DebbieMac: I'd suggest a new thread in post op w/something like "HRT in the 50's???' and see how fast you get a bunch of good advice from sisters out there who had surgery prior to our thread. I can't help. I'm 55 and while I have a lot of trouble sleeping, I was already post menopause so I can't help. I have noticed some 'flashing,' though, which I find fascinating, since I never had hotflashes in the past!

Good luck. I think a new post might net you a lot of advice! Good luck at the doc's appt! E

Hey Girls!

Yes, funny you should mention the bm's...that goes back to my point in explaining why I use the fleet suppositories...if I can tell I'm not gonna go first thing in morning I use one...that keeps you from having to feel like you have to go odd times throughout the day (me anyway)...I've always been one that if it doesn't happen in morning, before shower and cleaned up for day even if I'd feel like I had to I'd never go until the next morning and if it didn't happen then I'd wait again...no wonder I was always on the constipated side...but that is when I was on a regular work schedule...if we would go in early, sometimes we'd go in by 5:30am just to get out 8 hours in quicker and leave early...all 3 of us girls would complain (to eachother of course) how on those weeks we sometimes haven't gone since the last weekend...so that's how I got onto the suppositories, they are not addictive so to speak (bowels don't get dependent on them) and work on me like within 15 minutes and give you (me anyway) nooo funky gas pains with it! Soooo long story short, that's been my morning routine and I feel great all day long and no matter how busy/strenuous my day gets don't have the urge like I have to go and I've had no issues with swelly belly.....anyway.....

Oh and ~ the next day after (all the same day) swept, swam, and s*x...I felt no ill effects whatsoever...I figured I probably wouldn't...hey if that crazy metal thing the dr. uses didn't hurt why would that...but I've had no spotting anyway since the 1st 3 days home and have pushed things quite a bit and never spotted so didn't figure I would from that...YEAH feeling close to normal!!!

I had also bought a big bag of pads and wore one home from the hospital and one or two more til I saw I could go to a thin panty liner used a couple then nothing...I never really had red...just some smudgy brownish stuff...so who knows why some bleed more than others afterwards??? Tried to pawn them off on dd and she said ewww gross (queen of tampons, like mother like daughter) and keeps tossing the bag back in my room grrr! I haven't bought pads in many many moons and feel like I wasted money...think they'll return them for a box of tampons minus a couple LOL LOL...good thing they were just a bag of Wally World ones...no one we know uses pads so not sure what I'm gonna do with them...hate to just throw them out!

Even though I havn't been on posting everyday...I do get on and read what you all have to say DAILY and think of you all often!!! Love you all and this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rambled long enough...Take care and continued happy healing to all of us!!!!!!!!!

When I get the urge for a bm, I got to go now. Altough I may have to sit there for awhile for it to fully arrive. All my life I've alternated between constipation & diarhea. Then the 1st of this year it changed to all diarhea. Apparantly the gallstones. Had gall bladder removed in June, but dr said I'd probably be stuck with the diarhea. So while most of you girls were trying to go, I was trying to stop. And now when I get that look in my eye, my family knows to clear a path to the bathroom. :run3:

Debbie Mac

I just had to respond to your post. My dr. talked to me about estrogen and then after surgery she said well let's just see how you do and you can call if you have any problems. 3 weeks after surgery I had the same thing as you hot flashes, not sleeping I started taking the estrogen and still after 2 1/2 weeks I still was not sleeping and the hot flashes contiued. Went to the Dr. and she prescribed Lunesta and said to continue taking the estrogen. I was supposed to take it 21 days and then off 7 then back on but I am continuing to take them all the way through. Sometimes that can be the worst part, the no sleep and I would sleep with a frozen pack at night for the hot flashes. There is no way they can take out your ovaries and have your body NOT respond. Even when you are in menopause your ovaries kick off SOME hormone. Let us know how your dr. appt turns out. I really hope you get relief.

I'm alittle upset at my doctor because she told me that since I'm 52 I wouldn't have any problems with hormones. That didn't seem right when she told me and now it really doesn't. If any of you are around my age and had a tah and are having hormone problems, please let me know. Thanks for any help

Debbie Mac, I am 52 as well and I thought maybe I had gone through "the change" since I've had no periord since a trip to "sunny CA for thanksgiving." But... my period kicked in like everyone else week of surgery (must be the stress factor) Anyway I am very nervous of HRT because of the stroke & osteo in my family history. I 've had night sweats almost every night in last week & I am hoping to "ride it out!" I go in for post-op on monday & will see what my DR suggests. Thanks for the suggestion E about other threads re-HRT for us 50+ gals.

Hi all. It's been a week or so since I've posted anything so here's the update.
I, too, have had problems with hot flashes, insomnia, and unfortunately, horrible nightmares when I do fall asleep. My PCP, not my surgeon, has been a great source of information and help for me. The surgery forced my body into perimenopause, my hormones are off the wall which are causing most of my problems. He suggested, after reading the blood test results, monthly blood tests to monitor the hormone levels and wait at least three months for my body to adjust. He also prescribed Ambien to help me sleep at night. I took it for four nights, had some great nights and then last night I decided not to take it and today I am a walking zombie. The nightmares are really bad -- I haven't had a nightmare in ages -- Is anyone else experiencing this?
I have decided to take the Ambien and wait it out. Prior to my surgery, 7/9, I was taking Lo-estrin to control bleeding. So my poor body really went haywire when it was abruptly stopped.

Elefante --- You have been an inspiration --- I started walking on Saturday. I walked the track for one mile and yesterday did one and a half. It made me feel human. I've decided to take it slow, walk every other day and gradually increase my distance.

It's a beautiful day here in sunny 80ish degree, with no humidity Connecticut. Have a great one.

I am 5 weeks and a few days and I am still having pain. The pain is a little different it's deeper and pulling and twingy. I still have pain at the end of urination too. So I don't know if there was endo on my bladder and that's what is causing it. How are you doing? Pain?

abcd123:
I just went back to work afternoons this week. I work in an office. Today I'm not feeling that great, feel kind of warm.
I had my post-op appt. yesterday. I was surprised he did not exam me internally. Had TAH with cervix removed, kept ovaries.
I only hurt when I reach up too high or touch my abdomen. Other than that, I am doing very well. I was surprised at my whole recovery. Last week was the first time I had a brownish discharge when I wiped. I was told that was normal.
How are you?
