Gemini,
You are right. Way too much time on your hands. That is funny you should say that. I was wondering this morning, am I going to really wait the 4 wks. I still wear jammys. It is just day 5 and each day I try on a pants to see if my belly is going down. (norm size 10). Each day it does. When I first came home, my pants would'nt even zip. Each day since has been better. Today, they went all the way up. My bowels are working again too. Had the MOM on Sunday and couldn't stop. My visitors were clapping and screaming.
Now, that the BM is over and my pants look like they may fit one day boredom will be coming next. At least, I still hav u guys and the phone calls.
As for your ?: My last thought after I saw my family was, who are those random people in the hallway. It was a family waving to their loved one too. It must've been more than just my body going in an OR on the 12th. I also was looking forward to seeing the OR like I had in the past. I guess I shouldn't been bragging to the nurse that I am always awake till I get in the OR. Don't worry, Gem you will be fine. At least we will be healthy again.

WHEW...that was the worst yet!
Haven't yet had the mood swings, but am having alot of problems getting any sleep, well for more than two hrs at a time...even when I take an ambien. Any ideas for this one?
I've been doing some walking everyday...but not near as far as some as the other ladies, but i'll work myselfback up.
Talk to you soon.
lynn
Lynn, we had the same thing, same time and seem to be on about the same track. I take a darvocet before I go to bed so I can get sleep. Other than that I am taking Aleve. I had alot of pain with my 1st BM too. I think it's just all of the swelling.
I chose to do general anesthesia instead of a spinal so I was out for a bit. Dh said my surgery took about 30 minutes. I remember being in preop. I vaguely remember them putting gas on me and kept pulling my arms out (I kept pulling them back in), all I remember of recovery was them telling me they were taking me to my room. Dh says I was there about 2 hours. I know I was up trying to walk around 1:30 (surgery was at 9:30). 2 Days post surgery was my worst, it's been steadily getting better since then.

I have over 15 years in the Airforce... just about retired.. so I am glad this was all done before I got out.. I do all the body work sheet metal riveting advance composites and painting on all air craft that is assigned at what ever base I am at .. I work on the F22 right now very high profiled plane.. but hey its a job that is very physical.. up and down stands lifting tools sanding tools that weigh 5lbsand you can be sanding all day.. so its a busy job.. I wont be doing anything of the sort when I return to work. so I will be at a desk job which is fine with me .. I then have more healing time and its not as stressfull..

my post op recovery I was in for about 45min the operation was about 4 hours for me.. I left the hospital the next afternoon so it was all good and quick.. I am so glad there is a site like this so we can talk open and freely about what we go through .. it helps me out no one around me understands so its frusterating.. my Mr is so sweet he listens and cares.. so I have no worries telling him what I am going through.

Thanks for being there for me every one I hope I can help some one out with some of my answeres..

HI everyone! I had my hysterectomy on July 10. I was a wreck leading up to this day and I now know there are angels because 5 minutes before I had to leave for the hospital...my dog got sprayed by a skunk! In the house he went and off to the hospital my husband and I went, smelling like skunk and laughing all the way!

Surgery was almost 3 hours. Abdomen was attached to uterus-detach was quick, but I had adhesions which had pretty much invaded / engulfed my bladder, which took longer to free. Uterus and cervix are out. Ovaries are in. I had some issues with gas pain and nurses in the hospital too! And I too saw that this one nurse was going to be mine again and begged my doc to release me. Came home July 13 and am glad to be home. Pain is manageable so far. Walking around on and off to try and help regulate a slow bowel. Really tired though. My husband did as much as he could reagrding the skunk stench and I can still smell a whiff here and there.
I am tired and will post any updates later on.

Welcome home MoonFlower67!

