Well I did not wake up for about 13 hours after surgery...had a morphine pump which I had for all of 1/2 a day because everytime I pushed the button I went to sleep for about six hours...I thought that was a great thing but somehow the doctor did not...but all joking aside my blood pressure went way way low...like 55/35 (I think I put them in the right order) anyway don't remember too much for the first couple of days but then I was soooo ready to get out of the room...I think I freaked the nurses out...I went walking every couple of hours till about 3 in the morning because I am a night owl. I ended up getting my cath put back in for a day because I drank myself silly on apple juice and water and just could not pee but happily that is all done now...hallalua

I couldn't much tell what the room looked like cause I had to leave my glasses with DH in preop. Can't see a thing without them or my contacts. I can't even identify the nurses and drs. Lucky them. They could say they weren't there and I'd have to take their word for it! LOL

so you all remember the operating room???!!!

This is what is so humiliating for me. So many, SO many of you remember going to surgery. They put me out right away in the room where i changed my clothes for the 'pre op' prep. Why did they do that? Did I just have a mean anesthsiologist who didn't want to hear my story of my little aunt getting too much anesthesia or ????? Why, why? Why didn't they wait until I was in the OR? I'm sure they had to move me around a lot. And so I think my arms were probably damaged as they tried to lift my big (well, 125 pounds and hooked up to an iv and everything else) body around from this table to the next to this place to that. I feel sad inside about it. It's like all my dignity got taken away from me. And i got damaged elbows to boot.

It didn't rain / isn't going to rain. Twelfth driest summer on record since the 1880's (yes, 18, not 1980's).... sad. Farmers by the dozens are losing their crops up here.

Well, two more laps to do later tonite. I have procrastinated the entire day not working on the freshman (freshwoman) English class. I'm a total slug. I tried, too, to get interested in listening to music again when i drive but no luck w/it!

Okay. Gonna go. I posted a funny post on the regular surg progress about when i went grocery shopping today. Maybe some of you will see it under our regular post op recovery discussions........... E

Yeah, I remember that room too. I remember someone saying we have to move her to the other table and all of a sudden I was in the recovery room waking up with terrible cramps. They were so nice giving me something and asking if it was helping.
I also remember seeing my anestesiologist while I was in the room before the operating room and he was a very funny guy. He had two other young guys working with him. They looked like they were in their early 20's, maybe just interns. I did go to a teaching hospital. I remember they couldn't get the iv in me (it is very difficult and I told them that), so the anestesiologist in charge had to do it. It was difficult for him too, but he finally got it.
I felt so old when I was in the hospital, because most of the nurses looked in their early 20's and even two of the doctors that saw me (my doctor was not on call that weekend, but he was nice enough to come in on Saturday to see me.)
It's funny because my 20 year old daughter is going into medicine and she is only 4 ft 11 1/2 in. and looks so young. I'm sure she is going to get the same reaction from people when she is a doctor.

I never heard Wal Mart referred to as Wally World. That's a funny one. I too was thinking of that Chevy Chase movie where the family went to that amusement park.

They probably looked at all 175 lbs of me and decided they didn't want the back pain. And no one warned me before they turned the lights out. They didn't on the last surgery either. Maybe they do that to keep you from backing out at the last second.
They put my IV in when I got to preop.

I think they started the IV while I was in that room too. I was only in the operating room a minute and I heard them say that they were moving me onto the other table, but I went out before I even got moved because I don't even remember getting moved to the other table.
I'm sorry for your experience.
I got a call from the hospital today about taking part in a survey and I said yes. Most of it was just answering questions yes, no, sometimes, always etc. But there was a part where I could answer so I mentioned to them my bad experience my first day when no one had me up to sit on a chair or walk and when I asked about it at 4:00 a.m. in the morning I was told that my nurse the day before should have had me up. And then I had to ask why the woman next to me got this thing that she had to check her lung capacity with (suck in her air) and why I didn't get one and I was told I should have had one of those too. I was so glad that I had gotten a book from a bookstore and read up on what to expect, plus this website too.

E ~ I've always kinda thought it odd that I helped scooch myself to that hard board of a bed ~ reminded of the ones the lifeguards on Bay Watch carry people out onto the beach with LOL I thought to myself, this isn't going to be very comfortable LOL...If you really think about it though, they had to somehow get all of us back to our recovery beds too...if that's any consoltation to ya...that is crazy though that your elbows are that bruised...hmmmmm do you normally bruise easily??? I can't really say that I would feel slighted not witnessing the OR, at that point they could have knocked me out anywhere/anytime cause I was getting so anxious but would definately be questioning all the bruising...did you feel sore/bruised anywhere else...I can't even tell where my IV was...when was the first you noticed this????

Mmmm having my supper as I type LOL, BBQ ribs, baked potato w/sourcream, butter, fresh chives, and steamed brocolli w/butter it's pretty dang ummmmmy all!

Hello, Sisters. I am in extreme shock right now; a bridge over the Mississippi River just collapsed here in Minneapolis. My daughter and granddaughter drive it each day; they are usually on it the time it collapsed and today they were on it 1.5 hours before it collapsed. I will try to 'chill' but it's hard..................hard, hard, day. You all have a good evening. E.
