prayers. My mother had breast cancer three years ago, but we were lucky - they caught it early, did do a mastectomy (she was 75 at the time), but no radiation or chemo. Just hormone regimine.

As I said, you and your mother are in my prayers.

Recovery Amazing!

Hello Ladies!

My sincere apologies for not posting my return from the castle but truly I pampered this princess for the first two weeks by sleeping, sleeping, sleeping, walking and eating right! What an incredible difference, not to mention the 10lbs lost has been quiet a boost!

The surgery went really well, lasting for about 3 hours. It turns out that my uterus was as big as a canteloupe, anterior wall only needed minor repair, however the posterior wall was well..."paper thin". But there was more good news than bad, my paths all came back great, and once they removed the cervix and uterus my lovely little bladder went right back into place which meant just the tape for the urethra instead of a bladder sling...thank goodness! Although I did get to indulge with two nights in the castle which was great! The nurses and docs were fantastic!

I have just got to say it....it's been fantastic! What an incredible relief!

My docs have been absolutely incredible. Was only home for two weeks then was released to go back to work and drive! Yeah!!!! So I have been back at work since the 17th. The first week was a little rough..by the end of the day I was really tired, now I feel great. I walk a mile and a half on my break and get my boost to get through the rest of the day, then walk again in the evening. It truly helps sooo much! Although I have noticed that when I've pushed it a bit too far my back side gets achy so I just rest.

It's amazing, I can laugh, cough, sneeze without wetting myself! No cramps, no bleeding, haven't had this much energy since my early 20's. INCREDIBLE!!!!

Happy recovery to all!

Jen

Desiree,

I'm sorry to hear that news too. My mom had breast cancer but that was years ago and research has come so far since then. Keep thinking positive thoughts and do make sure to monitor yourself also. I have 3 sisters and thank goodness none of us has had it. Many lumps and scares though! Last year a good friend of mine had it also and has been fine since so there is always hope. My thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery for both you and your mom.

Take care.

Desiree, sorry to hear of yor mother, mine had breast cancer at 76, she kept it hidden for months, then had a mastectomy. She had heavy breathing problems since after the death of Dad she smoked too much. After the surgery she took only ormones.. and died after some years of lungs problems. I have a mammography every year.

Thank you all for your kind words! It amazes me how many women have (or have had) breast cancer. I really appreciate everyone's prayers.

It seems like since my hyster tons of "bad" things have happened. This has been the hardest recovery I have ever had, both, pysically and emotionally.

Believe it or not, I'm actually having a decent day, even with the rough news. My mom is being so positive... it's kinda hard for me not to be!

I hope everyone else is doing well today!

Witchipoo: don't be ashamed of your feelings -- you would be less of a person if you did not have them! It is a difficult time for all of us and you are not the only one who has had doubt about having made the right choice for this surgery -- I have had second thoughts frequently. For an old broad like me, well past child-bearing (I had 4 kids + am still married to my one and only dh after 40+ yrs.), this surgery is all about fear of disease/old age/worried about never feeling well & alive again. For you younguns, there are PLENTY of other issues. My oldest daughter had a tvh at 32 because of cervical cancer; that was 3 1/2 yrs. ago & she has remained cancer free. However, she always wanted kids (the cancer was found while she & hubbie were undergoing exams to figure out why they couldn't conceive). Now she is childless, divorced (don't ask! you can imagine enough bads) and still subject to depression over it all -- I know she is on anti-depressant medicaion now, which has helped her. In addition to everything else, her insurance was cancelled after the cancer diagnosis...the clinic refused to treat her for a while until her doctor (an old-fashioned saint of a gyn-ob) told them that she WAS going to be treated. Your feelings are complicated by the fact that you are a single mom and you have the additional burden of having to be the pillar of strength for your child.. I know you are really feeling the finality of no more kids etc. It is perfectly normal, and I give you complete permission to take some time to feel sorry for yourself. FYI, I have felt plenty sorry for myself, thinking that it was something I did that caused all of the prolapses etc. and that I could have prevented it. I would really be over the edge if I had to deal will all the things you are facing, too. So don't be afraid to let go once in a while; I think if we didn't occasionally rage against the cards we are dealt we would not be able to move past the anger & depression & arrive at a stronger, better frame of mind...love etc. from marva637

Hello All~
First, Desiree, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Always know, that even though we are "hyster-sisters" doesnt mean you can not share all of your thoughts here with us!! I am sure I speak for all of us here when I say, when you need us, we will be here!!
And to everyone else who responded to my post from this morning...A big for all of you. I have been thinking about it all day (and crying) and I guess what I feel I missed out on was the "happy" pregnancy. Dont get me wrong, I was happy because I was told I would never have children, but "dad" was not so happy and although has stayed in my DD's life, was out of mine right after she was born. I never had the feeling of family before...the joy of being in love and creating a family together is out of my reach now.
My DD comes home Sunday after spending the last 7 weeks with her dad 1000 miles away...so I have decided to focus on our happiness together...life is what you make of it right!!??!!
Thanks again...love you all !!!

Tonie,
Absolutely, life is what you make it. I'm so sorry for all of your troubles and truly wish you and your DD all the happiness in the world. I raised my DS for the first five years alone, and became separated from my H a short time prior to my surgery. We currently to the week on week off with my DD. There is nothing better than a hug from your DD once she's home. When mine are away I'm a bit of a nut, things just don't fit, it's kinda of like walking through the grocery store stark naked but once they come home all seems well with the world again. Hang in there and lots of hugs to you!
