Yes I think my incision pain is from picking up stuff that is too heavy - but I'm supposed to try that stuff now right?

We went camping and fishing over the weekend and I actually had a great time. It was so nice getting out of town but my energy level is still so low due to my anemia that I didn't do as much as I usually would. I do feel like I am getting closer though. My kids will start school on Wednesday and our schedules will get back to normal and I'm sure that will make a huge difference too.

Have a great week everyone and heal, heal, heal!

Hi All- Happy Birthdays, too!

I've been back to work for 2 weeks and it was pretty hard. Fortunately things are slow at work and it was easy to work half days and I telecommuted from home a few times.

Today I started a week of vacation I set up a long time ago, to coincide with my daughter's return home (she spent her junior year of college abroad).

It has just been so wonderful to have her back briefly (she is already going into her senior year on Saturday - the semesters in Germany are different and she just finished a semester)
Anyhow, it has been a delightful diversion and put some pep in my step.

One bummer - I was rear-ended a couple days ago. A lady hit me really hard and it made my cup-holder inside the car break, but no damage on the outside.
I was so busy trying not to hit the car in front of me that I didn't even notice her in the rear-view mirror, so when it hit, I was stunned.
I felt pain in my tummy immediately and I just wanted to cry.
I knew it would set me back, and sure enough I was in bed the whole next day. But now I am better.
It was a short setback.

Overall, finally, I feel like this "new normal" is OK. It will be a while before swelly belly departs, but I am fitting into my clothes just fine now. It is just an annoying sensation that keeps getting less and less bothersome.

Greetings to everyone and hope you are doing well!

Yikes, I'm glad you are ok! At least it happened now and not a few weeks ago as the pain may have been much worse. I notice that I watch other cars much closer now just begging them not to hit me!

Take care and be careful out there!

Pepporoni,

Sorry to hear about your accident but am really glad and thankful that your belly/incision area wasn't hurt too bad and you're okay after a days rest. I think that's what we all fear so soon after surgery and still with tender/swollen bellies is to have an accident and set us back or mess something up that is healing.

Enjoy your daughters' company while she is home with you!

Pepperoni: Hope you're ok--but if you have ANY probs. and many times it happens days after the accident--you may want to see your doctor. I just hope this won't cause you any healing delays. I could've really done myself in by climbing down on that ladder then day before we left for a beach trip--missed the last step and slightly sprained my ankle--chasing a stray parakeet i rescued from our patio--could've broke my neck! Wore a brace, rubbed a raw spot on my ankle, and now have a spot that wont heal and had a reddish ring--may need to see a doc to check it out--hope it's not MSRA ! Found a great family to give the 'keet to anyway! Any had a great relaxing time in the Bahamas--got back just in time before Hurricane Dean !
No probs whatsoever with post op pains, tiredness, etc until yesterday--trying to get DS ready to move on to campus apt in 2 days--moved too many boxes, probably lifted too much, no real pain, but was whipped with exhaustion last nite! It's almost 2 1/2 months so i guess i pushed myself too much too soon.
Hope others of you are getting your groove back and feeling good!

How long can we expect "swelly belly" post-op? We're all like at 8 or so weeks post-op and I still have a swollen roll that behaves the same way as before - not quite so bad in the morning and much more noticeably swollen by evening. I thought I read something about this on the website, but I'll be darned if I can find it now. Am I right in that it could take several months or longer to go away?

Yep, I think the site and posts say the swelly belly can last 6 mos or more, but my memory might be faulty...
Meanwhile, my recovery is moving right along; still get really tired every 4th or 5th day, have started to (carefully) resume vacuuming, bed-making & other cleaning; still afraid to walk our big (block-headed) dogs on a leash! They are obedience trained, but, being labs, sometimes want to PULL me somewhere they want to sniff!...when I walk them I take them to where I can (safely) let them be off-lead.
The worst for me has been a WEIGHT GAIN the last couple of weeks, after an initial loss...I went back to Weight Watchers yesterday & need to pay attention to that issue, since I am not able to exercise nearly as much as before, at least yet...
I need to remind myself about the lifting --I will never be able to safely lift more than about 15 lbs. forever; it is difficult to keep in mind! Hope everybody's week is accident free, pain free & on the road to wellness! love ya all, marva

Wow Marva,
Thank you for the reminder that I need to be more careful. I figured that since I am 32 and "recover quickly" that I was an exception to the healing rule. WRONG!!! I too get tired every 5th day or so and it lasts for about 2 days... I was finding this discouraging but I realize that this was not a "simple" surgery. Unfortunately, my lung collapsed in the process of healing and took some time to get back to feeling "healthy". So, I want to thank all of you for sharing as it makes me feel like I am not alone and that this tiredness is not because I am coming down with something.... Have a fantastic week and I look forward to future posts.
P.S.
I too had weight gain and I am VERY thankful that I didn't get rid of my pregnancy clothes... I CAN'T wait to see the pounds fall away after getting back to the gym full time.

Hi Ladies,

Well I am back to work (for the second time). I was back, then left for vacation, now I'm back again. Yesterday was my first full day and right after work I had a 6:30 meeting for a Dinner Dance Committee at the charity I work for. That meant my first day back turned into a 12 hour day. I'm really dragging butt today. Back to my primary doctor tomorrow for my follow up regarding coming off the HRT's and my heart rate and BP. As much as life is back to normal..........the saga continues. I too noticed the postings are decreasing. I was actually surprised the other thread was still open when I got back.

Happy Hump Day!
