Scared to death

I am scheduled for a hysterectomy July 10th. I am exhausting myself with worry. Anesthesia, what more they will find, changing after the surgery, death thoughts, ( more along the lines of I have 3 and 2 yr old and I am so afraid of this surgery, what if I don't wake up stuff) My doctor says that I am ok to feel scared.
It has been years, and many, many of them that I have been in pain, have had excruciating heavy clotted periods etc. and never had a diagnosis. I now know that I have adenomyosis, endometriosis and more adhesions. (I had a lap for adhesions a year ago) I Have a diagonosis FINALLY! and I should be relieved that having my uterus and cervix out will make me feel better. I had two c-sections!!, I should not be this nervous, or maybe I should, I don't know. I cry some days, feel confident others, feel sad some days and then a little angry others. My husband is wonderful.
I have wanted to write here for a while. I feel like a whiner but... I am just so scared! Occupying myself and meditation only work until I sleep, then it surfaces again in a dream!

Please ...anyone out there feel somewhat the same? or did feel somewhat the same?

Scared to death

Oh yes I know those feelings all too well! I have spent many a sleepless night wondering if I made the right decision and praying to God that this is what I need. I have had all the thoughts you have had and know in my heart I have made the right decision for me.
I have spent many days as well crying. All I can say is hang in there and remember there is life without pain and I am looking forward to it!!!

Scared to death

Hi moonflower
My surgry is on July 16. I TOTALLY understand. I have not been able to sleep much at night - I lay in bed crying, I worry about everything I need to get done 'before' the surgery, and all I need to prepare for in case I don't come through it. It is this waiting period that is so very difficult. I almost wish there was no "intermission" time, and that the surgery happened right away. It can't be healthy to be this worried!
I'm driving my husband nuts.
I will be thinking of you! I know we will be just fine :-)

Scared to death

Waiting is definately the hard part, and almost every woman who had to wait for their surgery had those same fears. My surgeon told me that Hysterectomy is one of the safest surgeries preformed. He said it has fewer casualities then C-section or even childbirth.

Scared to death

All will be okay. I was worried too with a 6 y.o. and a 4 y.o. Of course you have the right to be concerned. My own experience - and we're all different - the c-sections were harder to get over than the hyster has been. I had a TAH last Tuesday, and I'm feeling pretty great. I love my kids, but I stayed in the hospital the full 5 days the insurance allotted. I got to see them everyday, but I thought of that as pampering as well. I think it made a huge difference in the recovery.

Scared to death

Hi Moonflower,
You are not alone. I think most of us have these fears. The weekend before I went to the castle I was a nervous wreck. I cried, which is something I don't ususally do without a good reason. I worried about all the same things, putting my life in the hands of others and all the what if's. I had a TVH of 6/15 and I feel great. This has been so much easier than I could have imagined. My doc told me at my pre op that I would, but of course I didn't believe her. I kept hoping I wouldn't be that small percentage of people that has something go wrong. I already feel so much better and knowing I will not be in pain and discomfort and no more horrible periods leaves so much to look forward to! I wish you all the best on your trip to the castle. Take care.

Oh Moonflower, you are not alone! I felt the exact same way! (I have a 5 and 2 year old) But like you've heard before, the waiting really IS the hardest part. Soon, your trip to the castle will be over, you'll be home, and on to a life without all the pain and bleeding-- you'll be able to enjoy your kids even more! Keep posting here when you need support, or to vent, or have questions. These ladies are the BEST and helped me soooooooooo much!

Hi moonflower.. Yeah I have the same fears. The biggest of them is going under. I am afraid of not waking up. My kids are 13 and 16. Thankful we are at the right place.