It's good to know you are home. The constipation can be unnerving. They say, 'eat normally'.......yeah, and then all that food is goin' in and nothing is comin' out! I did not have to use the milk of magnesia.........a neighbor brought me the colace and i ate tons of metamucil wafers and tons of brown rice/beans/salads/etc. It still took me five days to produce the first bm........and a nurse who called warned me it could still take more time after that to get 'normal'... so I kept up w/the high fiber diet, lots of little walks, 16 oz. of water for every 1/2 mi. I walked, and nightly stool softening agent (colace I think it's called?). Now I am very fine and it is one week/one day since my hysterectomy. Getting regular is one hard thing to deal w/. Urinating can also be strange. I'm still not 'normal' but learning to deal w/it. Last night was first night I did not do a pain med pill. Those can constipate, too.

Best of luck to you and again, welcome to your home, both your 'real home' and your hystersisters home. E.

Thanks! this is such a great website ! Funny about the bowel thing. I've been afraid I'd pop a staple or damage my v-cuff--you know intestines fall out and all that good stuff if I went. I've had a bowel movement but I think I'm afraid of them right now. Just writing /saying that sounds silly. Yes.. I agree. Colace is good stuff. I used it during my pregnancies too. I am also taking Fiber Con tabs and having Fiber One with my cereal. Water too! I'm not all that hungry and am forcing myself to eat! My bladder is weird too. I am taking something to help with that. Doc says there was alot of trauma to the bladder and that I may have a funny pee feel for a bit.

Thank you for my welcome home--for you too!

Had LAVH 7/13, went well. Got my doctor to let me go by 5:30 that evening! So was only in hospital about 10 hours. Was up and walking with 30 minutes of getting to my room..had the nurse take out the cathater immediately. No pain meds other than motrin. So four days post op, feel pretty good. Walking every day, several times. I guess my biggest fear is that it's going way too easy, and it's going to come up and slap me in the face! LOL It is hard not to do "anything" but I certainly don't want to end up back in the hospital so am trying extra hard. Have not had the awful fatigue yet that some have. So keeping my fingers crossed!

WOW. Amazing, trixieelaine. I need your strength/stamina/magic. Congrats on what is going as an easy recovery right now. I had TVH and I know darn well that I am not 'okay' to do everything I want to do. I'm even abiding by the no driving for two weeks rule (one more week to go, yahoo)..... I'm the type who does break the rules and it DOES come back to slap me in the body. I pray everything continues going well for you.

Hey Sisters,
Well I don't know if anyone else had the experience of walking into their own operating room! I said bye to my hubby and My Anesthesiologist took me by the hand and we walked together down a corridor..I figured we were going to another pre-op room but Nope...we walked together into a big O.R. with the table there in the middle and about 13/14 people (I'm assuming residents/interns/students...I was at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC) Had to remove the gown that closed in the front....of course exposing my bottom to half the room when I got onto my own O.R. Table! Then a nurse or whatever called me Ellen (my name is Eileen) and I looked at the Anestheisiologist with panic face and asked him to make sure I was in the right room! He laughed and corrected her making her say Eileen. OK...so then one arm out to the right on a slab the other to the left and anesth. guy says..."OK you've probably had enough of this lets get you comfy" My Dr yells wait and minute and wants to introduce me to his partner....I said Nice to meet you to the person with the mask next to the dr... and the next thing I knew some wonderful nurse in Recovery was stroking my arm telling me I was fine and doing very well. Surgery took about 2 1/2 hours and recovery room was very quick...then up to my room. All in All a little crazy...but it was fine. Love my Dr. and the anesthesia guy was awesome..kind trusting face and even better I wasn't sick...which is a miracle...I get motion sick in a rowboat! Don't even like elevators.... So I'm very grateful.
Moonflower (Jennifer) I loved your story....gotta laugh that's for sure. Hope you're feeling better and rest as much as you can. I took MOM and sipped the Ginger ale with teabag (heat it all in the micro) remedy and that worked for me. I'm from Jersey but had the surgery in NYC...wasn't comforable with few Drs. I saw before all this in NJ...so found my guy on the Web...crazy but God was watching over and this was a great experience!

By the way I'm a Secretary in a school (10 month job) so I'm off in the summer so that's why I did this now. Hoping to feel good enough for vacation in a few weeks down in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
