OUCH re: tooth! Wow. I've read stuff like that can happen during surgery. You SHOULD have had the grill in...lol. No, CaptainCrunch educated me on the gas pain stuff....seems like when I 'ouch' around my body, be it tummy area or back shoulder blades or legs, etc. it could be gas pains. I 'only' had TVH and have no experience at all w/surgery and general anesthesia, so I'm a total beginner in this area. I never had to take bowel prep meds.... and let me say that prepping for a colonoscopy just this past April....I never had pains like after the hysterectomy. I remember no pain at all. Just total dehydration and drinking and drinking afterwards and never urinating. My cells were crying for liquids!

Nice to have a sweet deck to sun on, you! I'm envious. Now you've got to get that tooth taken care of.......if there weren't enough stress, eh? Thanks for writing.

My pre-op instruction sheet said to purchase and use a Fleet Phosph-Soda so I drank 1 Tbsp with 8 oz of water and sat around all night waiting for something to happen - but it really didn't. The next day at the palace before surgery they didn't even ask.

What was sort of funny was that I was having these horrible gas pains the day after surgery and was waiting to pass gas so I could start a regular diet. Finally I did it and I was so excited. When I heard someone come in the hospital room on the other side of the curtain and rustle around the nurse's chart I said, "Hey! I did it!" The still unseen person said, 'You did something for the nurse?" I joyfully said, "Yes! I passed gas!" Then this lady stuck her head around the curtain and said, "Well, that's great, hon, but we're here measuring for a new shelf for this wall." LOL! All of this talk of gas today reminded me.

I do think gas pains are still the worst pain of my experience so far. They feel like they might not ever stop - and then they're just gone.

You all sleep well.

Thanks for the GREAT laugh.........i'm still laughing at your hospital story, hurrydog. And I laughed a bit at the waiting and nothing happened part, too. I remember my doc ordering two ducolax Tuesday July 10 and I still didn't 'move' anything until Friday the 13th!

You have a good night, too! E

I had my surgery on July 9 (TAH/BSO and they also found that I had a bad case of endometriosis with my uterus attached to my bladder, sigmoid colon and rectum. There was also trouble waking me up after the anethesia. I was kept in the hospital until the afternoon of July 16......with a walker. I was unable to eat solid food ...or even much liquid for 4 days...then was switched to creamy liquids and then soft bland. Finally had solid food a week after my surgery. I also have fibromyalgia and the dr feels that is what impeded my being able to walk without support. The dr and nurses were wonderful....and kept me as pain free as possible....first with Mopphine and Toradol...then later to Vicodin and Motrin 800 mg. (Motrin then had to be stopped due to rise in my creatin levels...kinda scared the dr.) and I am now home and on 1-2 Vicodin every 4 hours, Flexeril (1/2 tab every 8 hours), Colase, and Zofran (for nausea). I think I am doing well,,,,walkin as much as I can tolerate and getting stronger feeling every day.
This is my first time back at the puter since my surgery. Taking baby steps and really happy that I had the surgery..dr says he is 95% sure that the endometriosis was the cause of all my pain!!
Good luck to all.

The pain from the CO2 was quite interesting to endure I must say.

I do have a question for those of you who have gone before me. Whenever I go to the bathroom because I feel like I need to have a BM, it feels like everything has to "let down", and this is quite uncomfortable sending sharp pains into the vagina. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or not?

Thanks so much for those who post, this site was a tremendous help both prior to and post op.
You know, I was wondering sort of the same thing. When I sit down on the toilet, I get this feeling like I can feel the urine run through the lines til it comes out. I know that might sound silly, but that is the best way I can describe this feeling I get most of the time I go to urinate.
Maybe someone can answer your question or fill us in with a little info on the subject. Thanks for bringing up the subject! Take care and good luck with your recovery.

Elefante ~ are you saying there is a possible link between unhealed/raw parts of body and exposure to tanning beds and Lopus? I thought Lopus was a lung disorder?
Yes ma'am, I had the bowel prep. I wasn't crazy about it but it really wasn't that bad as long as you stayed close to an available toilet til your system got emptied. Then after surgery, I think it kind of helped for things to sort of flow out which kept one from having to bear down. After a few days of eating, BMs are getting back to normal.....that is slowly but surely.
I think walking helps, too. As someone said earlier....water and walk...and of course some fiber.....big help for the BM!

I do know what you mean about the urine. Except after the flow through there is pain for me at the end. Sometimes it hurts enough to hold my breath.

BOY I wish I could laugh like that. I miss the feeling I get when I belly laugh. My husband is very funny and has a great sense of humor. He used to do comedy and go to different clubs for quite a few years while we dated. He is still funny.

I have been able to hold off sneezes and today I lost one. Wow did that hurt.

When I go potty, it is more like uncomfortable than painful most of the time, but I deal with it. Glad to be done when I am....but I am thinking it is getting better. Time is helping.
You bet those sneezes can hurt! I laughed hard when I read what the one lady wrote about passing gas and it not being a nurse on the other side of the curtain. LOL
Maybe your hubby can surprise you with your own personal comedy show.....just to get you laughing again.
You take care now,
Nora
