Bladder spasms: looking for help!

Hi everyone: I am almost 2 wks post op -- TVH + cystocele, rectocele, enterocele + bladder sling on 6/19. I have had a foley cath. in place since the surgery, have been unable to urinate on my own. Dr. sez to try again on 7/5 at his office, but I am having such discomfort with bladder spasms and it doesn't seem like I have a uti or anything. Any suggestions for relief? I could use some help here...

Bladder spasms: looking for help!

I'm sorry to hear your having these spasms! I had a TVT Monday. Tuesday they took my cath out, thank God I was able to go on by own. I did have alot of spasms during the night, the nurse brought me something to take & it worked. I don't remember the name though, it was a pink & white/grayish capsule. Have you asked him for any med's that might help? I would definitely ask for them! Some relief would be better than none. Hope you feel better!

Bladder spasms: looking for help!

I had all your things on the 12th & just got rid of my catherer on the 28th. It still seems hard to fully empty my bladder & sometimes I have to run water which helps me to get going also changing my sitting position...............don't know why it's so hard but figure things are still getting settled in there. I usually keep a book in the bathroom which helps me to relax while waiting. Hope this helps!

update

just talked to the urologist on call -- he says the spasms are probably good news (!) because it means maybe my bladder wants the catheter out...meanwhile, I should try taking benadryl, tylenol p.m. or sominex because they have an ingredient that calms bladder spasms (dipenhydramine)...he thought that would be better than a prescription drug to calm the spasms, because those drugs relax your bladder so much that it is hard to void -- don't want that because I want to get rid of the catheter, which means I want to void on my own! Will send my husband out for benadryl or one of the others when he gets home from grocery shopping. I should have called before he went so that he wouldn't have to make two trips...oh well, the man is a SAINT esp. about helping me through all this.
