Make sure you continue to take it slow. Don't overdo it at work and I hope your support system continues at home and the family doesn't think you "can do it all" since you started back at work...
Take it easy....

Karen,
You just answered my next question
I've been bothered all day by pains just to the left of my belly button and couldn't figure out why since my incision is several inches below that! Now I know it's just the internal stitches.
Enjoy your veg-out day! I'm right there with you, I overdid it a bit yesterday and we had the same procedure on the same day!
Good luck!

Karen,

Thanks! I was just going to post today and ask people why it hurts under my belly button! I noticed last night that when I push a little on my incision, or around it, it does not hurt, but as I get higher up, and especially around my belly button: ouch! I was like, Hey...nothing got done up there so what's up? It is nice when we can get advise from other people's doctors. Stitches healing huh? OK.

I see some people going back to work, that I cannot imagine. Of course, my job used to kick my butt (middle school math teacher) so I think if I tried to work for five minutes I'd drop dead. Luckily (or not) I have this whole year off (as long as I go to China in five weeks for a year...) My daughter had some big anxiety attack about the whole thing last night. We've all been through a lot lately.

So, this is going to sound crazy but I want to go to Disneyland. My poor kids have been tortured the entire summer and we have not been there since they were really little. I am wondering if I can get my doctor to sign one of those things that says I can't wait in line so we can just get directly on the rides :-) I am thinking maybe at the 5 week mark? I could also get a wheelchair if need be. I just feel like I need to do this, for me and the kids. Dh is into it but worried I can't take all the excitement.

Well, I am off to another day of rest! I have a good book waiting, which cheers me up. Oh, and I bought ice cream bars and the sun is out! It is the small things that make me happy these days.

I have soemthing similar. I called my surgeon and she said it is most likely pooled fliuds. I don't see her until next week, but she seemed pretty sure it was normal so I chose not to drive 45 min. into the sweltering city. I'd like to hear from anyone else with this issue. I'm 14 days post-op.

Kim,
Are your kids old enough to go on a few rides while you rest on a bench? Be careful you don't push too hard... you don't want a setback when you're in China!!

You must be younger and stronger than I am!!!! I can't imagine going to Disneyland in the near future. And you have to go to China within 5 weeks!!! I couldn't tell from your post which kind of surgery you had, though. I had a TAH/BSO and am 14 days post-op.

I'd definitely go for the wheelchair! They do have a lounge/resting place in one of the restrooms designed for nursing moms, maybe you could go lay down in there if you felt bad! A wheelchair would be great though and certain to get you ahead in the lines.

I had a TAH, but very extensive due to a massive life threatening infection from previous surgery and big huge bowel issues which seem to have resolved (I had three surguries in June! Last one was the TAH) I just realized my incision is about 6+ inches long...I just turned 41. Anyway, I seem to be recovering well. I walk every day, I guess I am at about a mile now but I go a little more every day.

I think the wheelchair would work. I mean, if all I have to do is sit and ride the kiddie rides (like haunted house) it doesn't sound like much. Also, my DH was saying we would take it really slow, stay in the hotel that is actually INSIDE the California Adventure park, so that if I needed to go rest, I could easily go back to the room. I am worried my doctor will think I am nuts, but then again, SHE actually was still very pro going to China for me, so who knows what she will say. If she says no, we won't go, obviously, but I just got it in my head (they had me in the maternity ward at the hospital due to it having fewer germs, and my room was decorated with Mickey Mouse so I am thinking that is where the idea blossomed) and I really do want to go. It is the "happiest place on earth" right? :-)

Kim, definitely discuss it with your Dr. They have warnings on many of the rides (no pregnant women, no casts, no people w/ back problems) for a reason, because the ride could be dangerous for those people. There's probably even warnings for people with recent surgery. Is there any way you could go later than 5 weeks post op?
